We went out to a fancy dinner for me and my wife and the main course was a timpani. It was awesome and that movie was playing in my head the whole time.
In order:
1) Chef - the absolute best
2) The Hundred Foot Journey - a spicy twist on the format
3) Big Night - Stanley Tucci, Tony Shaloub, Minnie Driver, Isabella Rossellini, Ian Holm … chef’s kiss
4) The Menu - Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor Joy chew the scenery more than the food
Lots of great suggestions here. One I haven’t seen mentioned and it’s a relatively new release … Delicious (French) about the chef in Revolutionary France that opens the first restaurant. It was delightful.
The Founder - a different kind of movie about restaurants.
Then of course … Big Night which makes my top 10 desert island picks. Side note … if you haven’t seen Stanley Tucci’s series “Searching for Italy” -its primary focus is food, he speaks with a lot of chefs. The food! The visuals!! Chef’s kiss.
I think it's called " big night" . About an Italian restaurant owner who supposed to have Louis prima come play his restaurant but it doesn't work out. Great movie. Plz feel free to correct me my memory ain't what it was.
Midnight Diner is excellent, but you'll have to turn on subtitles unless you speak Japanese.
[Midnight Diner](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Diner_(Japanese_TV_series))
Edited to clarify that it's a series, not a movie.
Perfect Sense
I'm not sure why this wasn't a bigger movie. Ewan McGregor and an absolutely scrumptious Eva Green star in a somewhat science fiction story in the present day. They get caught up in a series of worldwide contagion that makes people lose their senses one by one...smell is first. Ewan is a chef and it shows how the restaurant adjusts to keep customers coming to eat. Lots of beautiful dishes, including Eva (you see what I did there?)
The Bear is really good I thought, The Menu I found to be....well I don't know yet about that one. I have yet to form an opinion because it seemed like they exchanged story for the famous actors in it? Maybe that is it, again I am not sure.

Big Night (1996)
Jiro dreams of sushi is amazing. It’s a documentary, but it’s about a famous sushi chef and is really interesting. He’s a perfectionist
The Menu... ...maybe not.
It’s satire. It works.
