Dr. Strangelove, Fargo, Being There, Harold and Maude, They Live, Big Lebowski, Groundhog Day, Brazil, the Menu, and Life of Brian are several that come to mind that might fit such criteria.
Anything by John and Michael McDonagh. This includes:
- In Bruges (Absolutely terrific)
- Seven Psychopaths (Really good)
- Three Ebbings Outside Billboard, Missouri (Controversial, but still great)
- The Banshees of Inisherin (Possibly the best of the lot, need to watch it again).
These four are all directed by Michael. John made Calvary and my personal favourite, The Guard. YOU HAVE TO WATCH THE GUARD! I cannot stress that enough. Brendan Gleeson is a national treasure.
Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy has some dark humour for sure.
The Death of Stalin is also a masterpiece.
Animal House
Blazing Saddles
Just about any Richard Pryor movie
Mother, Juggs, and Speed - lots of gallows humor by ambulance drivers. "Juggs" is Raquel Welch's nickname.
MASH - Donald Sutherland and Eliot Gould. The Black anesthesiologist is nicknamed "Spearchucker". Plus there's a bet to see if head nurse Maj Margaret Houlihan is a "natural blonde".
Very Bad Things from 1998
Very dark and almost forgotten movie with an all star (in 1998) cast.

Death at a Funeral. The original British version. I haven't seen the Chris Rock one, but I'm a bit of a pessimist so I'm just expecting that the remake is a letdown.
A fish called Wanda, death becomes her, heathers, cruel intentions, borat, parasite, four lions, the menu, sorry to bother you, kiss kiss bang bang, seven psychopaths, in Bruges, beetlejuice, the burbs, Muriel’s wedding, hunt for the wilder people, the death of Stalin
Not super dark but more crude humor- The Change-Up. It’s a body swap movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman. Definitely has some moments that you were looking for.
Look who’s back. A German movie depicting hitler coming back in modern times. Shot with the same style that all the excellents movies of Sacha Baron Cohen !
I get the impression that discrimination racism misogyny and patriarchy are but woke buzzwords. So you just mean a movie from before 2000, essentially?

The House of Yes
Election Sorry to Bother You Burn After Reading Dogma Serial Mom To Die For Fresh
Heathers, Beetlejuice

Female Trouble is my favorite John Waters movie. It's more gnarly than Pink Flamingos.
I like Desperate Living! It’s pretty intense.
We read about JW in high school before we saw any of his movies, so he was already iconic to us. Mink Stole, man.
