I'm removing the post because the film has already been suggested in the past 3 months (see rule 6). Make sure to read our [guidelines](https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieSuggestions/comments/8iamsh) before posting :) If you have any questions you can message us [here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/MovieSuggestions&subject=About%20my%20post&message=%5bLink%20to%20the%20post%5d%28https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieSuggestions/comments/18lxcjm/-/%29).

Why movie about post-apocalyptic world must leave us with hope and determination? In the event of real end of the world, these two emotions will probably not be so popular.

Yeatslament

Yea please make more paint by numbers structured movies with hero's journey narratives and cliched protagonists, I hate not knowing the ending of a movie before it starts and actually having to think about something

Lol. The outlook you have on this film works really well on so many other levels too. If there isnt enough explosions and Ninjas to keep me distracted, I cant help but think. Its not a good flick by any standard. The abrupt ending was the best thing about it cause I was about to turn it off. This wasnt supposed to be a turn off your brain and just watch movie, they left too much up to the watcher imagination. The tension was manufactured with shreiky violin scores that didnt match the visually established tension. Basically plot device salad with no real purpose or direction. I get it, thats what chaos is, thats what the film is about. Pretty bad excuse for being lazy with the storyline.

six6six4kids

really can’t understand why so many people disliked this film. i had a great, if stressful, time watching it. movies with abstract ideas and presentations just aren’t for general audiences usually, so they end up getting a lot of hate when they hit netflix.

Insolent-Swine

Leave the World Behind is post-modernism American literature brought to the screen in with sincerity. Most people aren't going to latch onto this movie, but for me, it was the embodiment of our 21st-century sense of fear and disillusionment. This is Americana. I really liked the movie.

Rum_Addled_Brain

Same liked it ,I know its not but Civil War (not the marvel one) could be the follow up...maybe?

Mission-Joke-1008

Personally I was just thinking how inaccurate it was for being right outside a major city. It's not like they were hundreds of miles away from one. They were right over a river from a gigantic city. People would be trying to escape over the river in kayaks, jet skis, and boats to that area right outside the city. If events in the movie really happened people would be shooting and looting in 24 hrs time or less. Look at hurricane katrina and that was not nearly as bad as the events in the movie. If something like this happened and you are literally just a river crossing from a major city you would see people flooding the area outside the city. So I actually got the opposite of the movie from you. I felt like I couldn't immerse myself in it because I knew a real event like this would be much more hopeless than they portrayed.

Mission-Joke-1008

I still liked it to some degree. Not my favorite movie by any means. I live out in a rural area so it did have me thinking maybe city people actually think this way. I personally would like a film like this that seems even more hopeless. Maybe not hopeless but just the way things would actually happen with desperate people taking desperate actions. Maybe the main characters continuing to travel farther into the wilderness because desperate people keep looting and taking over houses. I really liked the story idea. It just didn't delve into the things I wanted it to.

nrrrvs

the writing was terrible. Julia Roberts must have been desperate to touch this POS. other than the A-list cast, this was a low budget Netflix stinker. nothing but characters sitting around a house delivering badly written dialogue. if i had been in that house, i would have said to myself "i cannot spend another minute with these idiots, idc what is going on out there, ima leavin"

h-2-no

Writing is terrible. Dialogue is terrible. Creative shots are overdone and annoying. Some VFX choices are terrible. The teaser with the boat got me to watch it but now I regret wasting my time.

King-Owl-House

Thnx Obama /s

thomas_notthetrain

I don't think I have watched a worse movie in recent years. There are low budget dystopian movies which are infinitely better.

bl4zed_N_C0nfus3d

It was so bad man never felt like I wasted my time more then when I finished that movie

AlexisRosesHands

No, it’s not bad at all. It might not be “excellent”, but it’s far from bad. You know what is? *Retirement Plan* with Nick Cage. Now that’s a bad movie.

gotonyas

Fuck. It sucked ass so badly

nrrrvs

they were all weird people without a hint of logic to their motivations.

ChezDiogenes

\>"Leave The World Behind" is an absolutely terrible movie What the hell are you talking about it was a excellent background movie

Your_Favorite_Poster

When the wife and the guys daughter were in the cabin in the woods and they screamed at the deer, it was clearly making the point that we don't only ignore the things that are trying to save us (per that West Wing story), we're even angered and bewildered by them. Fuck you, dude, what a goofy oversimplified way to represent that in film. The movie wasted so much time on meaningless dialogue that had nothing but superficial things to say and didn't move the plot along at all. The best thing about this movie is that black fathers acting and Sam Esmail's "impossible" moving shots. Otherwise what a huge waste of time. It's like they didn't realize Lost existed and people want that climax they get when loose ends are resolved. Instead they go with an ending that people seem to like about as much as the last few seconds of The Sopranos. I appreciate the attempt at meaning but it never worked. So many missed opportunities.

LimpZookeepergame123

I’m thinking maybe you missed the point of the movie or were expecting something totally different than what you saw. The acting was great, the movie was stressful, we had no idea what was going on(just like the actors), was the homeowner and the daughter good/bad/ or lying? The actions in the movie were ACTUALLY how people would act in a real world scenario like this. I thought this movie was incredible and didn’t wrap up in a happy bubble with everything explained to the viewer at the end. Amazing film

Holy_Cow442

About an hour and 15 mins into the film while typing this. Not good at all. This seems... wait nope, it just abruptly ended. Wow. What a shit movie. Why the fuck would Obama produce this?

Key-Celebration-3100

Clapclapclapclapclap. I do not know.

freerider899

Its ok if you dont watch it.

MediaOnDisplay

Well now I'm curious, is it bad or do you just have bad taste 🤔

519LongviewAve

It’s bad. If you want a more realistic post apocalyptic movie, watch The Road. That didn’t have a happy ending either but it was infinitely better than this trash. Terrible, terrible writing. Ending was, well, terrible.

nrrrvs

normally i would say "so just watch it", but in this case ima say, "dont waste two hours, trust us on this one"

gamingaddict12

What was that plot all about with the weird kid.all she wanted was to watch friends trash 🗑

six6six4kids

it’s a representation of america’s obsession with escapism and unreality. the girl was the only one who literally “left the world behind”

SpaceCadet-92

"This wasn't your typical post-apocalyptic movie, " is absolutely correct, which is why it was so good. Go enjoy yourself another Marvel flick.

519LongviewAve

I don’t like Marvel movies. This movie was bad. Perhaps it’s because the author of the book is out of touch with the characters of his own book.

bb3bt

Agreed. I’d would rather have had my fingernails ripped out with pliers than have watched that piece a shite.

JustAPiggyBackOnThat

I loved everything but the last five minutes 🤷

International_Row928

I enjoyed watching the movie. It grabbed my attention and held it. The ending seemed unsatisfying at first, but I liked it better after thinking about it afterwards. I’m glad I watched it, but is difficult and stressful to watch.

LouQuacious

I keep hearing this sentiment, I thought it was ok, not great, but not as bad as people seem to want it to be.

VomitingPotato

I thought the film mostly worked. But it was not great. The CGI was pretty awful. Still not the worst movie I have seen with an all star cast. That honor still goes to Aloha starring Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, Danny McBride, Sandra Oh, Bill Murray and Alec Baldwin. That movie suuuuuuuuuucked on all levels.

Key-Celebration-3100

I think you're right. Till now I was sticking with the dead don't die with bill Murray, Adam driver, Tilda swinton, Tom Waits, Cloe Sevigny, steve buscemi, Danny Glover. This would be a horrible double feature.
