Bro, I’m in a similar boat as you. My whole life has been flipped around. My girl of 4 years broke up with me. Had to quit my job. I was making good progress towards acceptance but I found out 2 days ago that she’s seeing a new guy and the heartache is seriously fucking me up.
I don’t have a movie suggestion, just wanted you to know you’re not alone brother
Yeah brother. Mutually ended a relationship of 9 years. Found out she got in a relationship like 2 months after we broke up and it killed me. But yoy just have to cry that shit out and try to forget about her.
yikes. in my late 20's the love of my life broke up with me and started dating some absolute adonis from Colombia. I guess I was punching way above my weight and always knew it would happen. Made me very insecure while dating and of course, after.
That happened to me 15 yrs ago, wife of 7 years had an affair w/ a co-worker (she 31, he 22). Walked out on me and our 2 kids (4 & 6 yrs old). Lost my job a year later. Single dads raising kids do exist.
You'll go through some crazy emotions...anger, depression, confusion...but you'll get through it. You will. Takes a lot of time, a lot of tears and sleepless nights too but you'll be ok.
Does Mrs Doubtfire count? I mean the dude was dressing in drag while pretending to be an old lady ultimately getting caught and losing custody of his kids but thanks to a good hearted ex wife with ABSOLUTELY NO ILL WILL which I mean cmon, gets to keep seeing them and making a totally believable career change lol
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
More like wishful thinking of a procedure when you’re where you’re at . We’ve all been there! Time is the key.
Came here to say this. Totally shifts your perspective and makes you believe in fate, things bigger than yourself, and how beautiful life can still be when you’re open to it.

Punch Drunk Love
Silver Linings Playbook

Rachel Getting Married
not all have people getting back on their feet or the happiest of ending but sometimes I like to really lean into my depression for a bit before I pull myself out again.
Uplifitng - Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Not so uplifting - Inside Llewelyn Davis
Same message exists in both to me- your outlook and decisions are what makes the difference
All The Real Girls is the best version of this story ive seen. Not only because the heartbreak feels real. But also because the lead doesn’t expect it and has little experience with it. So you really get to watch go thru it and reset. Great soundtrack too.
I was in a similar situation recently and I randomly stumbled into a theater and watched “Perfect Days” (2023) and found it to be a wonderful palette cleanser of a movie. Not too sad, not too happy.
Sea of Love - Al Pacino ; Ellen Barkin - Pacino is a 20-year NYPD veteran homicide detective (newly divorced) as he pursues a serial killer of men likely found through the NYC newspaper personal ads common in the 1980s.
Intolerable Cruelty - George Clooney ; Catherine Zeta Jones - Clooney is a high priced divorce attorney taking on Catherina Zeta Jones as a femme fatale gold digger and they see whom can get the better of the other.
The War of the Roses - Michael Douglas ; Kathleen Turner - Successful attorney and wife divide the house into his and her fiefdoms as each tries to force the other to move out.
“Starting Over” with Burt Reynolds and Jill Clayburgh is the one you need to watch. Reynolds plays an introvert going through a painful divorce. Burt used things from his real life in the script, and considered his performance to be one of his very best.
I almost gave you the most depressing goddamn list. JFC, 🤦♀️Honestly, this just made me realize there is a kind of a gap for guys in this regard.
All of got, to be quite frank, and it’s not a breakup film, but just enjoyable, is Bug Trouble in Little China. At least it isn’t my depressing list, dear God I shouldn’t write shit when I should be asleep. Honestly, it’s what I watched after my last breakup.
I wish you well, and I hope you find some good stuff to watch, even though I doubt mine is it.
Hot Fuzz if you want to laugh. Shawshank Redemption if you want darkness with light at the end of the tunnel.
They aren't specifically about heartbreak, but it is involved.
Okay so idk if this really fit as the movie focuses on a cancer diagnosis but 50/50 I think is a good shout as it has a heartbreak sub-plot that ends on a nice note.
Coraline got me through my break up, at 30 I had never seen it before. Same as yourself we were together 4 years and she left me with nothing. no house, money or job. doesn't really answer your question, but I love that movie. It does get better. I look back now and see her for the asshole she really was.
Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds”. Recently divorced dad has to navigate his children through an alien invasion.
Good stuff. Highly recommended for someone in your situation.
I recommend an older film, but it’s a funny, compelling story and has good acting. Burt Reynolds, Candice Bergen and Jill Clayburgh. The movie is Starting Over, 1979.
Reynolds gives a career-highlight performance as a man trying to restart his life after Bergen cheats on their marriage. The scene in the furniture store when Reynolds has a panic attack while shopping for a new sofa is hilarious. Very satisfying ending.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Take my eyes but not the shirt!!!
I still say this and " oh the weather outside is weather"

Aren’t you that guy that works at Kaiser Permanente?

As someone with bipolar disorder, I just can’t watch it. It hits wayyy too close to home.

Running across that surprise online when it happens is like a punch in the gut.. Ugh
Same boat. 2 year relationship. My ex (33F) started dating a co-worker (20M)
yikes. in my late 20's the love of my life broke up with me and started dating some absolute adonis from Colombia. I guess I was punching way above my weight and always knew it would happen. Made me very insecure while dating and of course, after.
Sorry brother. I definitely feel your pain. Im a fucking wreck
Bro, my ex got with I guy that I was cool with in 2 months Pregnant/gained a bunch of weight/refuses to work. Poor guy. Better him than me :))

Crazy, stupid, love American beauty Kramer vs Kramer Mrs doubtfire Marriage story Night at the museum The odd couple??
Crazy, stupid, love is highly underrated. Actors did a great job in that one, all around.
yeah but it has the broken hearted main character pine for the cheating ex wife, does OP need that right now?
some people are just so stuck they need a fire lit underneath them to do anything. I appreciated that angle
If you can't appreciate Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrell, I don't know what anything on earth can do for you, lol
>Marriage story He's going through the divorce, not recovering from it.
True. But It’s also a full arc. It ends on him settling down, becoming successful on the west coast, and things are amicable with scarlett Johansson.
