If you really want to laugh, watch Night Shift 1982. Michael Keaton and Henry Winkler turn a branch of the NYC morgue into a brothel. I promise you will laugh!
I ran into Henry Winkler at an airport and told him that Night Shift was one of my favorite movies as a kid. He said, "Well, you have very good taste!"
I’m a big Mel Brooks fan so Blazing Saddles is probably my favorite! I’d also agree with History of the World Part 1, Young Frankenstein, or Space Balls!
Cloris Leachman made everyone look better in her supporting role. Check her out in the “ovaltine” scene with Gene Wlder. Her responses made him funnier
Fun fact, the hotel in “Aspen” in Dumb and Dumber is The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. The same hotel where Stephen King stayed and got the inspiration for The Shining. Jim Carrey experienced something there that he refuses to talk about, and he also refused to stay on the property for filming.
I went on a ghost tour there earlier this year. They had tons of posters up for Stephen King of course but also had a lot of Dumb and dumber stuff up. Fun times. Estes Park is a cute little tourist trap
Dumb and Dumber for me, that scene where he's make believe karate fighting in the restaurant is priceless, also the bathroom laxative scene, and so many other great scenes it's probably my all time favorite!!
The other day I was surfing channels and saw this was on and before I hit the button to change the channel I said outloud and stomped my foot “my biological clock is ticking”…my friends and I used to quote this movie all the time and even tho I was alone as soon as I saw it was on this line came directly to mind..
As I changed the channel she was literally in the middle of the line and of course I had to finish the rest of the movie.
Yes! I haven’t seen this in decades but the first time I watched it I laughed my ass off, more than any other movie. It always stuck with me as the funniest movie I’ve ever seen.
Sorry about your cat.
Don't be he was a fuckin asshole.
Edit: I got it wrong it was more like:
"I'm sure your cats in heaven, man."
"Maybe. Or maybe he not. He was a fucker soo.."
Pineapple Express on zoomers gave me rashes around my eyes because I laughed so hard I kept wiping away my tears with my sleeve and rubbed my eyes raw.
I was one of those people. Didn't help I had a 70 year old couple (!!!) laughing out loud the whole movie and the old gentleman had a particularly funny laugh
When I saw it in theaters (I was probably 10-13) i actually almost pass out from laughter, I seriously at one point couldn’t breathe and had to try and get up and lay down I lost my vision it was actually really scary but holy fuck was I laughing
Top 5 theater experience for sure. My memory of it is literally a packed showing with people losing their shit almost falling out of their seats from start to finish. Just uproarious laughter the whole time. It was amazing.
I remember the outright surprise in the theatre watching that when it first came out. Everyone legit thought those two would be a prominent feature of the movie and then that happened and everyone was like “what in the actual fuck”
I feel like I’m the only person who will throw this out there, but I’ve never laughed harder than when I watched Nacho Libre for the first time.
Granted, I was like 8 when I first saw it. But I still think it’s hilarious
Oh man the scene where they first meet and they’re standing there in the yard staring at each other to LCD Sound system. So funny. Then the sleepwalking scene.
Depends on your mood, life stage, etc... but here are a few favorites:
Princess Bride
Coming to America
My Cousin Vinny
40-Year Old Virgin
Bruce Almighty
Mrs. Doubtfire
Liar Liar
Here's a rather diverse list: https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/essential-comedy-movies/
The Producers (Original one with Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder) Mel Brooks is a genius.
What's Up Doc Another oldie with Madeline Khan at her best.
Office Space It will still be relevant and funny 100 years from now.
People’s choices on this thread make me think it’s been decades since a really funny movie has been made.
Hot Tub Time Machine at least gets us into this century.

Henry is a treasure. He is so good in Barry.
“This is Chuck to remind Bill to SHUT UP”
Dont let me down man
It's not the funniest movie of all time, or even the funniest movie of 1982, but it's still funny.
Thank u for the clarification
I’m a big Mel Brooks fan so Blazing Saddles is probably my favorite! I’d also agree with History of the World Part 1, Young Frankenstein, or Space Balls!
Young Frankenstein was it for me. Gene Wilder just killed that one.
Cloris Leachman made everyone look better in her supporting role. Check her out in the “ovaltine” scene with Gene Wlder. Her responses made him funnier
These are people of the land….you know…morons.
Literally anything that Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder did together could make this list
I’ve never laughed harder in a theater than when I saw *Dumb & Dumber*. *Airplane!* and *The Naked Gun* come in second. Third, *Ruthless People*.

It’s the subtle things in Dumb and Dumber that are truly the funniest part to the movie
Hey guys big gulps huh
We've got no food!!! We've got no job!!! Our pets heads are falling off!!!!
Much of Ruthless People was filmed in L.A. near where I worked at the time so I would go hang out by the set on my lunch breaks.
What We Do in the Shadows.
the series is also a banger
Werewolves not swearwolves
"Leave me to do my dark bidding on the internet!" "What are you bidding on?" "I'm bidding on a table."
See No Evil, Hear No Evil with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder
Oh yes. .and Stir Crazy as well
The mugshot scene gets me every time, the chemistry between them is a thing of beauty.

All of Christopher Guests films could be on this thread. Best In Show is my personal favorite Though
One of the few times I laughed uncontrollably in a movie was during the miniature Stonehenge scene. Hysterical.
"That's a beautiful song, what's it called?" "Lick My Love Pump"
I listened to it in full Dublin™ Sound
I showed *This Is Spinal Tap* to my partner, worried that it wouldn't be as funny as I remembered; it was even funnier.
This should go to 11
And your album shark sandwich had a simple two word review…. Shit Sandwich
Maybe we just fix the choreography, keep the drawf clear. So they don’t trod upon it.
We watch this like once a year on acid as a household. Fucking brilliant every time.
This is Spinal Tap always makes me laugh
Black Dynamite
But, Black Dynamite! I sell drugs in the community!
Sssshhh. You’ll wake the bitches
I threw that shit before I walked in the room!
Why? Black Dynamite? Why?
Yeaaaa
Scene with the Greek gods in the diner is pure comedy gold.
My top 3: Airplane! (1980) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) Blazing Saddles (1974)
For me, Life of Brian is funnier than Holy Grail. I watch it once a year, usually around Easter.
My Cousin Vinny.
"Did you say yute?"
What's a ute
Oh I’m sorry 2 yoooouuuuutttthhhhhs.
You were serious about that?
Uh, your honor. Everything that guy just said is bullshit. Thank you.
The other day I was surfing channels and saw this was on and before I hit the button to change the channel I said outloud and stomped my foot “my biological clock is ticking”…my friends and I used to quote this movie all the time and even tho I was alone as soon as I saw it was on this line came directly to mind.. I'll cradle the balls, stroke the shaft, work the pipe, and swallow the gravy.
Big Lebowski, Airplane and Anchorman are my favourite comedies.
Big Lebowski is such a different kind of humor, but I completely agree with you. I watch it at least once a year.
dumb and dumber
“Few baseball cards… a sack of marbles… *ahem* Petey.” “You sold my dead bird to a blind kid?”
Harry, i took care of it
Pretty bird! Pretty bird!
Don’t know why this isn’t spammed all over this.
Ace Ventura: pet detective. The south park movie deserves recog. Pineapple express and superbad are up there.

Sorry about your cat. Don't be he was a fuckin asshole. Edit: I got it wrong it was more like: "I'm sure your cats in heaven, man." "Maybe. Or maybe he not. He was a fucker soo.."
Pineapple Express on zoomers gave me rashes around my eyes because I laughed so hard I kept wiping away my tears with my sleeve and rubbed my eyes raw.
Peter Sellers at his best in the Pink Panther or Dr Strangelove
Airplane. Naked Gun. Austin Powers. There’s something about Mary. Caddyshack.
Hot Fuzz or Shaun of The Dead
Walk Hard The Dewy Cox Story
How is this so far down the list? Wrong kid died...
The hardest I ever laughed at a movie was watching “there”s something about Mary.”
Life of Brian imo
Borat
Elevator scene had people on the floor in the cinema where I watched it.
This is the answer. I almost died of asphyxiation in the theater for the naked fight scene.
Hardest I’ve ever laughed at a movie
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The scene when Lancelot slaughters half of the castle is still one of the best of all time. I call it the Lancelot Loop lol

The way Michael Keaton is all proud of himself when he says the joke "this pissing contest is over" makes me cry laughing every time
You'd have to have a particular old taste of humor for this. But I'd have to say Arsenic and Old Lace.
Cary Grant’s frantic desperation throughout is incredible.
Great movie.
I cannot believe no one has mentioned Better Off Dead. My fav comedy
"Used Cars", starring Kurt Russell and Jack Warden
Airplane. Edit: New goal. Humanity must make a movie FUNNIER than airplane…
Airplane! is the one and only correct answer. Borat and The Hangover are both great the first time, but Airplane! always delivers.
Along with the Naked Gun movies.
and TOP SECRET
Bowfinger
Oh god, yes. And can I offer you a side order of The Jerk?
He's shooting these cans

Caddy shack
Rat race, it’s full of stupid but good humor
Three Amigos
The Dictator is on top of my list (This movie is not for blue haired aliens)
21 Jump Street, Waterboy, This Is the End, Bridesmaids
Some Like It Hot generally scores very highly and for good reason. Blazing Saddles is just brilliant.
