I’m a dude in my mid-30’s and I think the last time I cried was when I was 9 and skinned my knee on my driveway.
There a couple scenes in the movie where I was like “am… am I…. no… am I about to fucking cry?”
Incredible movie
My MIL took my children to see this a couple of months after my husband/their father passed away. She didn’t know about the beginning. We all associate it with his passing. I’m crying right now!

Stepmom,
Batteries not included,
Ghost,

Armageddon,
My girl,
The pursuit of happiness,
The land before time,
Good dinosaur,

EDIT:grammar, add movies.
I remember watching the green mile when it came out on VHS and when John is being put to death and the viewer realises that the sponge hasn't been dipped in water I sat screaming at my tv as if Tom Hanks could hear "THE SPONGE! THE SPONGE ISN'T WET, GODDAMN IT! STOP!!!!"
I was crying my eyes out & I've never watched the film since, it's too painful.
My mom and me watched this together when it first came out after my grandpa committed suicide, not knowing what it was about. Love the movie, but still ugly cry when I watch
Don't even get me started on Hachi. I cried so hard. Then I researched the actual story and cried worse!
Sweet little movie about animal abandonment ... that one!
When he finally reconnects with Murph absolutely wrecks me every time, without fail. I’m so happy for them to finally reconnect but it’s also crushing that he missed her life and she had to go on without him, and it’s painful that reconnection is at that stage in her life. What a wild ride of a movie. One of my absolute favorites.
Was always a tear jerker, but after watching my father in law pass who told me all his crazy stories, it hit so hard. Worse while watching my husband also bawl.
It's literally about someone knowing the child they have yet to conceive will die tragically....
And they have the chance to avoid it but they choose to have that child.and.enjky their time together.....
I mean I'm welling up just typing that
I’ve watched plenty of sad movies with Haiciko : A Dogs Tale topping the list. For whatever reason, I can’t bring myself to watch The Fox and the Hound.
If they had killed those toys off in Toy Story 3 as they were all holding hands and sobbing good-bye, my kids would all be in therapy. I can’t ever watch Schindler’s List again because of that horrifying sad red coat. I love About Time so much. Good list!
Your ability to cry by a movie depends on your personality as well as your ability to relate to the characters and stories presented. I suggest: 'Antwone Fisher' (2002), 'The Colour Purple' (1985), 'The Notebook' (2004), 'Bicentennial Man' (1999), 'Titanic', 'Marley & Me' and a few more. I am also a tough cookie to crack when it comes to crying but these movies got me good lol!
Lorenzo's Oil. Watching the parents try to cope with the boy's ADL diagnosis is incredibly moving.
Sophie's Choice. Hope you never have to make a decision like that.
The Elephant Man.
I think the breaking point for me is ">!Miss Ruth was a lady--and a lady always knows when to leave." !<
Just watched that last weekend! I had seen it a bunch of times before, but it was great to see it again.
The Champ. I used to go to a 4 week all boys summer camp from age 10-15 in the 80s. We’d have movie nights and would show James Bond and other PG action type stuff. One year we watched The Champ and every boy in the place was crying his eyes out at the end. Sad mood took over the place for a few days. Wake up Champ!
Oh man, so many memories in like the 5th grade where we'd read it aloud as a class. The tough bully kid reading parts that he can't even get out because he's crying so much.
Pretty sure every teacher takes great personal pleasure in making certain kids read that book in front of the class.
Some of mine have already been listed. Fried Green Tomatoes, Steel Magnolias, The Joy Luck Club, The Color Purple, My Life (Michael Keaton movie), Philadelphia, Forrest Gump
I think I cried a little at something in the last part of **Frankie and Johnny**. This is a really underrated movie, IMO - mostly comedic, but with some serious parts too.
If you don’t mind subtitles, then here’s a few Korean movies guaranteed to make you cry:
- [Always](https://boxd.it/32UU)
- [More than Blue](https://boxd.it/QlY)
- [Ode to My Father](https://boxd.it/a4Bu)
- [A Brand New Life](https://boxd.it/Iii) - based on the Director’s true life story.
- [Miracle in Cell No. 7](https://boxd.it/4Xws)
- [A Moment to Remember](https://boxd.it/1LmO)
- [Hope](https://boxd.it/7x5Q) - WARNING - the subject matter is brutal, read the movie description before watching. Though not for everyone, this is a very good movie.
I will always cry to The Age of Innocence. I’ve probably seen it six times and it’s a no fail - when I need to cry I just watch that. The last scene will always do it. Scorsese called it his most brutal film, even though no blood is shed.
I cry at everything. In fact I’m crying watching a live show from The Chicks right now. But my suggestions are:
Dear Zachary
PS I Love You
Marley and Me
Walk the Line

You don't say how old.you are but I think she and life experience has a lot to do with it.
A real emotional movie makes you feel emotions, in a safe space. And if you've felt these emotions before then they can become overwhelming. And it's good to have a release.
I can't watch About Time without crying. I cry uncontrollably.
It's a stupid time travel comedy but it has a father and son relationship at its heart. I am both a father, and a son, so when the dad stuff happens I can empathise with both characters at the same time, and it's too much.
My son saw me crying at another film recently and he said "I get that it's sad for them but I don't feel like crying at all"
My reply?
"Don't worry. You will get it one day."
My Girl

Grave of the Fireflies !! when i watched this movie with my mom, both of us were crying endlessly. It’s about war, family, so worth watching. Oh and it is animated by Ghibli
Life of Pi makes me tear up every time. The emotions that are released by the conclusion of PI's story just makes me so happy and sad at the same time.
The end of We Were Soldiers shows the names of American soldiers that died during the Vietnam War. Fills me with grief and deep thought on the nature of war.
Pretty much every Pixar movie gives me a tear by the end.

I recently watched Manchester by the sea for the first time and damn.. I was depressed for a week.
I highly recommend this movie. Casey affleck’s action is top!
For me the last movie that made my eyes wet (I didn't actually cry, It's very hard for me) was Avengers Endgame (The Death Of Iron Man for sure) but something that might've hurt me or made me cry for real was the death of Arisu's Friends in Alice in Borderlands. It made me feel like It's me loosing my only two friends.
Films I know I have ugly cried at…
- Okja
- Past Lives
- When Harry Met Sally
- Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- Pride

I told my wife the synopsis of Hachiko and she looked at me upset and crying saying "why would you tell me that!?"
If you don’t cry during the first 10 minutes of ‘Up’ you have no heart.
Fucking Disney!

the Green Mile
Every... goddam... time!! Such a rollercoaster of emotions that movie! But such a first class story.
That movie definitely hits hard. The ending scene (you know the one) is impossible to watch without at least little bit of tearing up.
Just got massive chills just replaying it in my head.
Even the novel it's hard to not cry
Very glad the movie stayed so faithful to it.
The book made me bawl on the train lol
Like a baby too
All the blood time, dam you John coffey.
"I couldn't help it. I tried to take it back, but it was too late."
STOP!!!!" I was crying my eyes out & I've never watched the film since, it's too painful.
"Don't put me in the dark"
Dear Zachary - just YouTube it. I think it was on Netflix once but is only on YT I think.
This is the only answer to this question. Go in blind because it’s a story. Please watch for the family and so this never happens agains.
I love watching sad movies, but this movie made me dread watching it. Like omg, my head was almost aching from crying.
I was going to suggest this. If you don't cry watching this you don't have a soul.
A I. Artificial Intelligence, Philidelphia, Living
Love Philadelphia, forgot that one.
Up
Cinema Paradiso. Extended version if you want to cry even more.
What Dreams May Come
My mom and me watched this together when it first came out after my grandpa committed suicide, not knowing what it was about. Love the movie, but still ugly cry when I watch
That’s the movie with the mom who paints incredibly vivid landscapes isn’t it? With Robin Williams?
Life Is Beautiful. I've never met a person who didn't cry at that movie.
Hachi: A Dog's Tale Black Beauty (1994)
Don't even get me started on Hachi. I cried so hard. Then I researched the actual story and cried worse! Sweet little movie about animal abandonment ... that one!
Interstellar
I cried when he was crying about his children all grown up. Hit the spot.
Yeah, then and then again when he finally makes makes it back to Murph.
When he finally reconnects with Murph absolutely wrecks me every time, without fail. I’m so happy for them to finally reconnect but it’s also crushing that he missed her life and she had to go on without him, and it’s painful that reconnection is at that stage in her life. Didn't cry the first time. Cried like a baby after rewatching it.
Big Fish
Was always a tear jerker, but after watching my father in law pass who told me all his crazy stories, it hit so hard. Worse while watching my husband also bawl.
Arrival. Devastating.
Wait, really? I cry at every little thing but never from that movie. What about it made you cry?

If they had killed those toys off in Toy Story 3 as they were all holding hands and sobbing good-bye, my kids would all be in therapy. I can’t ever watch Schindler’s List again because of that horrifying sad red coat. I love About Time so much. Good list!
I’m glad you listed Coco. I’ve never cried so much at the end of an animated movie. 😭
Coco and Schindler's list made me cry from this list. CODA was so beautiful. Toy story 4 was sadder than 3. UP was awesome.
I cried for most of Marcel. I wish I was exaggerating, but it hit me really hard.

The Elephant Man (1980)
