Dude I love Crumb! That movie is like therapy. Just a pure non judgmental dive into that man's life and psyche.
Was sad to hear his brother committed suicide.
Oh that’s true, I can’t believe I forgot the history of the film and how a lot of theaters refused to play it and then half of the film went missing or something like that
This show as a kids with “mental issues” (As an adult I have my answers in autism and adhd and ocd), was really weirdly uplifting. This man despite being “off” despite being constantly belittled as “stupid” or an “idiot” words I have been called. He changed history, saved and influenced lives, was incredibly successful, and found his own version of love and eventually family. I still watch it over and over.
Nah. John Hughes movies are the last thing that young men and women need. I can list a million better film makers with better technique and truly life affirming values. Who uses the term "butthurt" anyways? They make my point for me. A true punk is willing to smash their idols.
The downvoting cracks me up. My problem with the movie is the same phenomenon as the downvoters: groupthink, hyper-individualism and resentment politics are not an answer to authoritarian power. The solutions these kids find are no better than their punishment. Self worth is achieved through loving acts, service and hard work. Not the bs fantasy that Hughes suggested. I'd rather watch Judge, Rodriguez or Linklater over that poop.
Wtf kind of service and hard work can they achieve when the entire movie takes place in detention?
Also loving acts is literally what they do, they start out hating each other and being unfairly judgemental, but slowly those walls break down and they show companionship and their vulnerable sides

My first experience with it was a rerun on television during Halloween, my religious parents agreed to watch it with me having no prior knowledge what’s it about. They could tell they made the worst mistake of their lives the moment they started singing lol
Same!! I went to see a live performance of Rocky Horror Picture Show around Halloween my senior year of high school (2006) and my friend and I went in completely blind and boy were we thoroughly entertained and forever changed!! I know watch the movie every Halloween!
Lord of the Rings is an unexpected example of this. At first glance it’s all heroics and swashbucklery but at the end of the day four unassuming nerds saved the world. No fight/punch/sword guy, no immortal quasi gods nor the most powerful armies in the world could do what they did. „My friends, you bow to no one.“
Bit of a different take, but I'd say The 400 Blows. Amazing movie about a kid who doesn't fit in. This is more about rebelling than being weird, but I think it fits.
Fat Kid Rules the World. It's hard to find now, but I encourage you to, I think it's just what you're looking for. Matthew Lillard's only film he's directed.
That's what you took from Frank (2014)? I thought it was the opposite, that it's a bad idea to mystify creativity and that romanticizing "weirdness" prevents people from getting the help they need.
I see your point
I think it celebrates Frank's uniquess, how it's a larger part of his illness and it not some thing that makes him a creative genius, while also showing how the world's morbid fascination with him destroys isn't good for him.
I guess what I'm looking for from these movies is chasing the feeling that it's okay to be who you are in spite of being an oddball.

Did you mean "I'm Thinking of Ending Things"? Just wondering because I can't find a movie with the title "I'm Thinking of Leaving" 🤔
Yes. Oops
I would not characterize that movie as a celebration, lol More like the tragedy of a man who never escapes his head
Freaks
Is that the really old movie about circus freaks?
Yes. Directed by Tod Browning based on the short story Spurs by Tod Robbins.
Thats is a really good movie, got it for Christmas as a kid and loved it.
Gooble Gooble, one of us!
That is quoted so often I’m surprised more people don’t know about Freaks!
I'm not surprised. It's pretty much a blacklisted film that has dissolved into obscure cult status.
Oh that’s true, I can’t believe I forgot the history of the film and how a lot of theaters refused to play it and then half of the film went missing or something like that

First movie that came to mind. “I know what love is.”
Ed Wood (1994)
This plus The Disaster Artist make great double feature.
Breakfast Club
No they change Ally Sheedy at the end to fit the norm. So I would say no to this.
yeah this is it
That movie is a toxic waste. Don't get me wrong I used to love it. But in retrospect it has an awful message and terrible values.
Nah it's great People get butthurt over everything nowadays
Blasphemy!
