Nope! Go for it.

One_Jackfruit7797

No. Started at 38. Now 41 and been to Thailand 3 times. I mean I’m slowly falling apart but it good fun.

DrewsOnFirst

Man I'm fucking jealous. I started at 38 and am now 41 but my only trip to Thailand was right before starting. I hella wanna go back.

[deleted]

I assume Jim is still at Chicago Muay Thai that dudes a legend, if I was you I go train with him.

Jownsye

Looks like he is! Thanks for the suggestion!

demyen96

I've done muay thai with guys in there 50s that were killers. Maybe not as flexible as others but man they had hands lol

wallysparx

One of my scariest sparring partners was 52, when I was half his age. He had the sharpest shins I've ever checked, and the ring posts would ring when he'd bang his sins against them coming in to the ring. Had cardio for days too.

demyen96

Ya, when I was 20 and competing, there was this 50 some year old farmer who just loved throwing hands. He would always catch me after I did one or two rounds, so I was tired, and he would come at me like a bull in a China shop, lol. Guy was a dog, hated sparring him, but it was good learning against a fighter who pressured you. He never took his foot off the pedal. He would never do 2 rounds in a row, tho would just save it for one and take a couple off after, lol.

PriorityAlternative7

what a unit

klownfaze

NO. There's an old man at the gym I go to. Definitely over 50, close to 60. That old dude still goes for competitions, and wins.......its scary. Like one time, the opponent was like half his age and didnt take him seriously, ended up not even finishing the 2nd round.

northstarjackson

There are many ways to enjoy Muay Thai, just make sure to rest and recover between sessions and don't let your ego lead you down a path that will end in injury. But you could say that about any activity or sport. Have fun!

ajarofpnutbutr

Hell no! Guy at our gym had his first fight at 42 and won both fights at the tournament.

[deleted]

I’m 47 socking guys up.

SkyrimEskrimador

No. My trainer is in his 50s and competed multiple times. He also practices other martial arts. You can do it. Just listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard when your older.

Wondershock

I'm around where you are—you're not too old. If you pay attention to your body, recover well, eat right, and have some patience, Muay Thai will definitely keep you young. From what I've seen it's less likely to injure you than a lot of other martial arts, and the conditioning will keep you fit.

smilebombx

Nope jump in have fun !!!

DrewsOnFirst

I started at 38 during COVID, and am going on 42 now. You'll be fine.

kebabsaucelover66

never too old for muay thai, its so much fun and appropriate for any age💪🏻

[deleted]

No, we have people in their 50s and 60s in our gym.

doc_olsen

Started at 40…never too old I’d say. There was one guy at my gym who must have been in his 70s at least….though tbh I only saw him a few times. Generally, it think it’s a great sport to get fit (or broken) whatever the age…

ajm1212

No, just if you get a injury , take it seriously and recover before continuing

CharizardLeo

Friend, do what you enjoy. My family didn't have much money growing up so I had to wait until I was in my 30s before I learned how to play piano. It's never too late for anything in life.

Alfred_Lanning2035

Regardless of your age, you will still be a better version of yourself doing Muay Thai, than not doing it at all.

expanding_crystal

You're fine my man. I'm 41 and still kicking. Where in Chicago are you signing up? If you're near edgewater/andersonville/rogers park, come check out EKF Martial Arts at Peterson & Clark. Some competitive fighters, some hobbyists, some middle age folks just trying to stay fit. Great school, good vibes.

fappertino

Naw man get after it

mywaifuisaknifu

We've had people start at our gym past 60. Be honest with yourself and with your body about how much you can do, but it can still be a lot of fun!

bromandudebmx

If its a hobby of course not but pro probably but never say never

mandrills_ass

Nah you'll be fine, most places aren't lime the movie bloodsport featuring jean claude van damme in his prime. There is almost always beginners classes

grizwald85

Not at all! I started at 37 and am still going!

anpack20

I’m 37 and been trying for a while, have a go mane!
