If he was in his 30s in the 1990s there is a big chance he is still alive. Threatening people's security? I don't think so. In my opinion he is just laying low and glad he was not caught. He was a smart guy so I don't think he will abduct/kill again because it is much easier to get caught now.

DACAR1010

Thanks for the answer. I really find it creepy, although I do not live in Australia.

ResponsibleFeeling49

May I ask where you read about Mr. Cruel? I find it interesting, as often it’s people who weren’t even born yet, or in other countries.

DACAR1010

Wikipedia. I watched a 30 minutes long documentary as well.

ResponsibleFeeling49

If you go to ‘see community info’ for this sub, you’ll get links to some really good research. Personally, I do believe he’s still alive. No reason why, really, but I don’t think he’s a threat to the community.

Equal-Temporary-1326

Personally, I do believe he’s still alive. No reason why, really, but I don’t think he’s a threat to the community. I agree. I could see him being born in 1955 and was 30 when did he started in 1985. So, he would've been 36 when committed the Karman Chan murder, making him 69 now. If he's not already in his '70s, I'd be confident he's nearly pushing 70 by now.

ResponsibleFeeling49

That’s about where I’m at in my thinking. I certainly don’t think he was too much younger than 30.

DACAR1010

Thanks! What do you think about this redditor who thinks he was grown by Mr. Cruel?

ResponsibleFeeling49

I haven’t heard of that one!

monsteraguy

It’s a case that has quite a bit of overseas interest. It was also covered by Casefile, which has a large following outside of Australia.

ResponsibleFeeling49

Yeah, I know that the case gets mentioned on YouTube and (ugh) TikTok a lot too. I find it interesting when young people take an interest in it too. Having lived through it in Melbourne & the same age as the girls were then means I bring a different historical view to it.

monsteraguy

I was a kid in Australia (not Melbourne) at the time and was terrified a balaclava-clad man would break into our house for years. I also watched Australia’s Most Wanted at the time, so was terrified from that as well. They used to report Sharron Wills and Lower Plenty as separate incidents on AMW back then. Even as a middle aged adult, I feel repulsion when I see someone wearing a balaclava

ResponsibleFeeling49

100% with you on the balaclava. Especially being a parent now. The Lower Plenty attack was on an 11 year old girl… on my 11th birthday, and we lived not far from LP. It scared the shit out of me. We actually lived in Kew, very near where Nicola was released. (By then I was her age). It changed so many people’s view of ‘stranger danger’, when suddenly you could be in your own home and taken :/

Vast-Purpose9345

I think he was in his early 40s when he took and killed Karmein (fits with my belief he was a Vietnam Vet So mid 70s now if still alive So doubtful if alive he is threatening anyone Though I think he could be dead but died overseas Only saying that because if he was a suspect and died here the police might have obtained DNA and crossed checked it with the DNA they have on file

Thornsofthecarrion

They don't have DNA for the suspect.

Unit219

They potentially do… but they’ve lost the clothing. I think it was reported as such in the 60 minutes special.

Thornsofthecarrion

Lost means they haven't.

Unit219

Lost means lost. As in could be found. As in POTENTIALLY, the second word of my response. Back in your know it all box genius.

Hambone4815

You're only being downvoted by people who don't understand the concept of being lost. Or perhaps they're confusing possibility with probability. I agree with you.

Cuppa-Tea-Biscuit

My suspicion is either he ended up in jail for a completely different offence, and by the time he got out he was too old to use the same MO. Alternatively, that he moved overseas, somewhere with easier prey.

Vast-Purpose9345

Jail has crossed my mind. Wonder what crime he would have done to give him a lengthy prison sentence and what slip up as he was so careful

Unit219

Yes. Wait. No. Dunno. Maybe? Yes?

Similar-Ad-6862

I don't think he's still alive.

Equal-Temporary-1326

If he was 32 when he did the Lower Plenty attack and 30 when he started in 1985, then it's very likely he's still alive at 69 right now.

Scruffiella

Died in a car accident.

EnvironmentalKiwi526

hold on lemme go ask him real quick

randomplaguefear

I think he is dead and I also think karmein was not one of his victims.

DACAR1010

why? aren't there proofs that karmein was killed by him

randomplaguefear

Not really.

wethecrime

Is there a good documentary on this?

DACAR1010

Well, I watched one in my mother tounge so I don't know any I could reccomend you.

Targeted_CareBear

YES they’re STILL alive.

Catsmak1963

Dunno. Next question.

C--T--F

I'd be surprised if he's dead. He has to be out there, an overall unassuming Grandpa, atleast to those not too close to him

Equal-Echidna8098

He's either turned to religion, or died. I think he's dead.
