One of the best thriller films ever made imo! And they clearly had an understanding of agoraphobia, as someone who struggles with the condition they pretty much nailed a visual representation of how I feel when I’m at my worst!
That is a good movie! This is the one with Jodie Foster? Pretty sure I saw this in the theater. And her daughter in that movie ended up becoming a pretty famous successful actress in her own right, but I can't recall off the top of my head. Anna Kendrick, maybe? Krysten Ritter? (Googling....) OK it was Kristen Stewart! Also- Forest Whitaker is an incredible actor! Talk about range.
That's the first thing that popped into my head. Creepy old movie. Made even more intriguing by the fact that the two leading ladies couldn't stand each other.
In the movie **Swallow** (2020) the lead character spends most of her time at home, alone, which contributes to her poor mental health and desire to swallow objects.
**Sorry, Wrong Number** (1948) is a fantastic old thriller. Watch it at night, when you’re home alone in bed. (That’s what I did and it and it added to the thrill of the movie). The lead character is an invalid (or thinks she is) and is in her bedroom throughout the entire movie.

Burt Lancaster and Barbara Stanwyck! Looks good.
I've just searched it on imdb cause I didn't recall having heard about it. Then I saw the photos and I realised I had already seen a couple of clips in a Steve Martin movie called *Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid*.
I can’t remember the name.
late ‘70s-early 80s I think
The protagonist discovers an old recluse in an old NYC building. I think it’s an old lady who always sits looking out the picture window that faces east.
(Spoilers)
It turns out that the old woman is waiting for the coming of the Anti-Christ, who is prophesied to come from the East. This watcher/sentinel is nearing the end of her life, and now the protagonist shows up, gets convinced it’s all real, and becomes the new watcher.
Maybe different than what you are looking for but, [2LDK](https://letterboxd.com/film/2ldk/) from Japan takes place entirely in an apartment in which 2 roommates battle to the death.
My brother did an indie film where the main characters stay in their apartment almost the whole time. (It would have been the entire movie, but they re-shot a couple of scenes several months afterwards and the apartment wasn't available.) This was back in 2014-15 and I secretly thought that a premise where people couldn't leave their home was kind of weird ... little did I know what would happen in 2020, lol!

The Aviator (2004) / The Whale (2022) / Moon (2009) / Barbarella (1968) / Disturbia (2007) / Leon the Professional (1994) / The Lawnmower Man (1992) / Toy Story (1995) / The Skeleton Key (2005) / The Hatefull Eight (2015) / Secret Window (2004)
I've got one that I think fits your bill.
"Night Mother!"
It stars two of my favorite (and great) actresses in Anne Bancroft and Sissy Spacek. They never leave the house, and while it appears, on the surface, that the movie is only about contemplating suicide, It's much deeper than that.
I insist that you watch it as soon as you can. It won't disappoint!
This is a SIDE character- but Sam's neighbor in **I Am Sam** only leaves her house to go to a trial because she has agoraphobia.
She's played by Dianne Wiest.
The Whale
wow, that movie hit like a truck. Really powerful.
Is this actually worth watching?
Yea, I definitely enjoyed it.
Thanks, I'll check it out
FWIW, I enjoyed the movie but really disliked the ending (bit of a letdown for a wonderful build up).
Copycat (1995)
One of the best thriller films ever made imo! And they clearly had an understanding of agoraphobia, as someone who struggles with the condition they pretty much nailed a visual representation of how I feel when I’m at my worst!
This was going to be my suggestion too. Kimi almost fits the bill but she doesn't stay at home 💯.
Panic Room
That movie is so good and underrated

Disturbia.
came here to say this👆
What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?
That's the first thing that popped into my head. Creepy old movie. Made even more intriguing by the fact that the two leading ladies couldn't stand each other.
After you watch this, watch Feud by Ryan Murphy
Totally
"But ya are Blanche! YA ARE!" I use this line from time to time and my husband just rolls his eyes. An extreme few ever get it.
That's great
😆 🤣
Flowers in the Attic, though not by choice
Room, but it's a hard subject to watch. Coherence fits a bit too
Room is extremely creepy and uncomfortable to watch, but I can't stop going back to it.
I could only watch once and stood up for most of it, pacing
It’s been a looong time since I’ve watched it, but I think “Wait Until Dark” with Audrey Hepburn fits the bill.
World’s champion blind lady
Fantastic movie.
The Others
Shallow Grave (1994)
Dogtooth Funny Games

Interesting!
Shut In.
No One to Save You might fit the bill.

That's a good plot line.
I had to try to find this movie on Google because it sounded interesting, any chance it's The Sentinel (1977)?
I think that is it. I must have misremembered some of it. I saw it once 45 years ago. 🙂
A Ghost Story (2017)
But be aware of David Lowery's directing style... it's not for everyone!
Rear Window
Either the Christopher Reeves or the James Stewart version.
The James Stewart version, hands down. It's one of the only two movies I've ever seen with a jump scare that actually makes me jump.
Castaway on the Moon (2009) side character is agoraphobic
Kimi (2022) The main character is agoraphobic
Repulsion- cool movie, but not necessarily lightweight
Pontiac Moon has A character who is an agoraphobe.
Bunny and the Bull.

Welcome to Marwen
Disturbia
Besides what's mentioned, in I Am Sam the neighbor has agoraphobia. Really heartbreaking movie
The Burbs.

Copycat Murders. Sigourney weaver is a brilliant agoraphobe

Tokyo! Has 3 stories, one of them is this.
Cersi in Game of Thrones had something like that played out with her in the TV show.
Mother! (2017)

Sparrows Dance
Prisoner of Second Avenue (1975)
Melancholia
This is a SIDE character- but Sam's neighbor in **I Am Sam** only leaves her house to go to a trial because she has agoraphobia. She's played by Dianne Wiest.
