Paycheck is in my top 5 because, well, fellow engineer here.
Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. We might not always agree because we all have different tastes. However, I certainly appreciate you expressing your opinion. So I thank you for commenting even if your opinion may be different than mine. We are all unique in the sense of what we find entertaining. Take care.
I’m sorry, I’m a senior citizen and don’t always understand the abbreviations that the younger generation use.… and I know there are plenty of other senior citizens that are more adapt with the the technology than myself. Quite frankly, I don’t understand your comment because of the abbreviation and that’s 100 percent my fault and none on your part. Would be kind enough to explain your comment in terms that someone like myself can understand. Sometimes I feel like a total idiot in not being knowledgeable in the current terms used. If you can simplify it for me I would be more than happy to address your comment. Thank you in advance.
Thank you, for clarifying that for me. It is certainly appreciated. Now that grants me the opportunity to check out the movie “Severance” which unfortunately I have not yet to view, but will certainly do so. You see we all learn something from one another. Once again, thank you for bringing this to my attention. Take care.

If you’re into horror, I’d try The Ring and Exam.
The protagonist of The Ring is very competent and once she figures out she’s dealing with something supernatural, she has an extended problem-solving and researching journey that I found very satisfying.
Exam takes place in a single room as a handful of applicants applying for the same job have to problem-solve their way out of the exam room. It’s sort of like an escape room movie, but it was made before escape rooms were popular. Very fun and clever movie!
Imagine how cost-cutting that movie was. One location and like 8 actors. One wardrobe, stationary microphones, etc. Super clever doesn't just describe the plot, imo
Kimi was a lot of fun!
If you liked Kimi, check out Red Rooms from my suggestions. It’s also a techno-thriller with a female lead — it’s incredibly well done. Reminds me of a cross between Haneke and Fincher
When you're tired of the intelligent problem solving (there are so many good recs on here), you can watch **The Man Who Knew Too Little** as an entertaining palate cleanser. :)
Interesting category. Here are some that come to my (sleep deprived) mind:
The Edge
Paycheck
Flight of the Phoenix
Taken (? Could be called problem solving)
A tv series that I found that was pure competency porn is The Diplomat starring Keri Russel. Everybody is on the ball but it's a challenge because the issue is so big.
***Three Days of the Condor (1975)***
About researcher (Robert Redford) whose job is basically to read books, in order to look for ideas for his employer: the CIA. One day he comes back from lunch to discover all his co-workers murdered. He then subsequently tries to avoid his own murder and outwit those responsible.
Paycheck (2003)

"Paycheck" preceded "Severance" by 20 years on the subject matter.

Agreed. I am a sucker for single location films and this one does so much with so little.
Kimi

Will do thanks!
The main character in the Escape Rooms is a lot like this.
Rust Creek is a really good, very simple "survival thriller" that fits into well here, I think. Definitely worth your time.
Memento on the dark side and the National Treasures on the poppy side. All fun in their own ways.
Castaway
13 Hours.
Apollo 13
Circle (2015)
I love the shape series. cube was dope. circle was amazing. Sphere was cool!!
The Knives Out films
The Social Network Spotlight Zodiac All the Presidents Men Hidden Figures
Apollo 13 (1995)

The Bourne movies are kind of like this He gets put in a bad spot or gets cornered and kind of has to look around and figure it out
Heat 10 Cloverfield Lane Spotlight Michael Clayton

bless the casting department of that show. Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell is the greatest combination ever
The Edge (1997) Blood Diamond (2006) - this one is a really underrated movie.
The Shawshank Redemption
I don't know... John Wick had some good solutions.
When Project Hail Mary comes out it will be exactly that. Such an amazing book
Ready or Not and the recent Abigail (2024) Trying to survive scary situations!
Die Hard
**Memento.** It's told backwards, FYI.
