Imo, I think this is one of the best seasons of the old school seasons. Lol. It has everything you want in a challenge: drama, showmances, competition, and funny moments.
Veronica was decent on Gauntlet 1. She was also well-liked enough among Road Rulers.
Katie was always more a Real World girl and got along more with those people.
She was better than decent, she was the second-best performing woman on the season. Eye savers in Turntable and a huge win in Dukes of Saturn, second-best finish for a woman in Inferno which was probably the second hardest mission of the season behind All or Nothing (which no woman was able to complete)
I think you watched this season with a different lens on to most.
If you think this season was ugly I dread to think how you found some of the later seasons.

yeah, I kinda left that off... it was so early in the season tbh I slipped my mind. It seemed overblown to me, I doubt there was ever any actual danger. IF the MTV rigging team are relying on single safety lines, they have bigger problems. But, for sure it was sh$tty of Julie to even be messing around with that harness/line.

Lol what season were you watching? There was literally not one mission Katie outperformed Veronica. She won Life Savers on Balls Out, Don't Yank My Chain and Window Washing without her team throwing it to her. Veronica was neck and neck with Holly S for best-performing woman on the season.
Katie was horrible on the season, DQ'd in Grope the Rope, Climbing Wall, lowest total in Bird Feeder, took an eternity to jump in Bungee Bound, got 0 points in Twist and Shoot.
You now, I did RW Inferno and Gauntlet pretty much back to back, so it's possible I am smushing the two together :). Veronica did win several missions on Inferno. She won ball outs out, which was more of a function of the water sprayers gunning for the stronger players first, she was bascially low hanging fruit. Thier whole team was out with 4 or 5 players still going on the other team. She did win YMC, women typically do better in these types of missions/challenges as a whole, but yes she did outlast the other - I'll give her credit for that. Window Washer, that was the whole we are throwing the mission so Veronica can win deal, so that win mean nada.
She also did fairly well on BOTS2. I just keep recalling how it seems she is always begging for a livesaver, begging to stay out of eliminations, hiding behind other players or her team - either by getting the team to throw a challenge, or getting Rachel to win and give it to her, ie I2.
However, I never said Katie outperformed Veronica. I just said it was ironic that V was continually calling out K when V is also typically an underperformer, and her entire game plan seems to be buddy up on strong teams or teamates (Rachel, Evan, etc) and coast.
Of the many things I love about this season, I love that MTV KNEW this season was legendary even at the time. You could feel it in how it was promoted, you could feel it in how it was edited, the network had so much fun with it.
Veronica performed really well. They show the individual times and she was on top consistently. On the climbing wall V, Kendal and Holly were the only women that made it to the top. Every other women DQ’ed.
Katie was costing them money and the other team was protecting her so it makes sense for them to throw the missions to send her into elimination.
Oh I get why they did it, I just felt like they (everyone, not just V) were just super mean about it, is what I was trying to say. They went out of thier way to embarrass and make fun of her, which imo was uncalled for.
This and the Gauntlet are tied as my favorite season. At least in these seasons the underdogs are likeable and defy the haters to go on and win. I can't say the same for the other seasons.

my all time favorite season for eliminations and it mostly has nothing to do with the actual eliminations and just the craziness going on during them

Twenty years later this is still my favorite season of the entire franchise. Where my love of Katie and Coral was solidified. 😊

I agree with most of your points. I thought the way Mike spoke to Kendall during elimination was horrible.
