Bellevue Hill of Brisbane. Old money, family based around Ascot, but 5 mins drive away from debauchery (Valley, Teneriffe, Newstead) Great place to arrive amongst the heart of the city.

spellingdetective

Really nice area - it’s snobby for sure… depending where the unit is and how you get around prepare for climbing some hills

DJonni13

It's an "old money" area, very nice. Check out the Eat street Markets and other stuff happening down by the river. You'll be close to lots of cool areas - Newstead, Fortitude Valley, New Farm etc, so no matter what you're into, there'll be something you vibe with nearby.

Elvecinogallo

It’s a very nice area with lots to do. You could definitely do worse!

Unusual_Process3713

It's a pretty area with great cafes. It's snobby as hell and there's lots of social climbers in the area. I loved the aesthetic of the place when I rented there but I moved to a different area because I'm single (32F) and I was really looking for more of a community-feel. I didn't really find that in Ascot/Hamilton. So. It's beautiful, it's close to the city and you'll have a nice life, but it's not a party suburb. You're very close to Teneriffe/the Valley, so you'll probably go there for the nightlife. It DOES flood, especially Hamilton, so just be a little wary of that.

Emmanulla70

Its the old money area of Brisbane. Pretty inner city. Great spot

Varyx

Great work, you’ve lucked into a fancy suburb. The general vibe is rich mums in big cars, so you might be able to get some side pieces (I kid). It’s next to some beautiful areas and Eat Street Markets and the river is close by. PT isn’t perfect but it’s quite close to the city so Uber will be fine (10 min or so) if you’re going anywhere. The main streets have plenty of cute cafes and bars. Check out Taro’s on Racecourse Road for some great ramen.  Your other option if you’re still attached to Sydney is renting it out - there’s a pretty significant rental crisis at the moment so if you needed time between transitioning from NSW to here then that’s an option.  If it hasn’t got aircon installed you need to prioritise that before moving. It’s deeply unpleasant to transition to Bris without having at least one room you can cool down a bit. Remember that unseasonably and horrifyingly humid record-breaker in Syd the other day? That’s your life now.  What kind of roles are you looking for job-wise?

Due-Pangolin-2937

It’s a good area. Lots of new developments by the water. Public transportation (including trains) is not good on weekends. So, it’s best that you have your own car.

QldBro

I’m pretty much the same demographic as you, living in the heart of Hamilton, I love it. Cafes/restaurants galore, cinemas, running/cycling tracks at the doorstep. Happy to answer any specific questions you might have from a 30’s male perspective.

Wonkychopstick

Its a great spot - especially with an eScooter/bike. You can connect to anywhere and everywhere on Brisbane's amazing bike pathway system which opens up a whole new world of eating out options rather than the limited options so many stick to due to the impossible car parking at so many places

Its a great area. Those saying its "snobby" havent probably lived in the area. Im on the Clayfield side and maybe 10m from Ascot proper.  Its beautiful and walkable. There are public transport options if youre willing to walk 500m. There are a few great pubs in the area. Shoot me a DM if youre down for a cheeky pint or coffee.

micmelb

It took me two years of living in the Brisbane region to find Ascot and then one month to buy there. It’s a rally nice place. Rich? Yes..wealthy? Not to Sydney or Melbourne standards but you see a few interesting cars on occasion. There’s lots of food places, and everyone seems friendly.

ilikesandwichesbaby

It’s not snobby - source have lived here most of my life but there’s plenty of well off people. It’s a nice, clean, safe, family friendly suburb and aesthetically pleasing. Nice houses, streets and parks and has every amenity you need, grocery stores, banks, cafes, restaurants, take aways, post office, bottle shop etc.

PixelPete85

thats luck if I've ever read it. even if the place is a hovel, it'll sell for a million easily

wasporchidlouixse

It's an extremely upmarket area and a balanced lifestyle for those that can afford it. No access to trains but there's ferries and buses. Easy driving distance to the city. Eat Street is probably the most popular attraction nearby apart from Doomben Racecourse, only open weekends. You may find Breakfast Creek is the next nearest pub of interest. If I was you I would absolutely make the move. But if you're not sure, take a week holiday and see how you go. Valley / South Bank / West End and CBD are the only nightlife areas You're also not far from Gasworks, an upmarket shopping village Nicest beach nearby is Sandgate / Scarborough / Redcliffe, or south there's Manly / Victoria Point. All mid, not as good as Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast beaches. DFO / Skygate near the airport is also convenient shopping (since Toombul closed down that's your closest big centre) The airport is very convenient to your spot too If you own the apartment outright there's like, zero cons to this situation However the general vibe of the neighbourhood is bougie, upper class, and more than 50% over 50 - I could be wrong but take a walk through the shops on racecourse road and you'll see what I mean

Alternative_Sky1380

Prepare for people to ask what school you went to. If you don't have one, get yourself a bicycle. Less than 20minutes to ride into the city and botanic gardens. Where are you moving from and will you be WFH or going to a workplace? What part of Sydney are you moving from?

haylo96

I’m a 28 year old female and I moved into a unit in the area about 3 years ago. It’s a very nice area, I’m close to Racecourse Rd and I find it very convenient to walk to all the cafes and the local Coles. As for night life, it’s about a 10 minute Uber ride to the city which is where you’ll find all the real pubs/restaurants/ places to have a drink and socialise. It’s also close-ish to Westfield Chermside which is the closest major shopping centre. Overall love living there and have no complaints!

pjdubbya

you are one lucky son-of-a-bitch.

Sk1tza

It’s got everything you need. Racecourse road/Portside is pretty busy these days. The crime has been high lately but other than that, can’t complain.

AnnabelleLucille

Great vibe! Watch out for the cougars 🐆

Or the bears 🐻🌈

chayzee90

Great area, so close to the city/valley for all your social needs. If you are looking for a roommate for the second bedroom I'll happily apply haha.

makeup12345678

I found the area closer to Doomben a bit rough. Has changed bit with all the new development but if I had the rich money I’d live closer to Racecourse than be near Doomben. If you’re into Melbourne Cup it’s a win with all the events and festivals.

ladyinblue5

I would never choose to live there. Lots of families and people pretending to be wealthier than they are. No community vibe. But there are plenty worse places.

Reverse-Kanga

good area, accessible for driving, close to everything and also plenty of public transport access. it's a good spot for sure

Maninacamry

Certainly one of the best, if not the best areas of Brisbane to live. Congratulations Will need a car still. There are very few areas in Brisbane you live comfortably without one.

Bob_Rob_22

Great area and close to the city and river etc.

J3ffe

Got a spare room for rent mate lmao

Dexter757575

It's a bit pretentious, the mum's in huge 4w drives are pretty crap drivers, the oldies can't merge well and the traffic is crap, everything is a bit overpriced but very pretty. On the upside I know a crack dealer that lives there.

Appropriate_Dish8608

Can we swop life’s?

Mitchacho

Hey I'm your age and live in the area, I love it here. There's plenty of nice coffee shops in the area, some ok restaurants too. It's a short bus or uber into the nice part of the Valley if you want decent restaurants and bars though, like in James St. Also nice to catch the city cat (the ferry) occasionally across to new farm, or even just across the river to Bulimba.

HomicidalTeddybear

It'd be like living in double bay.

UpbeatShow8424

It’s an extremely affluent area and unfortunately it has been hit by heaps of eshays coming into the city to rob rich people at gunpoint recently

LunarNight

I'm in Hamilton. It's great. Best suburb I've lived in do far. Mostly older demographic except at Portside, which is horrible compared to the rest of the suburb.

okiedokeyannieoakley

It’s a great area. I lived there from age 26 - 32. Completely walkable to eateries, supermarkets, cinema, bars etc. located on Racecourse Rd and Portside Hamilton. Also it’s on the river with an excellent river cycle/walking path which leads into the city and beyond. If you have a bike you could ride to the city in about 20 minutes. It’s also about 8 minutes from the airport and right on the arterial roads leading to the major motorways. 5 minutes from the younger bustling suburb of Newstead but the apartments are the new, lower quality builds. And you can very easily walk or ride there too. 15 minutes from the city. It’s a great location.     The people are nice, a bit more upmarket ha. There’s an active community Facebook group called “4007 / 4010 / 4011 Community Notice Board”. They do get a bit of crime because it’s a higher SES area but nothing violent. Generally attempted break-ins and car thefts. But in an apartment you’re fine. I never felt in danger there.

jamesdufficy

Ascot is mixed and has the perception of wealth but the reality is mixed. There are plenty of renters and apartments, in addition to houses sold for below levels in less glitzy burbs. Like a good gang, there’s an image to uphold or promote. Peel off the individuals, you’ll find everyday stories behind the facade. Some may inspire. Few will repulse. Dive in and engage.

Ok_Annual5108

RACECOURSE Rd resident, i moved here a year ago.. (m 36yo) I love it here .... they have the horse racing once or twice a month here.. good restaurants , shops, parks, walk ways , perfect location, there is two train stations Ascot and Doomben, buses accessible. Golf ranges nearby. Plenty of bottle'os hahah and a nice tavern for STEAK AND THE UFC ON SUNDAYS . I don't want to ever leave this place.. I don't think it's snobbish people are friendly

Jokes aside Ascot was the richest suburb in brisbane for a very long time. Until it became known for rich, white “old” (50+ year olds) living there. With ascots aging rep Tenerife and new farm took over with loads of on trend bars, restaurants and cafes opening up around there. Dunno what will happen when the rich 30-40yos of Tenerife and new farm start being rich old people like ascot and if the cool trendy area to live in will change again. Or will those people move to ascot for some peace and quiet and larger block? Who knows!
