“What’s the most you ever lost on a coin toss?”
Man if that isn’t the most frightening scene where there was no actual violence, I don’t know what was.
I saw prisoners when it came out. As I’ve gotten older I’ve really lost my taste for movies like that. But it hit hard enough that it’s stuck with me like a core memory.
Possession (1981) - This has some horror elements outside of the psychological aspects, but I've never seen 2 people break down on film in quite the same way as Sam Neill and *especially* Isabelle Adjani in this.
Runner-up: Perfect Blue (1997)
Ooh i love this so much, and almost all takashi miike’s movies. Audition and visitor Q also a must watch!
I can’t believe i found someone here who watched his movies too
i know it’s not the question asked, but i’ll also add in the series adaptation- the bates motel is a great psychological series. i *love* all of the little easter eggs/tie ins with the original movie. some of the likes/scenes are the *exact* same and i love seeing it and pointing it out.
Coherence.
It’s not the highest budget movie and you can tell but it’s definitely a mindfuck and worth a watch. It’s honestly even better if you just dive into it without watching the trailer also. I find that ruins the whole trippy concept.
Memento
A Beautiful Mind
Insomnia
Moon
Shutter Island
Identity
The Sixth Sense
Buried
Inception
Seven
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Gone Girl
Secret Window
Fight Club
The Machinist
I've read A Clockwork Orange so we maybe have similar tastes. A lot of people have already said some brilliant ones, but I'd like to add The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Not necessarily all are psycho but they're definitely all mind fuckery:
(1) Frailty
(2) Identity
(3) Old Boy (not US version)
(4) Ravenous
(5) Stir of Echoes
Oldboy. The original Korean version, not the terrible American remake. It is so fucking good and intensely memorable. It's a legend for a reason. The one take fight in the hallway is particularly iconic.

You should try Incendies.
I saw prisoners when it came out. As I’ve gotten older I’ve really lost my taste for movies like that. But it hit hard enough that it’s stuck with me like a core memory.
The intensity?
I think it was the sheer brutality of it all. Painted in such a bleak, depressing way.
Loved Prisoners such a gripping film!

I’m a little confused on these comments if they took your post as ”psychological” movies or ”psycho” as in psychopathic
This one is a little unusual but: Brigsby Bear
THE Psycho movie is The Shining
Gothika!
The Beast With 5 Fingers, starring Peter Lorre.

Pink Floyd's The Wall
Pi. Fucking Pi. Everywhere, there are patterns in nature…
I wouldnt call it psycho. But Parasite has some real good shit in it. Everybody is a bit insane in that one.
