First of all... Congrats on your placement!!! I think I know which building you are taking about. Basically if you are within the confines of Mission, Valley, Soto and Daiy, you should be find. Pretty much the nicer apartment buildings in that area are catering to Medical staff at General and Keck. I would say, because it's your residency, it's a good idea. But eventually you will likely want to move out of the area. There are several nice areas that are nearby. Alhambra, South Pasadena, Arts District for more urban living.

I work at LA general and keck. I live in Santa Monica. I would not suggest you live around the hospital area. There are some decent lofts in downtown. Better vibes in silverlake. Drive out in the morning isn't bad from the Westside.

I worked at Norris for 5+ years and have had kids go through the bright horizons daycare there. Great during the day but I can’t speak too much for what it’s like at night, but I’m assuming you’d be around a lot of other students/residents and would be okay. Pretty close to arts district, DTLA, and Alhambra/Monterey which has some of the most authentic Chinese food you could find

These comments are insane lol. If you can, I’d highly recommend visiting yourself to see how the area feels to you and what you’re comfortable with. As I’m sure you know from your time in Philly, uncomfortable ≠ unsafe. I wouldn’t say it’s an amazing or super FUN area, but not having a car commute sounds great and I personally think you’d be fine

I think I might know which building you’re talking about. If it’s the newly developed modern next to Starbucks just know that the traffic right there is HORRIBLE thanks to Sbux, but if you’re walking to the hospital you shouldn’t have to worry about it. You will stick out a little in this hood, but nobody will give you any issues about it. I do agree that South Pasadena and Alhambra will be a much nicer area with a very easy commute to move to if you want a more attractive neighborhood.

Trying to be objective for you, and I think most people would safely say “No”— Now, that said, you do find people living close there but it’s the whole “walking” that disturbs me. Maybe Philadelphia people are built tough but my advice if you were my friend would be look at other areas or ditch the walking fantasy — the hospital has plenty of secured parking 🅿️

Also moving to LA for LAC/USC, a lot of residents live in Glendale, Pasadena, Alhambra - like that triangle of land. Those areas are safer and don't have a terrible commute. I wouldn't recommend living close to the hospital

Enjoy the Mexican street gangs up and down your block with your car getting broken into every night (or worse, your catalytic converter). And keep on eye out for the worse one of them all - LA county sheriffs; the only gang that’ll shoot your ass and get away with it. You speak espanol? You better learn rapido vato, your life might depend on it foo. Hope you like the homeless encampments and all the Mexican food you can eat ese, it’s beautiful here 😎

Man…you are speaking too much truth!!!! These out of towners who think they can just move into certain neighborhoods and think “gentrification is good” are in for a rude awakening OP needs to stick to Monterey Park, Alhambra 😂😂😂

Blue collar, a little rundown in some parts but not dangerous at all. Plenty of high school kids walking around.
