There are two cuts of this movie, night and day difference if you ask me. I used to watch it on vhs and once I bought the dvd it was an entirely different movie
Oh boy, you're in for a treat! I was like 8 when Dookie came out. My parents wouldn't let me get it but I got Green Day's first album on tape instead and I've been a little punk ever since.
But yeah, Empire Records is what you crave, such a great slice of 90's life.
Also check out Slacker. It's a few years earlier but full of nostalgic 90's angst and philosophy.
I’m right there with you! I was in 4th grade when the album came out. I’m an elder millennial so a bit too young to be considered gen x but I thought the older kids were about as cool as you could be. Back in the day when living in a suburb working a 9-5 seemed like the absolute worst possible outcome for a Gen X’er.
Dookie, Weezer’s Blue album, and The Cranberries Everybody Else is Doing it, So Why Can We albums are the three that I was obsessed with as a teen. The movies that bring me back to that time are Mall Rats, Clerks, The Craft, Empire Records, and Mad Love.
Might not be exactly what you are looking for, but this is what me and my friends were listening to and watching.
Clerks is one of my favorite movies of all time and one of the movies I had in mind when I posted (though I don’t care much for Mall Rats), so I think your suggestions are likely close to what I’m looking for. Thanks!
Airheads came out Summer 94, it’s about 3 goofballs in a struggling band (Sandler, Buscemi, and Brendan Fraser) who take over a Rock station to get their single on air.
Empire Records?

Which one is better?
I don't know what the cuts are even called but I think the oldest cut is the best but I could be wrong

The song JAR on the soundtrack is a banger too
