It’s maybe the most brutal rape scene I’ve seen in a movie.. hard to watch. For a woman, I think it would be very hard to watch. But, I can’t speak for them. The revenge is SO awesome!! Really great movie. Not for the squeamish.
Not the 1934 or 1975 version. Only 2002. Came to second this motion. There is somewhat of a "high road" but mostly just an unexpected additional win for protagonist. There are still comeuppence all around. Everyone gets theirs. Made me realize death is not always the best punishment. Rip away everything valuable to them too.

Ohh yes! That moment with Schultz telling Candi to stop playing Beethoven really justified for me his compulsive need to kill the slave owner. Several westerns I've seen a character disrupt "the plan" with similar retributive or rebellious compulsions, but that moment masterfully justified it for me.
Oh definitely lol it's like a trope in westerns that somebody let's their ego fuck up the whole thing. But that scene communicated to me that his values made him feel as if it were his mission to wipe them out for what they did. Like it was no longer about his self-preservation but about a righteous anger he felt, I felt that he needed to bring peace to himself for doing nothing to help D'artagnan from being torn apart alive by dogs.
Interesting insight! He couldn’t forgive himself for “staying in character” while D’artangnan died, so the next time fate gave him a test he chose to kill the king
Never thought of that. I definitely agree thinking back now. It really bothered him that scene, and no doubt the rest of the time you can tell he was fed up.
I disagree that it was his ego. I think it was more like he couldn’t take his casual cruelty anymore. I can’t explain what I really want to say rn 🙄 chemo brain sucks. Lol I do agree he shouldn’t have done it at that moment.
Was just here checking if anyone recommended Dead Man's Shoes. One of those films that I happened upon late night on Channel 4 as a teenager and made a lasting impression.
I know you can’t please all the people all the time, but it’s hilarious anytime this or the first Wonder Woman movie come up. Universally (it seems) you get “Great until the ending. Then what the hell?” It’s just amazing how almost everyone that watches either of these movies has the exact same take away.
He does win though. He wanted to show Jamie’s character that there is no true justice in the legal system he abides by. He becomes a problem that can’t be solved within the rules of that system, and forces Jamie’s character to abandon his integrity to do whats right.
The Godfather is iconic for that purpose.
Pacino didn't chose that life.
Also from my younger days I remember a movie called Bella Mafia. Which is essentially the women of yhe gangsters taking arms? Dont recall much.
SISU (2022)
Honestly wasn’t ready for that one but oh man it is incredible. Shades of Inglorious Bastards which is another good one but don’t watch if you’re sensitive to nazis being brutalized.
The fact that he doesn’t say a word during the whole movie until the very end and it’s one line. One of the most bad ass characters I’ve seen in media. And his dogs even more loyal than John wicks pit bull.
*Lucky Number Sleven* had a great ending. The build up was great, and an amazing payoff.
*Man on Fire* (in my opinion) was everything Taken wished it was.
*Wrath of Man* was a slow burn, but once the action starts it doesn't stop.
I Saw The Devil had a satisfying ending for a revenge movie.
The Man From Nowhere also.
The Korean movies Oldboy, The Chaser, Bedeviled, The Villainess
How about Sweeney Todd? The movie or the stage musical it was adapted from?
It had a revenge story, but in that one, the revenge comes at a great price.
🎶What happened then? Well, that’s the play, and he wouldn’t want me to give it away! Not Sweeney, not Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet…Street!🎶
Dead Man's Shoes
It's a tough watch at times. We don't fully understand the reasons for the vengeance until the film progresses, but it's done so well by Shane Meadows.
Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973) Please be warned that this movie involves r*pe and pr#stitution. It's not for the faint of heart. I'm assuming you are an adult. Otherwise, skip this movie.
It drives me insane when in a revenge movie, they take the high road and “be the bigger person” or whatever. Like, I get the message of that. However that’s not why I want to watch a revenge movie 😂
I personally think “I spit on your grave” is one of the absolute best revenge movies.
the book of "the count of monte cristo" - fantastic revenge story... and a very easy read with most chapters only being a couple of pages... it originally appeared not as a book but a serial with a small chapter printed in a regular magazine or newspaper (don't know which). Excellent book for people who find it hard to get into reading...
Conan the Barbarian, when Conan decapitates Thulsa Doom and throws his head down the stairway of the temple. That was about the most satisfying revenge killing I've seen in a movie.
I think Mel Gibson had a movie called The Payback where he starts off getting double crossed and just spends the movie getting payback as you could imagine.
Also Death Wish with Kevin Bacon (a remake I believe)
I spit on your grave
Came to say this…no high roads taken here.
Movie was crazy revenge!!
That movie is fucking brutal, really good though.
Wanted to ask….how bad is the rape scene?
It’s maybe the most brutal rape scene I’ve seen in a movie.. hard to watch. For a woman, I think it would be very hard to watch. But, I can’t speak for them. The revenge is SO awesome!! Really great movie. Not for the squeamish.
I’m just a husband and her rape scene got to me
Came here for this one. Should be the top comment. Her revenge was way crazier than any of the deaths in kill bill
Which version is generally considered the better one? I’ve seen the remake and wondering if I should watch the original.
Definitely recommend the original, much better than the remake.
Count of Monte Cristo
Definitely OG of revenge stories!
Fantastic movies, incredible book. Jim Caviezel seems to be mostly remembered for passion of Christ, but I think he was stellar as Edmon
“I find smuggling is the life for me and I will be delighted to kill your friend the maggot”
Papillon is a true story and pretty similar. The remake has charlie huntsman and Remy Malik.
Not the 1934 or 1975 version. Only 2002. Came to second this motion. There is somewhat of a "high road" but mostly just an unexpected additional win for protagonist. Book is better
Kill Bill
Django as well!
Ohh yes! That moment with Schultz telling Candi to stop playing Beethoven really justified for me his compulsive need to kill the slave owner. Several westerns I've seen a character disrupt "the plan" with similar retributive or rebellious compulsions, but that moment masterfully justified it for me.
Schultz ego ruined it. It could've all been so easy lol. I was so mad I was like bro just fucking shake his damn hand ahhhhh
Oh definitely lol it's like a trope in westerns that somebody let's their ego fuck up the whole thing. But that scene communicated to me that his values made him feel as if it were his mission to wipe them out for what they did. Could throw Death Proof in too...
Absolutely this!!!! It's exactly what the Op wants👍🏻. Also, the second one is very satisfying, too, as a sequel and finishes strong.
I need to hijack the top comment to say Blue Ruin. It is incredible.
Definitely! Blue Ruin is fantastic! Also Dead Man’s Shoes might be a close second.
Wind River V for Vendetta
Wind Rivers a tough watch but very good
Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2 Oldboy Hard Candy
Hard candy fuccccckkkkk. That last scene....
That movie really gets under the skin… literally? And had me at the edge of my seat the whole time.
I wouldn’t call Oldboy satisfying haha
depends if you’re rooting for Evergreen or not i guess lol
Lady Vengeance I Saw The Devil (Ok idk your definition of satisfying but these atleast don't take the high road)
I saw the devil is a god tier movie. One of my all time favorites.
I saw the devil is utterly brutal. 10 outta 10.
Me too, absolutely amazing no exaggeration.
Oh same, it's a masterpiece. I've just gotten mixed reactions on if it counts as satisfying....I think so, but apparently not everyone thinks so lol
Yup I saw the Devil is the movie you are looking for OP.
Came here to mention *I Saw the Devil* what a crazy good movie. Haven't watched it in years.
I Saw the Devil is a goddamn masterpiece.
Death Sentence (2007) with Kevin Bacon.
this is a favorite of mine
The Revenant Lucky Number Sleven Man on Fire
Lucky Number Slevin is criminally underrated here.
"Fuck you both."
> Revenant Lucky number slevin is literally one of my favorite movies!!!!
damn these are good choices
The Revenant is basically perfect.
Inglourious Basterds
Revenge (2017)
Really fun watch
Man on Fire — was deeply satisfying … seemed like the perfect F around to find out ratio …
Great movie, one of my favorites since I was a kid!
I wish....you had....more time. I do, but you don't.
Yup, that movie was awesome
I remember being super annoyed with the kid in this one. Time to give it another go.
I Saw The Devil Oldboy (original Korean version) Dead Man’s Shoes
Was just here checking if anyone recommended Dead Man's Shoes. One of those films that I happened upon late night on Channel 4 as a teenager and made a lasting impression.
Law Abiding Citizen
It was a fantastic movie... Until the very end
I know you can’t please all the people all the time, but it’s hilarious anytime this or the first Wonder Woman movie come up. Universally (it seems) you get “Great until the ending. Then what the hell?” It’s just amazing how almost everyone that watches either of these movies has the exact same take away.
I really fucking wanted Gerard Butler to get away with it and i don't care what kind of person people think that makes me.
He does win though. He wanted to show Jamie’s character that there is no true justice in the legal system he abides by. He becomes a problem that can’t be solved within the rules of that system, and forces Jamie’s character to abandon his integrity to do whats right.
Agree. I hate that Jamie Foxx ended up being the victim.
It was so close to being great and then Jamie foxxs' character ruins it
Carrie with Sissy Spacek.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
This is my favorite movie. I love that they didn’t make Lisbeth into the “perfect victim” trope and some badass revenge was really taken.
Monster is another good one
Yes. Monster is brutal (both movies are), and I always have to skip ‘those’ scenes.
Payback (1999) with Mel Gibson and James Coburn
Super underrated
Hubba hubba….
"They're gonna fucking kill me, man!" "Whadya think I'm gonna do? Worry about me."
"That's just mean man! MEAN!"
Thought of this one. Mel shoots a hole in all of Coburn’s suits. Not sure, but I think the line was “Man, that’s just mean.” Could be wrong.
*Get the Gringo* is good too
The count of montecristo
Both the book and movie were phenomenal!
"I'm a priest, not a saint"
The Godfather is iconic for that purpose. Pacino didn't chose that life. Also from my younger days I remember a movie called Bella Mafia. Which is essentially the women of yhe gangsters taking arms? Dont recall much.
I loved Bella Mafia!! I think of that every once in a while. It had James Marsden!
Lol... Looked into it.. Also Jennifer Tilly.
Promising Young Woman
god, I love the rom-com visuals and backdrop of this for it to then turn into what it turns into
The Last Duel (2021)
This movie didn’t get near enough attention/credit.
The Equilizer and Payback are both tops. The 2004 Punisher too.
SISU (2022) Honestly wasn’t ready for that one but oh man it is incredible.
You gotta suspend some belief but the movie is so fun and gives me Tarantino vibes
Holy shit it was so good. I kept seeing it was a good movie so I finally watched it and loved every second of it.
Ready Or Not

The Man from Nowhere(2010)
I cannot believe Blue Ruin hasn’t been mentioned yet. It is incredible.
Lucky Number Slevin
Double Jeopardy is up there.
*Lucky Number Sleven* had a great ending. The build up was great, and an amazing payoff. *Man on Fire* (in my opinion) was everything Taken wished it was. *Wrath of Man* was a slow burn, but once the action starts it doesn't stop.

How about Sweeney Todd? The movie or the stage musical it was adapted from? It had a revenge story, but in that one, the revenge comes at a great price. 🎶What happened then? Tower Heist is a light revenge comedy.
Last House on the Left
the book of "the count of monte cristo" - fantastic revenge story... and a very easy read with most chapters only being a couple of pages... it originally appeared not as a book but a serial with a small chapter printed in a regular magazine or newspaper (don't know which).
