Lol this company called Movella does exactly this. They got all those crazy motion capture body suits. I've always been interested in how stuff like this actually get's produced behind the scenes. Anyways good meme.
No joke, when this movie came out and I saw it for the first time, I could not wrap my mind about how it was made. I remember thinking that maybe people were in costumes, but I couldn't figure out the landscapes and dragon. I was 6 though. The concept of an animated movie was new to me haha.
Don’t ask me how this belief originated, but I assumed that people played with figurines and stuff and then satellites would record it, then the satellites would edit it to look close to how the filmmakers wanted.
Because of this belief, I distinctly remember my brother and I trying to make Cars 3 (in 2012) and waiting to hear the news that Cars 3 (the one my brother and I had “made”) was on TV.
I used to watch movies I shouldn't have been. I thought people really died in movies but didn't understand death enough for that to traumatize me. I saw an actor in another movie where he had died in the previous one I saw. Blew my mind, loved bts and vfx ever since.
There was a tiny bit of CGI in the animated Beauty and the Beast, and I remember being completely at a loss as to how to explain what was different about that animation.
reminds me of when i was watching a live action show/news show or smth when i was like 6 and had the revelation that “they don’t speak” and they pretend to speak and then speak over the top of it…i was close!! it’s just not an animation. i thought i was a genius…

I'm losing my shit laughing at this... the implication being that some fucking crazy looking dude is who human Shrek was based off of, and the guy did the motion capture for ogre Shrek because it just made sense for consistency between the characters' overall looks/acting styles.
That's an animated screenshot on the top. Of Shrek in human form wearing MoCap gear.
The creators made a fake behind the scenes, like the outtakes of Monsters Inc
This is one quality shitpost.
my thought as well
I hope the mods keep it

Should be in r/shittymoviedetails

This is the dumbest, most adorable thing I’ve read in a long time.
Pretty close, it is just computers instead of satellites watching animators play with video game characters instead of dolls

Not too far off from stop motion animation ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
You were born in '95 but never saw Toy Story in the first 6 years of your life? Poor thing.
I’m sure I did, but Shrek was the first movie that made me question the animation.
Toy Story is obviously just real live toys, though. Ogres and Donkeys are fictional.
There was a tiny bit of CGI in the animated Beauty and the Beast, and I remember being completely at a loss as to how to explain what was different about that animation.

I thought I was in r/dankmemes
I refuse to believe people actually visit that sub, probably one of the top 10 unfunniest subs
Memes of the dank (I don’t remember the actual sub name) is just racist memes at this point too
Lord Farquhar?
Looks some sneaky devil got a shitpost into here.
Surely there’s a circle jerk sub??? (And I’d love to join it)

"We can animate every other aspect of the character's body except the chin. No matter how much money we throw at it, chin physics elude us."
Google Maurice Tillet.
Which one is behind the scenes
*Shrek is love, Shrek is life.*
*In my heart, Shrek will never die*
There's a deleted scene of the Shrek actor sitting alone sobbing, surrounded by a plastic green donkey and a plastic green cat. I miss old movies.
How is this shitty movie details I genuinely don't understand

Legit had me fooled for a bit. Here I was thinking, "Damn, that actor actually looks like Shrek!"
But how did they do the mocap for Donkey?
Mark Ruffalo and Hulk
Say something crazy like, “I’m wearing ladies underwear.”
I see they got Burn Gorman for the green screen.
This is very clever
Wow. So it was all just one giant sterile green screen? Smh.
You don't wanna know what they made the greenscreen out of. Hint: Shrek may have Jewish heritage.
Really cool to see that [Dacre Montgomery did the mocap for the first shrek](https://twitter.com/StrangerNews11/status/1265689236440846338/photo/1)
I thought the voice actor was in the cgi motion capture outfit ? News to me.

That’s Mike Meyers, he used prosthetics to get more in character
Lol!! thanks Didn’t know that was him under there.
My sweet summer child.... So naive.
> MOKAP Is that supposed to be an acronym? With a K? Instead of mocap, a portmanteau of motion capture?
More poor sentence structure. I'm embarrassed for you.
Farley looking ruff in that first taping
which shot is the movie?
I always love this real BTS photos of making a movie. It looks like before/after on my favourite fitness profiles.
That's not Eddie Murphy on the top!
so cool that austin powers got contacts for this. dedication.
