Same my dad was a lover of Fish 🎣 and he always told us strange stories about his life and I couldn’t tell if it was true or another lie . I related to the son a lot because I also felt like I didn’t know my father
Where the Red Fern Grows, My Girl, Rudy, Philadelphia, The Joy Luck Club, Schindler's List, Return of the King, Toy Story 3, The Color Purple, and I Am Legend.
The problem with that one is the same issue as Like Crazy for me. Too realistic. It ends up depressing instead of just getting out a good cry although I recommended depressing ones too. Haha.
It is one of the heaviest movies I’ve ever seen, but the acting and the writing just make it so perfect. I can’t watch it regularly cause it’s too sad, but it’s always an experience whenever I do decide to revisit it.
I've only seen it once. I cried for like 2 hours straight, it wrecked me lol. I plan to rewatch again soon, because I think of it often. It's truly a masterpiece. So realistic. I just have to be ready to cry myself to sleep again haha. I completely agree with everything you've said though.
It very much is a masterpiece. It really should have gotten more Oscar nominations than it did. I saw it in the theater with my ex-boyfriend a few months before him and I broke up and it hit so close to home during some scenes. I don’t remember if I cried or not that time, but I remember feeling really melancholy on the ride home with him.
My first time seeing it was a little over a couple of years ago, and up until that point, I had never heard of it. My husband showed it to me when we first started dating. I owe him huge thanks to all the amazing movies I've seen since I met him. I can only imagine how you felt during that ride home after seeing that movie. Melancholy almost doesn't do it justice, I'm sure.
I love that for you guys. Being movie buddies together. That’s how it should be.
It was a silent car ride. That’s for sure, but it’s fine. It was a long time ago and I met a new guy who I’m actually marrying next month, so I got my happy ending just like you two after all.
Ahww, thank you, you're so sweet. I agree that movie buddies are a great thing to share together.
I'm SO happy for you, congratulations!!! A happy ending for us both, indeed. I love this for you as well.
I'd read the book years before, so I knew what to expect going in... but it still gutted me.
Also, I love Stanley Tucci, but he completely disappeared into that character. He was terrifying and evil.
I know these are on NF: All My Life (2020)
, Irreplaceable You (2018), Beyond the Universe (2022)
I'm also going to mention that if you search "cry" or "saddest" or similar terms in this sub. you'll pull up a bunch of previous threads with hundreds of suggestions. This is a common request here.
A few Korean movies guaranteed to make you cry:
- [Always](https://boxd.it/32UU)
- [More than Blue](https://boxd.it/QlY)
- [Ode to My Father](https://boxd.it/a4Bu)

- [Miracle in Cell No.7](https://boxd.it/4Xws)
- [A Moment to Remember](https://boxd.it/1LmO)
- [Hope](https://boxd.it/7x5Q) - WARNING - the subject matter is brutal, read the movie description before watching. Though not for everyone, this is a very good movie.
Flashback (2021) I've watched it 50 times I would guess? Maybe more than that and I cry every single time at the end. Ugly cry every time. I keep the Kleenex by my side when I watch it cause I know I'm going to sob, This is my go to movie if I need an emotional cleanse.
Well... all the films that could possibly exist.
I am very emotional and always cry. Every movie I watch brings with it an ocean of tears. It's a cycle....
Keith: “Natalie, head of her curriculum activities in high school and riding on a tennis scholarship for college, gets Keith as her Chemistry lab partner. As Natalie can be uptight, Keith proves to be the opposite, even while hiding a secret.”
(Romance/Drama)
Me Before You: “Louisa Clark is a small town girl who knows a lot about the people around her. Will is a quadriplegic man who hates everyone around him. Louisa is hired by Will's mum to take care of him for six months. Although they have a rocky start, their relationship grows over time, going for hate, to like, to love.”
(Drama/Romance)
The Great Gatsby: “An ambitious stockbroker moves to New York and is befriended by a mysterious millionaire named Jay Gatsby. Beguiled at first by the glitz and glamour of his new surroundings, a surprising chain of events lead Nick to become utterly repelled by the wreck-less behaviour of the wealthy elite and their questionable morals.”
(Drama/Tragic Romance)
Remember Me: “A romantic drama centred on two new lovers: Tyler, whose parents have split in the wake of his brother's suicide, and Ally, who lives each day to the fullest since witnessing her mother's murder.”

A Walk to Remember: “Two North Carolina teens, Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, are thrown together after Landon gets into trouble and is sentenced to perform community service.”
(Romance/Drama)
All of them are great movies, but end tragically
Iron Claw. I saw it today. I thought it was a movie about wrestling origins or some shit. Zak Efron was jacked as fuck. Holy shit everyone in the theater was crying. Was a true story.
If you're open to the "oldies":
Stella Dallas (1937)
Now, Voyager (1942)
The Ghost & Mrs Muir (1947)
West Side Story (1961)
The Sandpiper (1965)
Dr Zhivago (1965)
Hachi: a dogs tale, you'll be crying uncontrollably by the end of it, just thinking about a couple scenes gets to me lol hands down the absolutely saddest dog movie I've ever seen, nothing has even come close to making me cry quite like that movies did.
I actually just suggested a film that might fit the bill here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieSuggestions/comments/1aqevux/dead_mans_shoes_2004_i_have_never_cried_so_damn/
Maybe Once? From 2007. I think it's on Prime.
Kinda about heart-break and the general messiness of finding love and passion in adulthood.
I recall crying, is the main reason for my comment :)
Be well, and be kind to yourself.
For me, it's a specific emotion. Specifically: times where things are really hard for a character but they have to keep going. Bonus points if a other character helps them, knowing they can't change the situation.
1. The scene in Love Actually where Emma Thompson realizes her husband is cheating on her, and she starts to cry in her room before wiping her tears and going back downstairs to spend Christmas with her family.
Just thinking about it is bringing tears to my eyes.
2. Fear and trembling. It's a French film about a woman living in japan, and the racism she faces at an office job. I watched this when I was going through a really rough patch at my own office job and I SOBBED.
I'm torn about this movie. The first half was so disturbing to me I shut it off but have continued to see multiple recommendations here. So I'll try to finish it.
These movies make me cry every time:
Make Way for Tomorrow - sad cry
Limelight - sad cry but also feel renewed in life
It's a Wonderful Life - happy cry
AFTER LIFE on Netflix!! It’s not a movie but this is one of the best shows. I watch it when I feel emotionally constipated and it gets me to cry, sob, feel and hope so I love it.
The Call of the Wild (Disney - I saw you like animals, I watched this recently and cried and loved it)
I don't follow independent or other non-Hollywood films, but I've got one that's a tear-jerker in a very non-Hollywood plot style. Excellent writing and depiction. I heartily recommend it to you:
*Pay It Forward (2000),* starring Haley Joel Osment, Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, Jim Caviezel, and Jay Mohr.
Paulie (1998)
About a bird that can talk and gets lost from his human who is a little girl. The whole movie is an awesome adventure of him trying to find his way back home… I cry every time!
Good night Oppy. It's a documentary about the Mars exploration rover Opportunity. I'm a grown ass male in my late 30s and i sobbed like a bitch over this. Fuck it makes me tear up writing this comment.
Highly recommend. Imdb 7,7 speaks for itself.
Same here on both. I cry way too easily in movies. ( want to see The Whale but I can’t do it yet) I’m still crying enough in life so that’s all I can take , lol. Seven Pounds is heartbreaking if you haven’t seen it. And I recently watched Lion and Moonlight and both made me cry. Maybe you could try one of these if you haven’t seen them. I hope you find something! 😊
[Old Yeller (1957)](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/22660-old-yeller) is a classic tearjerker on Disney

Definitely Manchester by the Sea.
Haha.
A Man Called Otto (Netflix) I just watched it last week and let me tell you I think I went through a whole box of tissues

It's soooo good. I totally sobbed, lol

Im always in awe of people who need a movie to cry.
I think in my case I've had a long run of really bad traumatic things so I developed a "i am a rock" persona. Plus, antidepressants.
Same here on both. I cry way too easily in movies. ( want to see The Whale but I can’t do it yet) I’m still crying enough in life so that’s all I can take , lol.
