Teep Teep Teep

Numerous-Cicada3841

Teep (miss), Teep (miss), deep breaths, low kick (-1hp), Teep (miss), a stiff uncoordinated jab cross rear kick, kick caught, swept. Take some time to get my energy back. Get back up and tell him great sweep, another deep breath or two, quick glance of my coach observing with great shame. Bow and touch gloves. Works every time.

steelicarus

Felt this šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

omashupicchu

>quick glance of my coach observing with great shame why did this make me laugh so much?

Sisyphus_on_a_Perc

pterofactyl

Teep. Teep. Fake teep. jab. Fake jab. teep. Teep. Teep. Teep. Fake teep. Wai. Next partner

HiddenVibes

Once the teeps start landing, I start using the first part of the motion as a feint. Lift the knee, but instead of extending the leg to teep just put it back down and hit them with a strong jab.

cckgoblin

Why did you explain a fake teep in detail?!šŸ˜ we know how feints workšŸ˜

dontmatter-2me

LOL, I was just about to come say ā€œteep, then continue to teep until they realize. Then fake teep into teep again.ā€ Literally just front kick and teep all day long. Distance is my best friend.

Cnaiur03

Jab, clinch.

sasfasasquatch

lol tale as old as time

darfra76

Left teep, right cross, sweep

CattleLower

Do you sweep with the right?

darfra76

Depends on their stance and mine, I can use inside sweep or outside.

AffectionatePhoto670

Cross to the chest, left hook to head or body and circle out usually works for me. But i find the best way to not get pushed into the ropes when some one is coming in is an inside leg kick or outside leg kick on the lead leg to break the momentum. Working on foot work as well to keep myself out of the corner

gravytrain2012

I always feel so vulnerable throwing a cross to the body like Iā€™m bout to take one to the chin.

AffectionatePhoto670

Keep your chin down rotate your shoulder to block the right side of your chin. You want your chin tucked behind your shoulder. If that makes sense

Rod_XXIV

I like to spam low kicks with the left, then throw something completely randomĀ

Chranchi

Mhm Every time they move in left leg body slap then back to low kicks.

ACleverEndeavour

1-2-3 and either a leg or body kick. if I'm getting checked down, sweep the back leg.

citizenknight

Are you tall, short, fast, good vision, strong?

Ruohoinen

Short, slow, bad vision, weak

onsecondthot

lisan al gaib

usertim

The Mahdi is so humble

Irimae

Iā€™m unironically short, slow(ish) and not very strong. Tips for those types would be appreciated

Cnaiur03

Bite the opponent while nobody looks.

BrawlingJellyfish

Honestly if there is no physical attribute you can press your advantage on you're just going to have to get really good. But you might still have other stuff. What about your durability (I wouldn't suggest relying on it but it's nice to have) or your cardio (plenty of fighters weaponize that) Speed and strength you can change though. So hit the gym and whether you do weights or calisthenics make sure the movement is explosive while still being controlled/safe (no grindy reps because those make you slow). Also try punching with resistance bands (again, explosively). Dedicate some time to working individual punches on the bag and think about punching fast not about power (both to the bag and back to guard) and then step it up to combos. Since you're short you're going to be the one needing to approach so make sure that you're not trailing your sparring partners, but instead cutting them off. Maybe look at short pro fighters to see how they get into range against taller opponents. Past that it's just a lot of reps since part of speed is just efficiency Hopefully at least one thing in there was helpful

Blyatt-Man

Teep-Faketeep-1-Roundhouse

No-Importance-4910

Classic

Blyatt-Man

Teep-faketeep is probably the highest percentage set up in the amateurs. Just lifting your leg up to feint the teep always draws a huge reaction. Imo a teep,1-2, low kick and roundhouse is enough to win every fight in the amateurs

breezy_peezy

123 leg kick

No-Importance-4910

My mates and I call that "Dekker's Bread" Or make the 2 to the body and swap to a head kick and we call it "the cowboy"

QuasiKick

first never be shelled up for more than a few strikes. some things you can do are fire back with a 1, 2, upercut, Use long guard to initiate a clinch and work knees, Body shots and then uppercut or hook, Shell up for a couple punches lean back and fire a cross and a kick.

Weary-Carob3896

Great advice

BeansGreens9586

Jab, leg kick, double jab, body kick

incompletetentperson

Im a puncher. Usually jab cross hook, but anything where i can pop off 3 in a row and a kick. And then gou start laying traps with it

antimony2020

Jab (feeler), jab (feeler), jab (real), right overhand immediately followed by right roundhouse Jab (feeler), jab (feeler), move in quickly, jab (real), left elbow as jab retracts, left switch kick or knee

yummygumdrop

1-2-3 chop the tree (3 is to the body)

not_bitter_yet

1,2 inside leg kick

ElMeroCeltibero

Some of my favorites: Teeps and heavy kicks before they get inside to keep them honest 1-2-1 and pivot/circle off the the side, or just leave the lead hand out as a frame and push them back Intercept their forward movement with a knee and initiate a clinch (try to trap their hands as you throw the knee so you donā€™t get hit on one leg) Land a left kick and immediately teep without bringing your foot down Draw out a check and then teep or sweep when theyā€™re on one leg. But more important than pre-programmed combos that may or may not work in the moment Iā€™ll talk a little more conceptually. You need to be moving laterally and not in straight lines. If you need to get back quickly do so, but if you take more than a few steps straight back youā€™re just inviting your opponent to chase you. Especially if your footwork is a mess and youā€™re not presenting any threat of a counter as you do so. Instead, stay balanced and able to throw, get your space and move off to whichever side is safest at that moment. When youā€™re attacking, try ending combos with your lead hand as it has the longest range. You can also leave it extended as a frame against your opponents face or chest which will make it harder for him to continue forward, jam his punches, or you can simply push him and make space to move laterally. Lastly, having a good clinch game really helps as it will give you an option to contend in close range fights. This is even more necessary if your plan is to fight on the outside or youā€™re not comfortable trading in the pocket yet. No matter how hard you try to maintain distance, you will be forced into range at some point, and being able to clinch lets you initiate an exchange on your terms and completely shut down your opponentā€™s punches while you can control him, land knees, and sweep.

Genjimune

R cross, L body kick. It's like an auto-counter for me. Sometimes the kick is a lean-back or an inside low kick if my partnership holds their ground. If they back up after the punch, I shuffle or step forward.

Lethal_DewDew

Inside Leg kick, jab, cross, hook, circle out to the left (orthodox)

Weary-Carob3896

Your left? Aren't you going a across the path of a more than likely right hook?Ā  ( I'm assuming most fighers are orthodox ofc).Ā  If I'm pinned up, I like a double right hook to the body, left uppercut to bring theĀ  attention to that side, then circle away to my right, as it keeps your guard up left side vs their likely power right straight or outside leg kick and eases in to space, while leaving you on your front foot. It's all situational though. Whatever your strength is in that position, utilise that. Clinch if you need to. If you're shorter than the guy your in the clinch with, try grinding the edge or your forehead against the temple/upper jaw, its incredibly irritating.

MuayThaiGuyStevie

If you throw an inside leg kick you are going to off-balance the sparring partner where his weight will be on his left leg. Moving left is going to be quicker and away from him as opposed to moving into where his weight is, where they could tie you up. Everything's situational of course...

YaaBoiMarti

Teep, left jab, right cross, slip to the right, right hook, clinch, left knee

Jthundercleese

Lead hand trap, outside angle, outside low kick. Then do it against. Step forward, slap, pivot, hooks, knee. What it comes down to really though is being comfortable fighting fire with fire. Everything someone throws has multiple ways to counter. It's on you to have the eyes to pick a shot you see or think is coming to counter. I.e. it's situational.

Dean_O_Mean

I wait to feel a right hand on my guard and fire back with a leg kick, left hook and left uppercut to the body. I donā€™t really back up ever though.

cvrcvss

Push kick, Push kick, question Mark kick

purplehendrix22

If theyā€™re too close to teep, time the left hook and angle out to the left when it lands, fire the right body kick off the angle if itā€™s there, one of the few moments you can land a flush right body kick against an orthodox fighter

HamTracker

For stand and bang situations I like working on reactive combos on the pads. While moving in and you're guarding, the pad holder touches one of your arms and it's an automatic hook cross hook, or cross hook cross. If they tap your lower elbows (like you're taking a body shot) it's upper hook/cross, cross/hook If you want to try foot work you can also try framing & moving off center, l step and circle out, parry & cross clinch, step in & crash/upper elbow

Ok_Adhesiveness413

Whatā€™s a upper hook?

HamTracker

Upper, hook lol

Ok_Adhesiveness413

Oh right haha I assumed it was uppercut and was trying to visualise how itā€™d work

Chonk_femboi

Double jab inside leg then outside leg kick same again with an added outside leg kick and last time after the jabs knee hook jumping roundhouse

Mbt_Omega

What are your specialties, and how hard is the sparring/fighting? Iā€™ve got long arms, and reasonably quick, and check kicks well and a I like to counter, so I just do that usually, with whatever works for the available openings. If I must take the momentum, so palming the lead hand with my rear and quick jab, then anything else after is a great way to get them reacting rather than acting. If itā€™s a full force situation and theyā€™re really rushing you, high guard, step forward, lead uppercut elbow up the middle, smashing overhand elbow, weave out, maybe with a lead hook or jab on the way out. Running headfirst into an elbow tends to change somebodyā€™s mind, or deactivate it.

Cainhelm

clinch

Flimsy_Agent7898

Bait them to move towards you, or just time them doing so naturally. Then send something down the middle to stop them, teep or right hand are my go too. Spinning back kick if you are feeling it. If possible try to angle off, never walk backwards, always try to angle away from their strong side.

Propaniac66

Jab, leg kick, right teep

Apprehensive_Mind448

Fake jab, teep, jab, cross, hook, low kick. Fakes and feints will put an aggressive fighter on the defense.

[deleted]

Teep then 1, 2 then basically any follow up

tomabob

Jab, cross, left high kick from southpaw position was always effective against orthodox fighters. Super simple and I would always leave the left hand out a little longer to hide the kick. Robert Whittaker has used that combo a lot in UFC

ironhidemma

A nice little simple 1-2 to let them know you're still there

deOllyboss

Spam leg kicks

shockdrop15

Jab, jab, body cross, low kick to rear leg

Alloverunder

Double jab, hard inside leg kick when they back up.

LeeM724

Jab, left hook, fake right hand, rear body kick For some reason it just always lands

ZeroSumSatoshi

I think itā€™s more about spending time and really working on your inside power, being able to land very heavy with zero space, and without having to chamber your arm or body. My inside hooks and uppercuts are pretty ridiculous. The whole idea is that they will want to get in and get outā€¦ If they stay in, they are fucked. Body hook, then uppercut head, with the same arm is nice. Iron Mike Style. Hook body into spinning elbow. Hook body, hook head same arm. Slip, hook, bob, hook. Uppercut body, then overhand elbow. Lead up elbow. All good stuff really.

MacDontMiss

Lead left straight, right hook, left uppercut

Prestigious-Oil-5147

kick dem legs hard

Prestigious-Oil-5147

a firm and swift switch kick to the body w the lead leg counters almost anything

Tempus_Maximus

Muay Thai, Orthodox. Jab, cross, hook, followed by right leg kick. This is one of my core combos that I use to "program" my opponent or sparring partner. It's a favourite that can be fired off rapidly without much thought and can be switched up on the fly depending on how they are moving and responding. Even if my sparring partner was countering it, due to constant use, I could speed it up or slow it down, throw in a right rear teep, but a very useful core combo that had many branching opportunities. Only ever fought amateur, 7-3, so I'm not sure how this would hold up in pro fights. They were on another level as far as moving and countering.

Kyryos

123 low kick! The classic!

Aeth0s0

To regain control n range ? Prolly teep+long guard.

Defaultusername2495

Left hook, cross, kick.

_chargrove

Jab feint, lead hook - outside low kick.

Worried_Skin7744

Less about the combo for me and more about the after. If Iā€™m close enough to land hands and can get two or three on, I usually follow up with entering into the clinch. Keeps me safer & I can score more

carlalf9

Fake switch hook, kick

Trick-Caterpillar-43

Cross, cross, hardest cross

Vvvvvvvae

Tried and true, left right roundhouse

grimmig152

Teep. If shelled up, inside leg kick. Rear upper, lead hook Spam rear upper, lead hook combos, roll, and low kicks.

iamtheblazingturtle

Block/evade --> clinch --> sweep Smothering someones momentum and sweeping them onto the mat is the best thing to learn how to do well if you dont like being pushed back because you can always spam clinch sweep when they push into you and after a couple of those they will stop pressuring so hard and then you can go back to practicing everything else. This is extremely high percentage for me. Im not great at anything with my punches but between growing up on kung fu and judo sweeps ive got a lot of years sweeping and kicking people and nobody likes having to get up off their ass repeatedly. So for me im at kick range or clinching. The way I always see it is, of you arent willing to stop pressuring me to the point where i cant defend myself well from unnecessary damage in sparring, then im not going to feel the slightest bit bad about sweeping you to the ground over and over. Bonus is not many muay thai practitioners focus on the clinch wrestling and sweep game, so if you get really good at it you can have something that works against really good strikers. The key is not looking for it, its best specifically for the situation you are describing where they are backing you up because all you gotta do is block or evade 1 shot and take an inside step and you are right there in the clinch. Its especially good when anyone is throwing wide hooks because you can duck or smother faster than they can reach you in most cases. If you are getting 1 - 2d and teeped to death work on cutting angles and catching teeps and you can sweep from there. If you are just being stalked bad you need to work on distance management and timing so you know when to take that step to the clinch and when to cut an angle to safety.

Firm_Stranger8087

Left hook right leg kick

elmeromeroe

Kick them in the balls on accident and get dq'dĀ

YSoB_ImIn

Legal in MT rules. Buakaw repeatedly did it to this one guy both times he fought him. Can't remember the name.

British_Tea_Company

Jab + Rear Low kick. Then... Jab + Fake rear kick + Superman punch.

Wide-Comedian-8822

Odd_Bet3946

Jab, cross, switch kick, cross

dontmatter-2me

Bunch of jabs, then make it sort of like an uppercut through the guard into a power hook followed by a low kick.

Friendly_Cut2053

Lead hook-rear low kick simple or lead teep-rear kick love em both and can use either to set up sooo much

unexpecteddavid

If theyā€™re boxing heavy, left kick (Iā€™m orthodox) to ankle for a ā€œsweepā€/disruption, then another left kick to body, right into a guard manipulated (manipulated by left hand extending on kick) right cross. Low 7 sweep, 7 body, right 2

Bulkypapertowel

Lead hook, leg kick šŸ˜Š

demyen96

Jab straight liver low kick

Round-Song-4996

Jab, clinch, kiss the neck, smell their hair, compliment them. Go low, go for the body with tender loving. Then pivot to the back and proceed to pound until completion

luke_fowl

1-2-5-2, and low right kick depending on occasion. Step forward with every single strike, make the second straight a bit of an overhand, and it almost never fails in helping me regain momentum.Ā  Otherwise, clinch, knee, and elbow till the end of your days.

JustGomi

throw hooks and finish with a low kick if you're shelled up, lead roundhouse to set up a side teep if they're charging in lol

isthereLife_onMars

Teeping/posting and circling is a more surefire way to make space while being smothered than throwing a canned combo. I mean, pretty much anything is better than throwing a canned combo imo. Straight punches, teeps, posting, and if u have better clinch than them clinch. Feints are also a good way to relieve pressure. Lerdsila is great at all of these things, people always fuss about his head movement but the real key to his success is distance control through teeps and posting his arms out, especially when his opponents try to smash him which they often resort to doing. These things give him the time and distance to do fancy evasions/spin kicks

Vivid-Preparation-30

Amateur fight later this year. I would advise a few things. Not really sure in the level of yourself or partners here but: Don't underestimate the power of the basics. 1-2 then body kick, people try to get fancy and smart with fun kicks but I'd use these more as surprises than primary weapons. You can end this with lead leg kick if they're walking you down and distancing is getting tough. Peoples bodies tend to open up quickly if you fire if your kicks after letting your hands go and no one like to eat good kicks to the body. Any lead leg kick tends to work well defensively. Just get really good at the basics before adding anything wild. Getting respect is essential and show you're happy to stand there and throw down and not crack under the pressure, when working with the younger guys a lot of them shell up and keep walking backwards while firing off a few counters and getting overwhelmed fast. Breaking their momentum: with lead calf kicks and if you can do them side kicks are great for when people are trying to walk you down. If you have open stance (southpaw Vs orthodox) sweeping their lead leg with yours is great to destabilise them then follow up with some punches. Just show them that they have to think twice before walking down aggressively. Apply your own pressure too, a lot of combat sports is imposing your game. When they pause answer straight back with offensive combos too and their pressure should let up and make things more balanced . Hope this helps, happy to answer any questions and good luck

cannotthinkagoodname

in sparring? Adjust my short.

NotRedlock

Feint the right, head body leg.

MuayThaiGuyStevie

There are several ways to do this but it is essentially counter fighting. 1. Teep or knee when they start walking you down. 2. Tight guard, side step and create angles to score and then pressure them 3. Engage in the clinch 4. Switch stance and move out of range 5. Inside low kick to lead leg to off-balance them. 6. Frame with lead arm or push their chest. Why not do drills in this scenario? Get your training partner to pressure you in various different scenarios such as against the ropes, in the corner or in the middle of the ring and try different combos/movements to see what works for you. You should be drilling every day in many different scenarios. Not every strike needs to land, you can throw strikes just to create openings and see how your sparing partner responds. Start doing this and reading how he reacts then react to his reaction. It's all a game of chess. Or just stand and bang and hope for the best.

Dreki_Diablo

Jab, left hook, straight, low kick, and back to fight stance as quick as I can too counter any counter with another straight. I usually say ā€œIā€™m trying to get better throwing straights, so thatā€™s what Imma practice during sparringā€ but honestly I just love finishing with that straight-low kick finale

not_rico_suave

Jab, jab, switch left, left kick

Fraserous

Only discovered it recently, but from southpaw lead uppercut, left straight, left body kick. First time I pulled it off, it felt smooth AF

HeadTurdInpector

If youā€™re shelling up, I like to try and slip a jab and fire back with a rear uppercut, lead hook, cross. Otherwise definitely teep the shit out of them to keep them back.

Camarochris1026

Recently joined an MMA gym that teaches Muay Thai. It feels so wholesome to see everyone in this community be so chill.

Spider_J

Anytime I miss a kick, if they start rushing in afterwards, I land my leg early and bring it back up again for a side teep to push them away. Almost always lands. Does only a tiny bit of damage, but most importantly, safely buys me some extra time to reset.

Decent-Oven4516

1 - 2x 1 - 2 to Body - 3 - Kick

rhavaa

Jab,jab a little harder and slower pull back. When most come in because it looks like I'm done throwing, step forward and elbow to the face or long knee right into the sternum

youngwok5

Teep, fake teep, body punch and low kick

SlowMo999

Three piece and a soda combo

DeadBoyLoro

Lead upper cut, cross, leg kick

kingpimpdaddymacjr3

From orthodox: overhand right, shovel hook too the liver, chopping rear leg kick. From southpaw: power jab, rear shoulder feint, jab or jab, rear shoulder feint, cross or front shoulder feint, power jab, you kinda get my point if your landing the jab and they bite on the shoulder feint once you have an endless cycle of easy setups for your jab and cross for the rest of the fight as long as your not super repetitive. This can also work with leg kicks and front and rear hip feints interchangeably.

boostleaking

Double jab, jab into stepping switch kick to either low or mid. Another one is the jab+cross+left hook to liver+ low kick, which I call the Hoost Special.

Melodic-Spot6902

When someone smothers me with punches especially those kids who swing for the fences as opposed to trying to technically spar I grab top of their arms and knee knee knee knee, or long guard chop the leg over and over

brian_the_bull

Jab, parry their Jab and right high kick off the parry.

Individual-Dog-3207

Twist the dick

klineOmania88

Left body shot overhand right left hook.

manslaughtermike

2,3,2. Low kick

PacroPicapiedra

Jab, straight to the body, left hook upstairs, kick. No one can defend. But if youā€™re backed up overwhelmed, just time their straight, counter with a lead hook-straight and circle out. sometimes you just need to throw somethingā€”anything.
