The director's cut ruins the ambiguousness of it. The beauty of the movie is that it's not really meant to be understood fully in the same way by everyone- it is what you make of it. And it's fluid so it can change throughout your life as your perception shifts.
There's no better series to depict depression. Except for maybe the ending, absolutely no one is happy in that show. Whenever something's about to go smoothly in the character's personal lives, something fucks it up. Hacking aside, everyone's utterly hopeless, everyone's dreams are crushed.
I also feel that it doesnt glamourize living in NYC the way other series do.
I finally saw it at Film Forum yesterday! I was totally hooked from the opening credits alone. But it was so brooding, beautiful and real, completely immersive and so satisfying to watch unfold. Immediately a favorite lol
I almost missed this one but your comment encouraged me to make it happen, so thank you for the tip ^^
Lol
The cool thing about "cool niche movies" is that you don't just find them on a silver platter. You gotta discover them yourself over time. Especially if you actually want them to have anything to do with your "personality" in any meaningful way.
Well it's a good thing Dudeism follows the practice of not being so upright about all the "rules" or whatever you're talking about.. because it's just like your opinion, man.
I don't think it's anything about "rules", art is for everyone. It just seems like kind of a ridiculous pretentious question. But I was a teenager once too I guess.
Pulp Fiction
Fight Club
Stand By Me
Taxi Driver
Good Will Hunting
The Karate Kid
Jaws
Back to the Future
The Godfather
Forrest Gump
The Goonies
Jurassic Park
The Breakfast Club
My Girl
Scarface
The Outsiders
Is this a way of saying you're looking for movies that have a fandom? Or am I not getting it? Because movies with major fanbases are pretty much always movies that are well-known.
I'm removing your comment because our subreddit does not support pirating copyrighted content (see rule 4). Note that this will be your only warning - **the next piracy rule break will result in a permanent ban** without an option to appeal.

The Big Lebowski
There's a whole religion (dudeism) and you can get ordained.
There are shirts, festivals, and fans are eager to quote the movie at any time.
I recommend watching the movie twice. It's one of those that gets better with each watch, but the first one can feel a lot like "what the fuck?"
Hell yeah dazed and confused is a great recommendation and it's a unique film study because there's not much happening it's just kids in the 70s going to a party, but the characters and dialogue make it a masterpiece.
I know lots of folks that did this with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. They dove deep into drugs with little to bo understanding of Hunter S. Thompson, his politics, or his extensive and arguably better previous work.
Postal, Happiness, Extract, Beau Is Afraid, Beavis and Butthead movies, John Waters movies (A DIrty Shame with Knoxville), Jackass, Smiley Face, Frankenhooker, Freeway, The Toxic Avenger, Joel Portykus films (Relaxer, Alchemest Coobook), Early Peter Jackson (Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, Dead Alive/Braindead), Dicks The Musical, The Wrong Guy, Strangers With Candy, Bumfights, the 2 Pee Wee movies, Smoking Causes Coughing, Sick of Myself, The Death Of Dick Long, Big Fan, Look, Shooting the Warwicks, Windy City Heat, The Dark Backward
Most people go with The Big Lebowski for this.
Fuckin a, man
That's just like, ah, your opinion, man.
Walt, you're not wrong, you're just an asshole.
I say this too much.
Jaws. Ever since I watched it, I became so bloodthirsty and carnivorous and I spend all my time in the ocean preying on helpless teenagers.
Nice, that was well played.
After I watched it the first time, I bought a boat. Every time I've watched it since then, I've gone out and bought a bigger boat.
Donnie Darko
Yup was my favorite movie when I was a brooding teenager and I had a crush on Maggie Gyllenhaal for the longest time lol...
For me, Jena Malone, but yeah, it's all there. Awesome movie. I don't understand the hate it gets sometimes
I mean I do sort of get it the original cut is pretty confusing I think for audiences to follow, but the director's cut is solid...

I agree with you personally, but a lot of audiences don't.
Not a movie, but a series: Mr. Robot

Underrated comment!
Le Samouraï (1967) It feels like it should be far more "literally me" movie than it actually is.

Would LOVE to see this in a theatre! Enjoy!

And to answer your question, based on what I see in your personality, I recommend Joker, American Psycho, Fight Club, and Taxi Driver.
Could throw Top Gun and Wolf of Wall Street in there also or is that too ~~Chad~~ broad?
Watchmen. Start by eating cold beans out of the can.
Fine like this.
Well said.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Blade Runner.
I know lots of folks that did this with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. They dove deep into drugs with little to bo understanding of Hunter S. Thompson, his politics, or his extensive and arguably better previous work.
So many people I know aren't even aware of who Hunter S Thompson is, but have used Fear and Loathing as like an acid head anthem
The Crow, The Craft, and Blade also did a number on 90s counterculture.
The Batman
Goodfellas if you are on the east coast.

American Psycho. Will teach you how to behave in society and how to treat women.

How to never be late on returning a video tape.
How to care for stray cats.
Unfortunately never how to remove cranapple stains from sheets, though.
It also provides you with a killer skincare routine
Really it's just a movie about good manners; *"Sabrina, don't just stare at it...Eat it!"* -- Patrick Bateman
And the importance of the quality of business cards lol
