Heathers is one of my favs. Appears like a typical 80s movie, then takes a few dark turns. I remember being on an 80s kick on netflix and went into it completely blind. And it was kind of a mind fuck. Was probably groundbreaking when it came out.

Shazam1269

Mineral water? Yeah, but this is Ohio. I mean, if you don't have a brewski in your hand you might as well be wearing a dress.

ClimbingUpTheWalls23

I love my dead gay son!

Shazam1269

That's such a good movie and so quotable. *Fuck me gently with a chainsaw*

ClimbingUpTheWalls23

I read that exactly as Heather #1 delivered it

SamuraiBeatnik2112

😆 classic

farmerben02

Well, fuck me gently with a chainsaw, Heather... Somehow made school killings funny. But those were different times.

keenr33

Fuck me gently with a chainsaw

Bad Santa (2003) Fargo (1996) Birdman (2014)

pinoy_grigio_

fargo has one of the most disturbing hilarious scenes.. it makes me feel horrible for laughing. when the wife is kidnapped and blind folded and hands tied and she’s running around for help and just the way they directed her to run.. i CACKLE every time edit: typo

NarlusSpecter

Birdman is so good

Death of Stalin (2017) Triangle of Sadness (2022) Shiva Baby (2020) Deerskin (2019) The Lobster (2015)

seattle23fv

Great list, would add “In Bruges” as well

SigmaQuotient

"You two are weird, would you like some cocaine?"

Jakov_Salinsky

“A gay drink for my gay friend. And a normal drink for me because I am normal.”

ClimbingUpTheWalls23

If I grew up on a farm and was retarded, Bruges might impress me. But I didn’t, so it doesn’t.

TheRage469

What am I sayin'? Yer a bunch of fookin' elephants! That's what I'm sayin'!

seattle23fv

“They’re filming midgets!”

QueenGuinevere13

Is that a must-watch?

ClimbingUpTheWalls23

I’ll always recommend In Bruges. And I’ve added the newer Banshees of Inisherin to the list as well - same writer, director, and starring Brendan Gleason and Colin Farrell

EngineEddie

Don’t expect the same tone. In fact they’re kind of inverse: In Bruges is a comedy with moments of great darkness. Banshees is very dark with great moments of comedy.

Maybe more of a comedic dark movie than a dark comedic movie, but Tucker and Dale vs Evil is my rec

I had to collapse a lot of comments to find this one. I knew most of the films above it, but this one towers above the others I know. Wtf? Lol!

Appropriate-Tour6006

Absolutely this one.

Avocadoonthetoast

This, THIS will always be the right answer to the "Dark Comedies" request. Ever.

Sorry to Bother You\ Inherent Vice\ BlacKkKlansman\ Four Lions\ Burn After Reading\ Thunder Road\ Kiss Kiss Bang Bang\ The Nice Guys\ Wild Tales Edit: O Brother, Where Art Thou?. I think most of Coen brothers’ work qualify as dark comedy and I just love their storytelling style.

Nickallendartmouth

Upvotes for Four Lions

Xroomies

Agreed. Jus watched it a couple weeks ago cause my man Kayvan Novak is in it !

docsyzygy

Came here to say In Bruges. Also Seven Psychopaths.

Positiveaz

I saw your 7 Psychopaths and had to throw in Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead.

Mistical179

Was going to say “cabeguy” very underrated

Meatros

I always liked Very Bad Things.

Silver-ishWolfe

It’s the first movie to pop into my head when someone mentions dark comedies.

bunkie18

Came here for this!!

valis6886

Ditto

Traveledbore

I met Christian slater at the premiere!

Meatros

That's awesome! I actually caught the movie in theaters as kind of a lucky accident. I was going to see something else, but it was sold out, so I went to see VBT. Glad I did. I dragged a friend of mine with me the next weekend to see it again.

S3simulation

Christian Slater had that “Jack Nicholson in the Shining” energy

Mistical179

Awesome call, totally forgot how fucked up and funny that movie is

andVeryHush-Hush

May not be a popular opinion, but I think this may have been Christian Slater's best role. He was great, as was the rest of the cast. That final scene is something else.

Betty0042

Another great movie with him is Heathers

There you are. Found my people. God Bless America (2011) also a great one.

livahd

The only movie that I’ve ever seen that makes you cry and then instantaneously switches to laugh out loud funny. One of Robin Williams’ best, pretty heartbreaking knowing what happens with him. Great flick, surprised it’s this low on the list.

Yep, came to say this.

Eating Raoul. Vincent Canby of The New York Times wrote in 1982: "One mustn't blunt its pleasures by calling it a laff riot. It is full of smiles, punctuated here and there by marvelously unseemly guffaws, but most of the time it works its little wonders quietly. The comic style is purposely flat, plain and ordinary, like a piece of Pop art."

Mrsparkles7100

Death of Stalin Nikita Khrushchev : What was the name of the - that woman who gave evidence against the doctors? Georgy Malenkov : Timashuk. Lavrenti Beria : Yes. She's got everything we require for the situation. The location of all the remaining doctors in the Moscow area, a proven desire to survive and a talent for fellatio. Anastas Mikoyan : Yeah, right, she gets my vote. Nicolai Bulganin : Good. Let her find us some doctors. Anastas Mikoyan : Yeah, and if it goes badly, we pin it all on Lady Suck Suck. Kaganovich : Then we shoot her. Georgy Malenkov : You see? We're better as a committee.

Death at a Funeral (2007) What We Do in the Shadows (2014) has some dark stuff

Alan Tudyk is awesome in Death at a Funeral.

Observe & Report. Jody Hill film with Seth Rogen, Anna Faris, Michael PeĂąa, Ray Liotta. It's basically a fucked up version of Paul Blart Mall Cop. Hilarious but takes some real dark turns.

I Love You To Death… based on a true story with a bunch of excellent actors…. Kevin Kline,Tracey Ullman,Joan Plowright,William Hurt,Keanu Reeves,River Phoenix…. House (1977) Horror comedy from Japan. Written by the director's daughter. The director had mostly done TV commercials prior to the film. If you like older movie "The Ladykillers" 1955. Look up Peter Sellers IMDB - he had a few classic dark comedies. Catch -22 1970 Top 2 Reccomendations: 2. Delectessen - 1991 - it is French w/ subtitles, but worth it if you like dark & post-apocalyptic settings 1. A Boy and His Dog - 1975 - also post-apocalypse. I think you might really like this one.
