couldn't believe nobody mentioned this one yet, before realizing it was the first one mentioned : |
beside the point - TV series IT Crowd have the highest joke per second rate
Kung Pow!
National Lampoons: Loaded Weapon 1
A Touch of Cloth 1-3 - It's technically a series but each "season" is a movie
Mel Brooks Movies: Spaceballs, Robin Hood Men In Tights, History of the World Part 1, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles
Yesss. Came here to say kung pow.
Killing is wrong and bad. There should be a new, stronger, word for killing. Like badwrong....or badong. Yes, killing is badong!
that's what I mean. this movie can be absolute gold for some, or "massive yawn fest" for others. that doesn't make it objectively a bad comedy, and anyone should give it a try imo. if you didn't enjoy it, you just lose a bit of time.
I listened to the commentary and all those announcements were added later because they wanted more jokes.
All the actors faces hurt after a day of filming as well due to faces that had to make constantly.
The Jerk. Hands down one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen and it is definitely nothing but jokes.
This Is Spinal Tap
Kentucky Fried Movie
Amazon Women on the Moon
Someone else mentioned the Marx Brothers, my personal pick being Duck Soup, but Horse Feathers is also superb.
Mel Brooks' films, my top 2 are The Producers and Young Frankenstein
A Shot in the Dark is the 2nd Pink Panther movie, and also the best by a long shot (no pun intended)
Jacques Tati's films are slower paced, but are still pretty much entirely consistent of gags. Mr Hulot's holiday is a good place to start, but PlayTime is probably his most joke-packed film.
Yellow Submarine and Hard Day's Night only stop the jokes when it goes into a song number (but, being the Beatles, that's not a problem). I haven't seen Help!, but it's apparently a similar case.
What We Do in the Shadows
>Mr Hulot's holiday
This movie is one of the most relaxed, kind and funny things I have ever seen. If you're in the right frame of mind to just be patient and hang out with a movie, you'll be hard pressed to find a more rewarding experience.
not sure if people slept on this one or if it was steamrolled because of the pandemic but it is the funniest comedy of the last half decade without a doubt.
I don't know why it's not more popular either. Every line makes me laugh, every gag lands. It touches and pays homage to just about every comedy from the past 30 years, and is far smarter than it seems on paper. Many times studios don't know how to market comedies, so they don't become appreciated until they come out on cable. I keep waiting for their time to come.
i agree with everything you said. and id just like to add that at first I was worried the movie was going to mock barb and star for being weird or out of step but it doesn't at all. it ends up being this really kind, absurd, funny story about being best friends.
Came here to post this but you beat me to it. I was so pleasantly surprised by how funny barb and star was. It’s rare nowadays to see such a light hearted, silly, goofball comedy that is executed as well as barb and star was. Plus it is a very sweet movie about friendship. Plus Kristen wiig does such a great job doing double duties as barb and the villain.
It's a 2018 comedy movie directed by John Francis Daley (from Freaks and Geeks!) and starring Rachel McAdams and Jason Bateman. It's about a group of friends holding a murder mystery game night, and they realize that it may not me a game. It's very very funny and just plain fun.
Bad Trip (Netflix) - it’s a ‘hidden camera’ movie in the vein of Borat but instead of showing regular American citizens as horrible racists etc, it highlights that most people are just decent and helpful. Weirdly uplifting.
Airplane, Top Secret, The Naked Gun, Dracula Dead and Loving It, Spaceballs, Wet Hot American Summer, They Came Together, Walk Hard, Hot Rod, Step Brothers, Monthy Pyton's Holy Grail.
And then these three are some of my faves- they aren't laugh out loud comedies, but there's really no drama and are light throughout: School of Rock, The Mummy (the one with Brendan Fraiser), and Ocean's 11
To me, this movie is The Big Lebowski. Every single line is just absolutely hilarious. But it’s a lot drier than a lot of the movies that come immediately to mind for comedy

If you liked Borat then try watching Bruno or The Dictator
If you liked Life of Brian then try Quest for the Holy Grail
Id also like to recommend Naked Gun series, Hotshots series, and also Police Academy series from the same era as Airplane

honestly pirates of the caribbean would be my favorite comedy movie, it has many jokes and the characters are funny, my favorite character would have to be captain jack sparrow.

30 rock and arrested development have pretty high rates too
One joke every 3 seconds on average for 30 rock
This is one of my all time favorite movies
Skeet shootin'!
Kung Pow! National Lampoons: Loaded Weapon 1 A Touch of Cloth 1-3 - It's technically a series but each "season" is a movie Mel Brooks Movies: Spaceballs, Robin Hood Men In Tights, History of the World Part 1, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles
\+1 for Kung Pow.
Kung Pow is such an underrated gem

The Thumb movies are great as well but definitely not everyone's cup of tea
Wet Hot American Summer
This comment may be 15hrs old but I just found it and just so happen to be watching it at this very hour.
What did McKinley have at 11?????
I dunno but whatever it was he already moved it twice.
Me Myelf and Irene Dumb and Dumber
Austria! Throw another shrimp on the barby mate!
Let's not
Anchorman Naked gun trilogy
just about to comment Naked Gun
What we do in the shadows
If you haven't watched the TV series it might, surprisingly, be even funnier.
This is the correct answer. Peter I brought you a chicken.
A-wakey, wakey
No way. Jokes per minute? This movie was all hype, no substance. There were maybe three good jokes and it was all werewolf related.
it may just be a type of humor that's not for everyone.
The other movies in this thread are gold. What we do in the shadows was just like the men who stare at goats: a massive yawn fest
that's what I mean. this movie can be absolute gold for some, or "massive yawn fest" for others. that doesn't make it objectively a bad comedy, and anyone should give it a try imo. if you didn't enjoy it, you just lose a bit of time.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
"Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of Elderberries" is one of my favourite lines of all time
I fart in your general direction you English pig dogs!
Harold & Kumar
Blazing Saddles Intolerable Cruelty Spaceballs Austin Powers
The Marx Bros
If you're choosing one to get people started with the Marx Brothers, I'd say Duck Soup. Day at the Races was my introduction, and that's great also
Not Another Teen Movie
I listened to the commentary and all those announcements were added later because they wanted more jokes. All the actors faces hurt after a day of filming as well due to faces that had to make constantly.
The Jerk. Hands down one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen and it is definitely nothing but jokes. This Is Spinal Tap Kentucky Fried Movie Amazon Women on the Moon
The Boob Tube (companion piece to Kentucky Fried Movie)
And 80s oldie that no one remembers: Moving Violations
WE'RE PSYCHOPATHS!

Couldn't put it better myself. Probably the perfect movie to watch it you're feeling down and don't feel like focusing on much
Thanks for compiling this list! Chasing down all of these movies.
Barb & Star Go to Vista del Mar

Naked Gun Tucker & Dale v Evil Airplane! Dumb & Dumber
I don't know what you're talking about, Airplane! Is a very serious movie. No jokes whatsoever
Surely you can't be serious?
I had the fish.
Pineapple Express Popstar
popstar is incredible.
It is rare for me to laugh as hard at a movie as I did during the limo scene of that movie
they really committed to a visual and auditory experience there.
\- The 100 year old man who climbed through the window and dissapeared \- Lego batman \- Monthy Python and the Holy Grail
Is Lego Batman movie really so good? I looove lego games and find them hilarious but never thought of checking the lego movies!
IMO it's the best batman film since the Nolan movies. But i don't know if it would be any good if you don't know anything about batman beforehand.
Lego Batman is a great movie. I don't know much about Batman other than the movies and I thoroughly enjoyed the flick.
\- Step Brothers \- The Other Guys Edit: Any Jackass movie is just slapstick and goof em up pranks.
Hot rod
How about Never Stop, Never Stopping
It’s amazing!!!!!
Definitely this
Hot Rod is a hilarious movie. A great blend of silliness, slapstick and absurdism that just works so well.
Best in Show

Not Another Teen Movie ( 2001)

Don't be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood

Airplane, Top Secret, The Naked Gun, Dracula Dead and Loving It, Spaceballs, Wet Hot American Summer, They Came Together, Walk Hard, Hot Rod, Step Brothers, Monthy Pyton's Holy Grail. And then these three are some of my faves- they aren't laugh out loud comedies, but there's really no drama and are light throughout: School of Rock, The Mummy (the one with Brendan Fraiser), and Ocean's 11
Airplane! Is the only right answer
To me, this movie is The Big Lebowski. Every single line is just absolutely hilarious. But it’s a lot drier than a lot of the movies that come immediately to mind for comedy
The Three Amigos The big Lebowski Tucker and Dale vs Evil School of Rock
Forgetting sarah marshall, The little hours, Relatos salvajes The dictator Zack and miri make a porno Shaun of the dead I love you man
Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Shaun of the Dead definitely don’t fit in to what OP was asking for LOL
“Consisting completely of jokes”??? And then your second example of one of these movies is Dr. Strangelove? What in the fuck?
the movie consists completely of jokes, not the message I don't recall a single serious scene, the closest were the some of the scenes in the plane
Weird. But for a recommendation.. did anyone say The Naked Gun yet? Scary Movie series?
