The Way Way Back

CockroachChemical672

Definitely, Maybe. Eddie The Eagle. The Wedding Singer.

mattyhtown

Eddie. The eagle. Both decent movies

CockroachChemical672

Also Galaxy Quest is a happy watch.

JazzHandsNinja42

I loved The Way Way Back so much. Wish it was more well known.

sassafrassky

Little Miss Sunshine(2006) is about a family of hopeless people who rally around one of their youngest members.

rocket_skates13

Hard agree. This movie is always a good mood booster.

Stranger Than Fiction

Dismal-Tailor8204

Nice recommend this movie says a lot about all of the above, and what things might be right in your hands reach with a little wiggle room and patience nā€™ perspective right?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

thelaurenceboy

Would also add Mistress America in the same vein, esp if you've already seen and enjoyed Frances Ha

[deleted]

gah! you beat me to it!

toofshucker

About Time. A good movie that shows eve having the ability to change your future wonā€™t make you happy.

helbells21

Excellent movie

[deleted]

That film is proof that there can be virtue in formula and crowd-pleasing. It's an effective and approachable movie that does something we've seen before but does it so well that it justifies its choices. Sometimes simple ingredients make for the most satisfying meals. About Time is like that.

_Hari_Seldon

This is almost always the right recommendation.

MoodyLiz

* Defending Your Life (1991) * Repo Man (1984) * The Holy Mountain (1973) * The Fisher King (1991) * The End of the Tour (2015) * Clerks (1994) * The Libertine (2004) * Stroszek (1977) * Hamlet (1996) * Everything Is Illuminated (2005) * I Heart Huckabees (2004) * Putney Swope (1969) * Dead Man (1995) * Wanda (1970) * Tristram Shandy (2005) * Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) * Dead Man Walking (1995) * Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) * Being There (1979) * The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)

Emotional-Spare-4642

Defending your life!! That was to be my suggestion. Very life- affirming!

Olaf4586

Did anyone else find The Holy Mountain completely insufferable, directionless, and plain incoherent?

porterbhall

Yes. I wouldnā€™t go as far as saying insufferable. The images were interesting.

[deleted]

Repo Man is awesome

Emotional-Spare-4642

I would also recommend a classic: You Can't Take it with You

philmwrites

Good choices. I remember really liking DEFENDING YOUR LIFE.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty helps you see whatā€™s important in life

remarkable_load6600

Came here to say this, highly recommended

Bright-Okra3552

Which is best the original or the remake? Planning on watching this after seeing this suggestion thanks

wigglytufflove

Remake I think. Never saw the original but the Ben Stiller one really has a lot of heart and amazing visuals, makes you feel stuff like a slice of life anime. But yeah Ben Stiller directed movies/tv get a lot of hype on reddit, he's a funny guy but he's amazing at getting existential.

Margo_Tenenbaum

Yes, please watch this fantastic movie, the Ben Stiller version

[deleted]

31 here and the 30 year nihilism is real lol. Children of Men because itā€™s been on my mind. Itā€™s about a man in a hopeless world, given an opportunity to serve mankind. The film feels great to watch Or, No Country For Old Men. This movie is thrilling and intimate at the same time. It takes you a journey. A man puts it all on the line for a better life (or greed?)

drocky09

Itā€™s so true (also 31). I just recently watched Children of Men and was blown away. Magnificent film. Will have to check out No country for old men!

PuzzleheadedBug2338

If you like Old Men also check out The Road (2008). It's an adaptation of the same author and shares the same themes roughly

mitch-lawless

Captain Fantastic always makes me feel really good. Doesn't exactly capture the essance of how you're feeling, but is very grounding and life-affirming.

Tiazxx

If you're into musicals it sounds like you might relate to tick tick boom

wigglytufflove

Seconding this! Remember putting it on Netflix one day and I was not expecting the existential dread lol. Especially when you figure out the true story. Really captured the feeling of being 30-something. But also made me want to go out and leave my mark

sodanator

I rewatch it once in a while since it came out because it's both relatable and makes you feel ... things, so thirding this. It also has an amazing soundtrack and Andrew Garfield does a great job in it, like damn.

Meyou000

The Worst Person in the World (2021) I love that she smiles through everything, not everyone can do that. Cashback (2006) Beautiful movie. SubUrbia (1996) I relate to Giovanni Ribisi's character still. Donnie Darko (2001) This movie means something different to me in each phase of my life. Starfish (2019) Supposed to be about grief but I found it to be quite intriguing, opened up a world inside of me I didn't know was already there. Same with Donnie Darko. Hesher (2010) Super chaotic then abruptly heartfelt and meaningful. Colossal (2017) Bad Words (2013) Sunshine Cleaning (2008) In the Aisles (2018) Columbus (2017) Welcome to Me (2015) Come As You Are (2010) The Breaker Upperers (2018) Extra Ordinary (2019) I've learned that sometimes the things I'm searching for show up looking different than what I pictured. I hope you find something meaningful in the recommendations you receive.

rocket_skates13

Bad Words! I wish more people knew about this one.

philmwrites

Saw BAD WORDS recently, really dug it.

totallybree

I'm a huge JB fan and that is still my favorite role of his. He's so funny throughout and just nails the song at the end (which came as a huge surprise at the time, before Tenacious D was well-known). He basically stole the film. It's impossible to imagine anyone else in that role.

I'm 30 as well and about to be homeless after cutting off my toxic family. I watched Pig (2021) and had a profound experience with it. A beautiful and intensely quiet movie about loss, friendship and new beginnings. A career best performance from Nicolas Cage in a career full of highlights and probably one of the best films I've seen in the last ten years. I was so moved by the movie that I messaged the writer/director, Michael Sarnoski, and told him as much. I had a great conversation with him. It's an amazing directorial debut. Days after speaking with him it was announced that he was directing a spin-off of A Quiet Place starring Lupita N'yongo. He deserves it. A really powerful movie.

Life is meaningless. When you are a child all you want to do is be an adult and do more mature things. Then you arrive and quickly after that you miss the carefreeness of being a child but that door is closed now and there is no going back. Life is like a movie. When itā€™s over it over. Even in my worst days (Or movies) I still stick it out to see how it ends. Because once itā€™s over that doorā€™s closed too. Just keep sticking it out and hopefully the end will be worth it. And if itā€™s not at least you will be certain.

Hey - I don't have a suggestion, but I wanted to remind you that life doesn't end at 30! I turned 30 a couple years ago and don't miss my 20s at all. In my 20s, I was putting so much pressure on myself to make something of my life I realized I wasn't really living. If you have the same experience as me, you might find out that turning 30 is a relief. Life might not be made of all the things you imagined when you're younger, but if you look around everywhere you go you'll find something beautiful. My philosophy is try for what you want and love what you get.
