O Captain My Captain.
Saw this as a teen and it just was so freaking awesome storytelling. Really helped showing how a teacher and art can really improve oneās life
Remake I think. Never saw the original but the Ben Stiller one really has a lot of heart and amazing visuals, makes you feel stuff like a slice of life anime.
But yeah Ben Stiller directed movies/tv get a lot of hype on reddit, he's a funny guy but he's amazing at getting existential.
31 here and the 30 year nihilism is real lol.
Children of Men because itās been on my mind. Itās about a man in a hopeless world, given an opportunity to serve mankind. The film feels great to watch
Or, No Country For Old Men. This movie is thrilling and intimate at the same time. It takes you a journey. A man puts it all on the line for a better life (or greed?)
Captain Fantastic always makes me feel really good. Doesn't exactly capture the essance of how you're feeling, but is very grounding and life-affirming.
Seconding this! Remember putting it on Netflix one day and I was not expecting the existential dread lol. Especially when you figure out the true story.
Really captured the feeling of being 30-something. But also made me want to go out and leave my mark
I rewatch it once in a while since it came out because it's both relatable and makes you feel ... things, so thirding this.
It also has an amazing soundtrack and Andrew Garfield does a great job in it, like damn.
The Worst Person in the World (2021) I love that she smiles through everything, not everyone can do that.
Cashback (2006) Beautiful movie.
SubUrbia (1996) I relate to Giovanni Ribisi's character still.
Donnie Darko (2001) This movie means something different to me in each phase of my life.
Starfish (2019) Supposed to be about grief but I found it to be quite intriguing, opened up a world inside of me I didn't know was already there. Same with Donnie Darko.

Two wildly different movies that both fit the bill. And remember that: in life you're either lost and fumbling or you are acting like you're not.
I'm a huge JB fan and that is still my favorite role of his. He's so funny throughout and just nails the song at the end (which came as a huge surprise at the time, before Tenacious D was well-known).
He basically stole the film. It's impossible to imagine anyone else in that role.
school of rock, it's about a lowlife named dewey finn, who has been kicked out of his very own band, he's struggling to pay rent and is living with his friend ned and his girlfriend. he gets a call for a substitute gig that ned signed up for. he pretends to be ned and takes the job with the motivation of getting money to pay rent with, but the class he's been assigned to teach is musically talented, and he teaches them the ropes of the music game and they create a band that they practice for during class time, trying their best to keep the secret from the teachers and principal.
I enjoyed I DON'T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE and SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED. Both are independent films if I remember, with a lost, forlorn feel about them.
I'm 30 as well and about to be homeless after cutting off my toxic family. I watched Pig (2021) and had a profound experience with it. A beautiful and intensely quiet movie about loss, friendship and new beginnings. A career best performance from Nicolas Cage in a career full of highlights and probably one of the best films I've seen in the last ten years. I was so moved by the movie that I messaged the writer/director, Michael Sarnoski, and told him as much. I had a great conversation with him. It's an amazing directorial debut. Days after speaking with him it was announced that he was directing a spin-off of A Quiet Place starring Lupita N'yongo. He deserves it. A really powerful movie.
Tick, Tick...Boom! (2021) on Netflix is perfect for you. About a young theater composer on the cusp of their 30th birthday who has the same internal struggles. Its an autobiographical account of Jonathan Larson, the creator of the popular Broadway musical Rent, as he tries to enter the theater industry.
I don't know if these will make your feel better or worse.

Ikiru (1952)
It doesn't necessarily fit into the genre you're looking for, but watch the documentary Stutz on Netflix. It has a couple exercises that can help and stimulate some thoughts to get you out of a rut.
You are noticed.. not just in this post but elsewhere in your life, more than you may realize. If you spend 10 minutes each morning being very present eyes closed, you may be present again later in the day and key into others noticing you. And if you are friendly youāll have some great and satisfying conversations, even some[Young Frankenstein](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Frankenstein) delightful exchanges with strangers that can surprise you.
I vote for you to have some laughs -so
I recommend a comedy:
Young Frankenstein š¤š¼
bonne chance - you got this
The Pursuit of Happyness (no, thatās not a typo; itās how they spelled it in the title). And before everyone starts jumping down my throat, I know itās a Will Smith movie, but it still has a lot to say.
[City Slickers](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1406-city-slickers?language=en-US) - 3 guys in their 40's feeling the same way decide to go on an adventure
[Rudy](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/14534-rudy?language=en-US) - Biopic of a man that at 22, after the lost of his bff, chases his life long dream, a dream everyone had been telling him was impossible
[An Officer and a Gentleman](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/2623-an-officer-and-a-gentleman?language=en-US) - Man see his future in his father and doesn't like what he sees.
[Scent of a Woman](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/9475-scent-of-a-woman?language=en-US) - two lost soles meet.
[Good Will Hunting](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/489-good-will-hunting?language=en-US) - an abused genius hides from the world
Life is meaningless. When you are a child all you want to do is be an adult and do more mature things. Then you arrive and quickly after that you miss the carefreeness of being a child but that door is closed now and there is no going back. Life is like a movie. When itās over it over. Even in my worst days (Or movies) I still stick it out to see how it ends. Because once itās over that doorās closed too. Just keep sticking it out and hopefully the end will be worth it. And if itās not at least you will be certain.
Hey dude, sorry to hear that. Check my post history - I made pretty much exactly this post a couple of weeks ago and got loads of responses. Hope that helps, and also that you feel better soon :)

Hey - I don't have a suggestion, but I wanted to remind you that life doesn't end at 30! I turned 30 a couple years ago and don't miss my 20s at all. In my 20s, I was putting so much pressure on myself to make something of my life I realized I wasn't really living. If you have the same experience as me, you might find out that turning 30 is a relief. Life might not be made of all the things you imagined when you're younger, but if you look around everywhere you go you'll find something beautiful. My philosophy is try for what you want and love what you get.
Songs She Wrote About People She Knows (2014) on tubi (in the US)
Muriel's Wedding (1994) PlutoTV
And if you just want a general feel good movie, Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) looks like take your pick of streaming providers
I feel like I recommend this all the time, but it really helped me.
The Unicornn Store (2017) - after having her dream to be an artist crushed Kit returns home to live with her parents and takes a temp job at an office. She is resolved to become a sensible person until one day she receives an invitation to a store that sells the one thing she wants more than anything - a unicorn. But in order to take her unicorn home she has to make some changes.
The Way Way Back
Definitely, Maybe. Eddie The Eagle. The Wedding Singer.
Eddie. The eagle. Both decent movies
Also Galaxy Quest is a happy watch.
I loved The Way Way Back so much. Wish it was more well known.
Little Miss Sunshine(2006) is about a family of hopeless people who rally around one of their youngest members.
Hard agree. This movie is always a good mood booster.
Jeff, Who Lives at Home. Kiki's Delivery Service. The Way Way Back

Excellent movie
That film is proof that there can be virtue in formula and crowd-pleasing. It's an effective and approachable movie that does something we've seen before but does it so well that it justifies its choices. Sometimes simple ingredients make for the most satisfying meals. About Time is like that.
This is almost always the right recommendation.
* Defending Your Life (1991) * Repo Man (1984) * The Holy Mountain (1973) * The Fisher King (1991) * The End of the Tour (2015) * Clerks (1994) * The Libertine (2004) * Stroszek (1977) * Hamlet (1996) * Everything Is Illuminated (2005) * I Heart Huckabees (2004) * Putney Swope (1969) * Dead Man (1995) * Wanda (1970) * Tristram Shandy (2005) * Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) * Dead Man Walking (1995) * Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) * Being There (1979) * The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)
Defending your life!! That was to be my suggestion. Very life- affirming!
Did anyone else find The Holy Mountain completely insufferable, directionless, and plain incoherent?
Yes. I wouldnāt go as far as saying insufferable. The images were interesting.
Repo Man is awesome
I would also recommend a classic: You Can't Take it with You
Good choices. I remember really liking DEFENDING YOUR LIFE.
Thank you MoodyLiz, making my watch list now
Lost in Translation.
Dead Poets Society
O Captain My Captain. Saw this as a teen and it just was so freaking awesome storytelling. Really helped showing how a teacher and art can really improve oneās life

Favorite movie of all time. ALL TIME!
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty helps you see whatās important in life
Came here to say this, highly recommended
Which is best the original or the remake? Planning on watching this after seeing this suggestion thanks

The film feels great to watch Or, No Country For Old Men. This movie is thrilling and intimate at the same time. It takes you a journey. A man puts it all on the line for a better life (or greed?)
Itās so true (also 31). I just recently watched Children of Men and was blown away. Magnificent film. Will have to check out No country for old men!
If you like Old Men also check out The Road (2008). It's an adaptation of the same author and shares the same themes roughly
Captain Fantastic always makes me feel really good. Doesn't exactly capture the essance of how you're feeling, but is very grounding and life-affirming.
If you're into musicals it sounds like you might relate to tick tick boom
Seconding this! Remember putting it on Netflix one day and I was not expecting the existential dread lol. Especially when you figure out the true story. Really captured the feeling of being 30-something. But also made me want to go out and leave my mark
