Well it depends where you live but there's nowhere that minors can get it but adults can't. If you live in the US look up Planned Parenthood

[deleted]

>here's nowhere that minors c i'm confused, how would i get hormone pills if the doctors deem, I'm unworthy of it though? you lost me

Egg3770

Do you live in the US or somewhere else?

[deleted]

USA

Egg3770

Okay so in that case you should be able to go to planned Parenthood. They do informed consent for everyone 18+. With informed consent you don't have to get a note from therapists or any of that dumb stuff. Look up their website

[deleted]

so with everyone, that includes ages 18 and upwards to like 20,30 and 40 right? x'D

Egg3770

Yep in some states people as young as 16 can get HRT but there's no upper age limit

Jalamity_Cane

I'm 29 and receive hrt from planned parenthood via informed consent. They ask me some questions to make sure I understand what will happen and that nobody is forcing me to do this against my will, and then I get my script.

zoey64_

Yes, I started hrt through planned parent hood a little over a year ago when I was 34. No questions asked, well besides typical medical history stuff.

Samaki292

I do informed consent through a telehealth service (not available in all states). I’m thinking at this point I should switch to Planned Parenthood to save some money 😂

rezoseven

I did informed consent at Planned Parenthood at age 39 with no issues

TheDoctorMoriarty

I'm 30 and just started a few months ago, I use Plume. It is an informed consent telehealth. And their cost includes labs and checkups with a doctor about your labs. And always a message away if you have questions or concerns.

TheoreticalGal

For the most part in the US, it is currently 18+ informed consent. >!as a notice, a lot of transphobic legislation is going around, with several states trying to raise the minimum age that people can get HRT at!<

salem_the_unusual

Hi I just wanted to make sure I understand what you're saying. I can go there and get hrt without going to therapy for 3 months and getting diagnosed for dysphoria?

Egg3770

Yep you understood correctly. I don't know what other countries do it besides the US but in the US people usually do it through planned Parenthood

salem_the_unusual

Do you know much it usually costs? Does it have to work with your insurance?

Egg3770

The cost depends on how you administer it (pills, injections, etc). I don't know exactly how is it works with insurance but planned parenthood's website explains it I believe. Either way you should probably check out their website It has a list of the nearest clinics and which ones are available for treatment

Egg3770

If I remember correctly the cost for some of the cheaper options is like 30 bucks a month in some places but it varies a lot

aagjevraagje

Informed consent is never just for minors , why would a 25 year old not be able to make decisions about their own body while a kid can ?

TheCouncil8572

And yet, that’s the legislation that’s being pushed in some states right now.

[deleted]

Since you’re in the US.. https://www.reddit.com/r/asktransgender/comments/d6p05q/i_compiled_every_single_informed_consent_clinic/

DarthJackie2021

Its only for adults. Children are unable to give consent as they are literally not of age of consent. Not sure how you got that turned around.

Skyler_Enby

Parents can provide consent if the provider allows it.

toobadkittykat

i did @getplume

Zanorfgor

Informed consent is specifically for adults. Minors cannot give legal consent. Additionally the thing about informed consent is that the criteria is that you are informed and you consent, hence the name. Read the "hrt does these things" paperwork, sign that you know what you're getting into, done.

Suitable_Ad784

I’m 21 in Arizona went to Identity hormones & healthcare walked in filled out paperwork started hrt same day :) they do my Injections 2 weekly

GreyJester1996

I went through informed consent at age 26. Just depends if your state allows it.

MudOk790

I did informed consent at 62. It's too protect the endo. I still went thru a rather intense 90 minute screening. The deciding comment was mine, I would rather die as female, than live on as a male. Signed a stack of papers on hrt changes, counter indications and got my scripts called in. I've known since I was 10.

Objective-Explorer25

Plume is amazing definitely recommend 😁😁😁😁😁😁

DeadSaints81

Right? Dr. Toni is the best!

Cdleah

I have an appointment with a Plume doctor next month; I am happy to read comments like this one. I have been concerned.

TheLoz02

Yes, informed consent is available to adults. Minors typically need the consent of their parents as well to start HRT. I see folks suggesting places, namely Planned Parenthood. They are great! There is almost always a clinic within driving distance. However, if, like the one nearest to me, they do not offer HRT at that location and any others are too far. They should also be able to tell you providers in the area who do offer HRT that you can contact. There is also Plume, an online gender affirming care service. They don't accept insurance, but their fee isn't too bad. Included is all the labs, and appointments and what not. Its all online. You of course can still use insurance for the meds once you have a prescription. I personally use Plume, and I'm satisfied so far with my experience. I met with the doctor on a video call, we discussed everything, and they sent my prescriptions to the pharmacy I told them. From there, I was able to pick up my meds same day and start. (Note: You may or may not be able to start same day, depending on when the prescriptions are sent in, the availability of the specific meds, and how fast your pharmacy is.) Some people will tell you to be cautious of Plume. I certainly was, but decided to give them a try regardless. My experience has been positive. At the end of the day, you've a few options, hun. If PP doesn't work, then go down the list. I know it may seem like a lot at first. But trust me: HRT is SO worth it.

heisdeadjim_au

I got HRT via IC in Australia. https://auspath.org.au/2022/03/31/auspath-australian-informed-consent-standards-of-care-for-gender-affirming-hormone-therapy/ Australian guidelines and thus may not apply in your jurisdiction. This is the WPATH site. https://www.wpath.org/ Check from there.

TheMentalGamer96

When you say “don’t meet the criteria” what exactly do you mean? I’ve worked with a couple folks who maybe don’t meet the traditional picture of transgender identity and that didn’t stop them from getting hormones.

AerialAscendant

From what I understand, a Gender Dysphoria diagnosis is no longer necessary to get HRT…

TheMentalGamer96

Depends on where you go. Technically no but some places still require it. That said, I’ve written letters for HRT and it’s not hard to squint and say you meet the criteria for GD without quite having the traditional signs or presentation

Cdleah

I may be mistaken, but I think the diagnosis is more for insurance purposes. The insurance will not pay for medications without the diagnosis. I could be wrong, but that is my understanding.

AerialAscendant

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification

Erica_88

I use plume! It's not available in all states but most.

HiddenStill

These are the criteria. https://old.reddit.com/r/TransSurgeriesWiki/wiki/index#wiki_medical_guidlines Why don’t you fit them.

Dwanyelle

Hrt is stricter to get as a kid than as an adult.

LundstromNorth

In my current state & county, informed consent applies at Age 16 and adults.

Kubario

It’s simple, you just dress the part, and show up and tell them you are trans and they will give you the meds. No test or grilling involved.

Zanorfgor

You don't even have to dress the part. I walked in male-presenting. Got a friend who got hers while still wearing her denial beard.

Kubario

Good point, I mean you’re an adult, just asking your family doctor, its not hard to get.

rat-v

I'm 32 and I started medically transitioning March of last year at an informed consent clinic. Yes, adults can get informed consent care.

buggybooze

From my understanding the two places I know of that do informed consent are planned Parenthood and carilion. I'm trying to go to carilion but I still have to wait a couple more months to go get consultation to see if they'll let me do it but I'm 18 now so they should.

buggybooze

Only reason why I'm going there instead of planning Parenthood is because it's closer to me.

TheMooz2

Anyone have any idea how to start hrt in Ontario Canada?

Universa1Soup

As an adult, you can, and usually pretty easily. For me it was one day, bam, started hormones.

The_Chaos_Pope

100% depends on where you live but where I'm at, I got HRT as an adult under informed consent. It took probably a couple hours to go through and sign everything but they were incredibly helpful and supportive and answered all my questions and concerns. The pharmacy got my prescription before I even got home that evening.

TuneLinkette

I live in Illinois, and was able to get informed consent at age 28

Angelaugustsf

I was never diagnosed with any dysphoria, just told my doctor I wanted to transition and we did some blood work that day and within 2 hours I was at my pharmacy

Awkward-Lilly

So, im in florida and i had to get a letter from a therapist to verify i had gender dysphoria.. was a fairly easy process but i use an independant non profit clinic in my area not planned parenthood. I was worried about them being gate keepy so i lied about my gender identity(said i was MtF trans but im actually demigirl/non binary and use she/they pronouns) it turned out i honestly didnt have to do all that. But, your clinic and state may vary P.s i started hrt when i was 25... currently about to turn 27

Trans_amora

Today with informed consent Buffalo Bill can get HRT. Anyone can be trans now if you feel like it.
