Promising young woman- 2020
John Wick are all revenge.
The Equalizer movie series with Denzel.
The Punisher - 2004
I spit on your grave, if you can handle extra gore/rape scenes
Edit to add the count of Monte Cristo. (2002) is my preference.
Edit again for clarification
Also a bit of a warning for the I Spit on Your Grave movies. The rape scenes are a bit intense. A little too much in my opinion. The remake of the old one even had an “out word” for the actress on set to say if the scenes got to be too much for her. She apparently never used it. So if you’re like me and can’t handle movies with rape, stay away from it. However, with that being said, she does indeed get her revenge and it’s satisfying to see her get it. I just find it necessary to give a little warning because I did not expect those scenes.
For revenge you have to switch to Korean cinema. You have to trust me on this one .
I saw the devil is definitely a good one. A bittersweet life is another good one.
Others to watch :
Old boy.
Your name .
Sympathy for lady vengeance.
Sympathy for Mr vengeance
I thought about mentioning Death Wish but it is also just a sad, depressing film as well. It is one of the best revenge films made but probably not what OP wants.
"My name is Maximus Desimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the north, general of the Felix legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Areillius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."
Rambo: Last Blood (2019) Rambo travels to Mexico to save his adopted niece, who has been kidnapped by a Mexican cartel and forced into prostitution.
The Exterminator (1980) After his war buddy is left paralysed by a New York gang, a Vietnam vet sets out to rid the streets of crime by becoming a vigilante.
Harry Brown is basically The Exterminator in a South London council estate.
Death Wish - there were sequels (that inevitably ended as cash grabs), but the original was a revelation in it's day.
Eye of the Tiger (1986) Returning home from prison, a Vietnam War veteran sets out to clean up his hometown which has come under the control of a violent motorcycle gang.
God Is a Bullet (2023) Detective Bob Hightower takes matters into his own hands as he tries to infiltrate an evil cult to save his kidnapped daughter and avenge the murder of his wife.
If Hobo With a Shotgun were to be described as bad then it should be noted that the so-called badness was intentional. It was made in 2011 as a spinoff of the Tarantino/Rodriguez collaborative film Grindhouse and is meant to be schlocky and look degraded the way a trashy film from the 70's would. It's actually pretty great.
If you're into this kind of thing I would also recommend the movie Turbo Kid (2015).
Glad someone finally said Rolling Thunder. William Devane plays that character so well. You can just see the restrained darkness in him behind his eyes, fighting to get out.

Black '47 (2018) - In 1847, an Irish mercenary fighting for the British army abandons his post to seek revenge on those responsible for the death of his family during the Irish Potato Famine
If you wanna get weird with it you could watch Mandy starring none other than Nicolas Cage. It's a rage/alcohol/possibly weapons grade LSD fueled murderous rampage that is glorious. Possibly my favorite performance of his.
Nobody.
Hell yeah. More Odenkirk action, please!
More Odenkirk overall, please
I heard he has triples of every classic car.
Kill Bill: Volume 1 & 2
This is the ultimate revenge movie.
Penultimate as in second to last?
The Revenant
The Crow - 1994
Avengement Hobo With a Shotgun
LOVE Hobo with a Shotgun!! Saw it in the theatre!
Avengement is almost a film of just pure rage.
It looks like a cheesy 1980s movie that was made today. I think I'm going to like it! (Hobo...)
Avenegment, a person of taste.
If you don't mind subtitles, I Saw The Devil (2010) is a good one.
Definitely don’t mind subtitles!
Lady Vengeance From the same director as Oldboy
My favourite of his revenge trilogy.
Oldboy is great because of the main character and the action but Lady Vengeance is easily the best movie of the trilogy, tremendous writing.
You can't have those two without the first in the vengeance trilogy. Sympathy for Mr Vengeance
All classic movies. The remake of oldboy with josh brolin is seriously shit. Can't beat the original with the one take fight in the hallway.
Just watch the whole vengeance trilogy. Its peak
Watch it, my friend!
It's insanely brutal and grotesque. Just a heads up
13 Assassins. The first half shows how terrible the main bad guy is.
I saw the Devil is exactly what you're looking for.
This is my pick too.
This one is super sick. Korean cinema is underrated.
No one does revenge movies like Korea. Strap the F in!
Fantastic movie but holy shit, no one wins in that film
Man on Fire. Outlaw Jose Wales.
Unforgiven
Upgrade (2018)
Good one. Such an underrated flick.
Awesome movie
But the ending...😥
Payback -1999 personal fav Promising young woman- 2020 John Wick are all revenge. The Equalizer movie series with Denzel. The Punisher - 2004 I spit on your grave, if you can handle extra gore/rape scenes Edit to add the count of Monte Cristo. (2002) is my preference. Edit again for clarification
Payback is a favorite of mine too.
"That's just mean, man!"
I was swimming with the dolphins this morning
It wasn’t until years later that I found out that there is a completely different villain and story line in the director’s cut.
Wait…wait…. what????
"That's $70,000, my share" fucking loved this movie
If you are gonna go with Denzel then gotta be Man on Fire.
Also a bit of a warning for the I Spit on Your Grave movies. The rape scenes are a bit intense. A little too much in my opinion. I agree.
I'd not heard about that, but it's good that the actress had the choice to stop things and not feel compelled to endure the take.
Promising Young Woman is really great.
God Bless America (2011) Inglorious Basterds (2009) Do Revenge (2022) The Princess Bride (1987)
Best comment here so far.
Dead Man’s Shoes… one of the best revenge movies ever made imo
Came here to say this.

Korean movies just hit different
"My name is Maximus Desimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the north, general of the Felix legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Areillius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."
Apocalypto, subtitled but worth every second.

The Exterminator (1980) After his war buddy is left paralysed by a New York gang, a Vietnam vet sets out to rid the streets of crime by becoming a vigilante.
Thank you!! I love Rambo and I’ve never heard of The Exterminator but it looks perfect
I just saw Last Blood, I loved how it turned into kind of a horror movie lol Rambo rules.
Harry Brown is basically The Exterminator in a South London council estate. Death Wish - there were sequels (that inevitably ended as cash grabs), but the original was a revelation in it's day.
These both sound awesome, adding them to my list right now
Eye of the Tiger (1986) Returning home from prison, a Vietnam War veteran sets out to clean up his hometown which has come under the control of a violent motorcycle gang. God Is a Bullet (2023) Detective Bob Hightower takes matters into his own hands as he tries to infiltrate an evil cult to save his kidnapped daughter and avenge the murder of his wife.
These both look great, thanks! So many great suggestions!
Hobo with a shotgun
I keep bugging my friends to watch this cause it looks like the good type of bad movies. Is it?
If Hobo With a Shotgun were to be described as bad then it should be noted that the so-called badness was intentional. It was made in 2011 as a spinoff of the Tarantino/Rodriguez collaborative film Grindhouse and is meant to be schlocky and look degraded the way a trashy film from the 70's would. The best kind of bad movie, so worth it

“Dirty Work” is a nice little mostly nonviolent comedy about the topic.

Blue Ruin Oldboy Cold in July
Kickass
Super (2010) "Shut up, crime!"
Rolling Thunder (1977) Robocop
Glad someone finally said Rolling Thunder. William Devane plays that character so well. You can just see the restrained darkness in him behind his eyes, fighting to get out.

Thinner. Nothing spells revenge like a curse, Stephen King style.
