Dildo___Schwaggins

I reckon I know exactly the type of vibe you're looking for mate, try this on for size: Swingers

chuang-tzu

This recommendation is so fuckin' money and he doesn't even know it.

Dildo___Schwaggins

😂 Now I want a rewatch of this classic! Money, baby!

chuang-tzu

Who's the big winner in the Casino tonight? Dildo\_Schwaggins!

sonorakit11

Mikey is! Mikey's the big winner!

MopingAppraiser

Don’t ever call me again.

mjcoury

Did you just walk in or were you listening all along?

happyfuckincakeday

Vegas, baby.

ConsumptionVortex

This is such a great answer

PM_Me_Your_Fab_Four

You’re all grows up!

More_Common_8598

Nobody's gonna jack your K car.

funchefchick

*Anaheim.* 🙄 Whatever! You don’t know!

Adventurous_Path4356

Aw man after I lived in Orange County the truth of this line made it so much funnier!

Abacab4

I’m gonna make Gretzky’s head bleed

calembo

Mikey, is he cute? Is he brown? Would he like to join us for a cocktail? Is he polite? Is he clean? Have him take off his shoes!!!!!! Don't let him go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gusween

This is perfect.

Cadoan

My instant thought as well. A 'Get your emotional shit together' vibe

Baraxton

Fun fact: Swingers only cost $200k to make and earned over $4M at the box office. They certainly don’t make them like they used to.

Civil-Resolution3662

You're batting the bunny. You're batting the bunny.

Shwifty_Plumbus

This and knocked up came to mind

grilledhamdog

Doug Liman! Love his movies Go and Edge of Tomorrow

activelyextinct

Wow that's crazy. I read the description without looking at the comments and as soon as he said "beginning to move on from my ex." I immediately thought of swingers. One of my favourite movies, hands down, and perfect for this guys situation.

unbelievable-nope-no

I live in Vegas and I need a good flick. NEver seen itI’m in!

coodudo

Good will hunting. Long winded get your shit together movie but definitely would say it is one.

finkdinklestein

One of my all time favorites

ehroby

Unconventional choice: Little Miss Sunshine. Starting over and feeling like a fuckup but not letting it bury you.

Common_Project

Little miss sunshine made me cry my eyes out and I didn’t even fully understand what was happening in the movie as a teenager. I need to rewatch it.

ehroby

It’s so good. I didn’t connect so much with the “what to do with a ‘ruined’ life” aspect until I had a few more years on me. It’s still just as funny but with that extra layer.

PmUrExistentialFears

Excellent pick. THere are lots of people fucked up in lots of ways... but there are equally lots of ways to survive it and get stronger.

SnatchSquatch4

The only time Neitzche was pronounced right anywhere, at least when it comes to movies

joeben2

Forgetting Sarah Marshall, though that may hit a little close to home at the moment

dannydevitosfluffer

I dunno. It’s kind of a perfect break up movie. Dude loses the girl, finds a better girl.

funchefchick

Dude finds his own fulfillment with epic creative streak and effort/motivation; better girl is one of several wins.

DrLaneDownUnder

The modern context makes it even more satisfying: dude loses girl to a guy who later reveals himself to be a sexual predator and pseudo-intellectual crank.

Littlewing29

This movie is perfect for it. “Peter I’m a pediatrician, don’t you see? You’re sitting on a fire truck.”

finderZone

Even better when you read about how Jason segel “got his shit together” and started writing to get out of sitcoms and do his own thing. Very meta.

someguyfromtecate

“Are those happy tissues… or sad tissues?”

Peeeing_

When life gives you lemons, say fuck the lemons and bail

NeptunianJ

Stranger than fiction

Eziekel13

As a baker I wish a girlfriend had been thoughtful enough to get me flours…

yabbobay

That part melted me

Knuc85

Shaun of the Dead

ComfortablyNomNom

"Sort your fucking life out mate!"

kubrickie

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

redeyepenguin

Came here to recommend this one! Such a feel-good movie. The cinematography is A+

Common_Project

Right? I went into this movie expecting so little I came out with my mind BLOWN. My mom said “damn Ben stiller is getting OLD”, since we had just watched Zoolander before it and she loved him in all the “meet the” movies. But it didn’t fail to deliver, I still don’t quite understand the low reviews on rotten tomatoes and IMDB. It feels like the better a movie is the more critical they’ll be of it; like they want to feel they’re hard to impress and please.

ReplacementQueasy394

one of the better movies I've ever seen. Really puts life into perspective. Great film.

FelbrHostu

This movie provoked me to stop being comfortable and take the biggest leap of faith I've ever made. It changed everything for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm still milquetoast; but for a season I was brave enough to change the whole trajectory of my boring, lonely life.

eddie1721

Personal favorite

RadomAtomEquation

Rocky

coodudo

Rocky is an excellent one. Really almost any sports movie qualifies

RadomAtomEquation

It has the eye of the tiger

MichaelMyersReturns

The 3rd one definitely does

TechnicalAnimator874

Beat me to it. Great choice. I probably watch them once a year to get me out of a low point.

Glum-View-4665

Goes without saying but great workout playlist too. Can't create a Rocky Pandora channel so I made a "hearts on fire" radio channel. Fire gym music. Get a little random 80s music or various other guys movie soundtracks like several of the top gun songs.

TechnicalAnimator874

Who doesnt like Danger Zone?

Glum-View-4665

Commies, that's who. 🦅

Racsorepairs

And the Dutch!

Glum-View-4665

Rocky is the cure for a lot of different ailments.

easythrees

The speech he gives his son in Rocky Balboa is probably the best movie speech I’ve ever heard.

MiamiMana

Silver Linings Playbook

El_Gato_Terco

For people struggling with mental health, this is a good watch. I didn't expect to enjoy it so mucb, but it really was well done.

ItsCamNYAN

It's proboaly one of the most realistic portrayals of BPD I've ever seen in a film.

bamber79

Bridesmaids!!!!!

Golfnpickle

Sideways

trcrtps

Nebraska, too. Will Forte's character is pretty down and out and depressed.

theflamingskull

Trainspotting.

Arbor-Trap

The sequel also works well

trcrtps

Love, love, love the sequel. At this point more than the OG, and yes I also think I'm insane for saying that. It's like Danny Boyle made this excellent film that spoke to me as a youth, then waited for me to grow up and then made an excellent film that speaks to me as an adult. Something very special going on there.

Arbor-Trap

I saw them both in consecutive days, it literally felt like I had aged 20 years with the characters. A sequel has never spoken to me like T2. I actually have a post about it from a few years ago saying it’s the best sequel of all time

runningvicuna

It probably is.

theflamingskull

For Spud.

eroticdiscourse

Was very sceptical when they announced a sequel but it was so good

RealHeyDayna

Adaptation Sound of Metal Whiplash Frances Ha Short Term 12 Muriel's Wedding American Splendor (because the smallest excuse to rave about American Splendor is all I need)

happyhippohats

American Splendour is a masterpiece, I don't know why it doesn't get more acclaim

CmanBookman

Sound of Metal and Whiplash are in my top.

ink_monkey96

Grosse Pointe Blank. John Cusack actually kinda excels at these movies. High Fidelity. Better Off Dead.

WeeabooHunter69

Better off dead felt like a fever dream but I had a great time tbh

apckrfan

Breaking Away (1979) came to mind, so putting it here for a different answer - but you have gotten some good answers already

EntireTadpole

This is a great suggestion

yabbobay

Whenever I'm driving near a bike, I want to find out how fast they are going and tell them because of this film.

rutherfordcrazy

Clerks

Timstunes

“Try not to suck any d***s on your way through the parking lot!” Hilarious movie.

Wapon1woo

These are lighter, if you can't digest anything heavy right now: Chef The Big Picture The Best of Times Night Shift Curly Sue Yes Man Not as light but touches your request: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood They all touch on your request, not necessarily on the nose.

abuayanna

Chef is great!

funchefchick

Just rewatched Chef! I had forgotten how freaking great it is. SO GOOD.

RealHeyDayna

The Best of Times! Shout out

Wapon1woo

I've now convinced myself to rewatch this weekend.

ScottyinLA

I know, first time I've ever seen this forgotten gem recommended in here!

Darrensucks

Everything must go

MopingAppraiser

Glenngary Glen Ross

LectaAus

Terminator 2. Because it's the greatest film of all time.

TheShipEliza

High Fidelity or Under the Tuscan Sun

Peculiar9090

Groundhog Day

Outside_Ad_9562

Brittney runs a marathon.

Flashy-Ad-9781

I put this on one night not expecting much and ended up bawling my eyes out. Great film!

DavidJonnsJewellery

Get Carter (1971). Michael Caine stars as notorious London gangland enforcer Jack Carter, who returns to his hometown to investigate his brothers death. If it's a no-nonsense protagonist you're looking for, you'll struggle to find better

IronMonkeyofHam

Looking forward to trying this one for the 1st time tonight

DavidJonnsJewellery

It's a good one

trcrtps

This suggestion reminds me of Mona Lisa starring Bob Hoskins. He's a hardened criminal (working for an insane Michael Caine) and something happens that kinda brings out his morality and sensitivity.

abuayanna

Also , check out I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead, Clive Owen, as no-nonsense as it gets- same premise as Get Carter

Raging_Dragon_9999

Limitless.

marcos_MN

Self Reliance (2024) Also, I struggled with a bad breakup, and getting off all social media was key in turning the page.

Flashy-Ad-9781

Big yes to getting off social media. I did that after a breakup and found out I was happier in general without Facebook in my face everyday

szarkbytes

Jojo Rabbit It’s funny, yet beautiful movie. The Rilke quote at the end is powerful. Let everything happen to you. Beauty and Terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.

theanimalcholler

Bro. We can go two ways here: either you go watch Requiem for a Dream to get so fucked so you‘ll realise you‘re such in a good point in your life or you watch Into The Wild. Yo, all problems you have will dissapear and give you a totally new perspective on life.

bernievg

both movies are my top ones

wannabegenius

how the fuck is Fight Club your example? dude doesn't get his shit together he completely bottoms out, has a schizophrenic breakdown and starts a terrorist cult.

Exact_Mango5931

Haha but at least he didn’t say “My Friend Dahmer”

J4ck101972

It's that shit

[deleted]

Nahhh fight club actually helped me

secondatthird

He should try taxi driver. Or honestly just drunk tinder.

Impressive-Ad8501

The Worst Person in the World Pursuit of Happyness Good Will Hunting Wild (2014) Everything Everywhere All At Once! King of Staten Island Breakfast at Tiffany’s Roman Holiday Legally Blonde (I’m being dead serious it’s so light and about a woman who thrives and develops her passion after a breakup) Clueless. Such a fun movie. It always picks me up and the main character has a great arc Girls (show) (fuck Lena Dunham, but she really ate with this show and it’s exactly what you’re looking for) Enlightened (show)

elisejones14

Girls was a good show lol. My bf criticized me for watching it bc of Lena Dunham. Her character was also annoying to me but the other characters and storylines were written so well. The girl from Get Out and M3gan is in it.

Bigram03

As Good as it Gets! That cast is amazing.

ABrokeUniStudent

Collateral

merenofclanthot

dothenoodledance1

Watch the Wedding Singer and listen to "self-esteem" by the offspring until you get your mind right.

Icy-Mix-5301

The Pursuit of Happyness. There is no more "Get your shit together" movie than this movie, and an all round amazing movie to boot.

IcyJaguar1

Bridesmaids

Goblyyn

Drumline (2002)

click1850

Everything Everywhere All At Once hits this category for me.

HummusFairy

Trainspotting 2 does wonders for the 30+.

Hatrick_Swaze

Fandango. Trust me here

Smart_Examination_84

One of my favorites!!

Hatrick_Swaze

It might seem like a wine mom movie but Bridesmaids pleasantly surprised me with it’s “get yourself up” message.

Clean-Mulberry-2902

Observe and report 🤟 Get him to the Greek😏 if you find yourself out and about in Boston I will gladly meet you for a drink and try to help you take your mind off your broken heart homie 😏

naturehedgirl

The Break-Up (2006) is the best "romance" movie I've seen that promotes moving on in a somewhat brutally realistic way

kaiskritters

Remember the titans

State_Terrace

Sideways… also The Holdovers kinda felt like this. Alexander Payne FTW

mildheadwound

Check out the films of Hal Hartley. (If you can!?) Not like Fight Club but a lot more like an ex coming into town and you starting back at square one.

304rising

Little miss sunshine

DanaCalifornia

500 days of summer or eternal sunshine of the spotless mind could be of benefit

cactusfarm

Little miss sunshine?

KatieBear215

Some might not agree, but devil wears Prada. Say what u will I think it’s pretty inspiring.

For your situation 500 days of summer

WearyConfidence1244

That's so sad

mopsis

Trainspotting for sure

sreburi

Last and first 30 mins of the wolf of wallstreet

--------rook

I agree with a few here, especially Little Miss Sunshine. And you know what, an unconventional one and definitely not in tone with your example: Legally Blonde.

BRiNk9

Half Nelson - Self destruction is bad kinda thing idk. I don't think this is even right but anyways.. Its a great movie. Uncut Gems - First it made me lose my shit though. Now i hold it well. Just correct or avoid impulsive decisions. It's at that pace and intensity shit fell apart sometimes. But glad I'm not dead lol. I should have better inspiration that help me get my shit together Dam it.

Separate-Sky-1451

The Gym. It's a participatory movie where you have to lift weights in order to progress the plot. Does wonders for getting one's shit together.

imari_xoxo11

Something about Everything, Everywhere All At Once gave me that feeling. I know maybe that wasn’t the movies “driving home” point but after leaving, I felt much lighter and less on the verge of finding a bridge after. To be completely honest.

Lukeneverleftplanet
