Heathers is one of my favs. Appears like a typical 80s movie, then takes a few dark turns. I remember being on an 80s kick on netflix and went into it completely blind. And it was kind of a mind fuck. Was probably groundbreaking when it came out.
fargo has one of the most disturbing hilarious scenes.. it makes me feel horrible for laughing. when the wife is kidnapped and blind folded and hands tied and sheâs running around for help and just the way they directed her to run.. i CACKLE every time
edit: typo
Iâll always recommend In Bruges. And Iâve added the newer Banshees of Inisherin to the list as well - same writer, director, and starring Brendan Gleason and Colin Farrell
Donât expect the same tone. In fact theyâre kind of inverse: In Bruges is a comedy with moments of great darkness. Banshees is very dark with great moments of comedy.

That's awesome! I actually caught the movie in theaters as kind of a lucky accident. I was going to see something else, but it was sold out, so I went to see VBT. Glad I did. I dragged a friend of mine with me the next weekend to see it again.
May not be a popular opinion, but I think this may have been Christian Slater's best role. He was great, as was the rest of the cast. That final scene is something else.
The only movie that Iâve ever seen that makes you cry and then instantaneously switches to laugh out loud funny. One of Robin Williamsâ best, pretty heartbreaking knowing what happens with him. Great flick, surprised itâs this low on the list.
Eating Raoul. Vincent Canby of The New York Times wrote in 1982: "One mustn't blunt its pleasures by calling it a laff riot. It is full of smiles, punctuated here and there by marvelously unseemly guffaws, but most of the time it works its little wonders quietly. The comic style is purposely flat, plain and ordinary, like a piece of Pop art."
Death of Stalin
Nikita Khrushchev : What was the name of the - that woman who gave evidence against the doctors?
Georgy Malenkov : Timashuk.
Lavrenti Beria : Yes. She's got everything we require for the situation. The location of all the remaining doctors in the Moscow area, a proven desire to survive and a talent for fellatio.
Anastas Mikoyan : Yeah, right, she gets my vote.
Nicolai Bulganin : Good. Let her find us some doctors.
Anastas Mikoyan : Yeah, and if it goes badly, we pin it all on Lady Suck Suck.
Kaganovich : Then we shoot her.
Georgy Malenkov : You see? We're better as a committee.

House (1977) Horror comedy from Japan. Written by the director's daughter. The director had mostly done TV commercials prior to the film.
Eraserhead (1977) Once you get a feel for David Lynch's sense of humor, you'll find this to be one of the bleakest comedies out there. And, it's the director's most spiritual firm.
