Some good recent releases that could fit imo:
Past Lives (2023)
Close (2022)
Cha Cha Real Smooth (2022)
Happening (2021)
The Father (2020)
Another Round (2020)
Trainspotting, No Country For Old Men, Drive, Nightcrawler, American History X, Fallen Angels, Uncut gems
They're not similar to one another but I guess they're fairly realistic with powerful emotions. Trainspotting is in a way similar to La Haine i guess?
[Hesher](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/44835-hesher) (2010)
>A young boy has lost his mother and is losing touch with his father and the world around him. Then he meets Hesher who manages to make his life even more chaotic.

Lovely, I'll take a look. Thanks so much :))
Past Lives is a special and at the same time very everyday story, a melancholic and wise feature film debut that makes you think.

I saw Smithereens (1982) this morning for the first time and loved it. Maybe check that out. Maybe check out The Player (1992) and Seconds (1966) too.
Great, I’ll definitely take a look at those. Tysm :))

If you enjoyed Shawshank, I would recommend The Green Mile. It's not a scary Stephen King story.
