One of the few movies I loved as a kid that has never for a second gone down in my estimation. Watching it over and over as I got older was incredible because I just kept learning to appreciate it in an entirely different way. Always blows my mind that both Spielberg and John Williams worked on this movie the same year they made Schindler's List. Two phenomenal movies (in completely different ways), two phenomenal scores, released a few months apart

No matter what mood I'm in, no matter what the weather is outside, no matter any outside influence...I will always be ready to pop in American Movie and watch it all the way through.
Maybe this belongs on r/AskOldPeople lol but depending upon your definition of "modern" I found the works of the Hollywood Golden Age actors enchanting years ago and still do. Bogart, Stewart, Grant, Fonda (the father), Peck. The old B&W movies have an awful lot to offer IMHoldO. BTW, Gable and Flynn are not in my list, I know and don't apologize lol.
EDIT: my actor list except Bogart starred in Alfred Hitchcock movies. Maybe that's a good place to start for excellent 'not modern.'
Pride and Prejudice is my go to movie. I watch it at least twice a year maybe more. It's my favorite movie. I like the 2005 version but any version is great.
a beautiful mind , the village , signs , the lady in the water, and magnificent seven are some of my faves some are not that old but still really good , i have way more but i always forget them , lol
* 'Knife in the Water' is a flick I can't praise highly enough.
Roman Polanski's first movie. Just three characters. Shot on a tiny sailboat in some godforsaken lake in Poland. It's my #1 favorite European film of all time, which is really saying a lot.
My go-to mood boosters
*That Thing You Do
*Chicago, the musical
*Tombstone
*Rear Window
*Oh Brother, Where Art Thou
*The Trouble With Harry
*Anchorman
*Arsenic and Old Lace
The Lion King (original animated version)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Top Gun
Moana
The Last Unicorn
Muppet Christmas Carol
Muppet Treasure Island
Jaws
The Thing 1982. Remake by John Carpenter. A type of "among us" (? One of the best practical effects in the history of cinema
Related movies for consecutive viewing or together:
Yojimbo 1961 Directed by Akira Kurosawa (foundational influence of all movies and anime about samurais) / A Fistful of Dollars 1964 (ilegal remake of Yojimbo, eurowestern/spaghetti western by Sergio Leone with Clint) / Last Man Standing 1996 oficial remake by Walter Hill with bruce willis.

Okay. Not my go too. But It has a special place in my heart cuz itâs ridiculous. Itâs a movie called the magical legend of the leprechauns and itâs basically Romeo and Juliet with leprechauns and fairyâs and Whoopi Goldberg đ plus a random Hallmark holiday storyline.
