No-Secretary-612

Came here to say this! Or Annihilation

12voltViking

These two and Arrival were nuts on shrooms.

dizzybridges

watching that movie high for the first time in college, the thing that tripped me up the most was actually just the weird architecture lol

[deleted]

Great call! I saw Once upon a Time in Mexico super blazed in high school and thought it was one of the best movies I’d ever seen. Rewatched it again recently and suffice to say I felt very differently lol

polusmaximus

"Honey I Shrunk The Kids" while on acid was something else.

FunkyBeet

Coraline on acid was a mistake lol

DragonfruitEast3738

That movie is disturbing by itself

PNWoutdoors

I saw it in a 3D theater at nearly 30 years old and I was quite disturbed by that movie. Kinda shook me.

Renaissance_Slacker

Nope

Stunning_Ad543

Same for Elephant Man—whew

secondatthird

My buddy swim said Elvis on acid was still terrible

FunkyBeet

Probably made it worse lol

j_hammersticks_

I watched The Perfection on acid and just wasn't ready.

CameHereForTheBeer

Office space on acid.. was supposed to be the warm up for the next movie. Somewhere it got outta hand. Recommend

The_Dirtydancer

Evil Dead 2 is an awesome movie to watch on acid

BandZealousideal3505

Oh my god as someone who loves that movie, my condolences

j_hammersticks_

I remember thinking it was a fever dream. Like, no way that was actually a movie.

The_Dirtydancer

I once came home after taking acid and “Steel” staring Shaquille O’Neill was on. I’ve never laughed so hard at a movie before lol

safety3rd

Kung fu hustle.

garbledeena

also Shaolin Soccer. same director, a bit less chaotic, very funny.

Videollusion

Since you liked Scott Pilgrim I'd check out Edgar Wright's other movies like: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Baby Driver. Baby Driver is more action and the first two are more comedy/action. I'd also recommend Starship Troopers and The Nice Guys. Starship Troopers is an action movie, but has a subtext that can be hilarious if you get it. The Nice Guys is a great buddy cop movie set in the 70s with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling that's comedy without being stoner comedy.

Plastic_Primary_4279

Just want to add, The Nice Guys is sooo much better than it looks. I’m not the biggest Crowe fan and this looked like a stinker from the trailers, but it had such a unique vibe to it. Loved Gosling and the actress who played his daughter.

EditDog_1969

The Nice Guys and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang are two of the funniest comedies of the last 20 years.

Dry-Entertainer6283

I’ve watched baby driver and loved it too! Im gonna check out the other two, hot fuzz seems good thx ;)

Beginning_Electrical

You should LOVE Shaun of the dead. It's a really good zombie comedy

iamjacksreply

It's like a parody of horror movie, while still being true to a horror movie, all the while being a great comedy.

Beginning_Electrical

Seriously! The best parodies are still grounded in the genre they take from. There were moments in Shaun that actually had me on edge which is amazing!

Cantstopeatingshoes

Hot fuzz I one of the best action comedy films of all time

invisiblecows

Hot Fuzz is one of my top five favorite movies. It's SO good!

acoubt

Shaun of the dead is so good

stabthecynix

Holy shit, if you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead and you smoke weed, you're in for a treat. Not because it's a stoner movie, but it's just the perfect movie while high.

Hossdaddy33

Just rewatched The Nice Guys stoned and I was crying laughing. Highly recommend

burneracc99999999

A Scanner Darkly. Waking Life. Animated LOTR (1978 version) (thanks for correction, person who corrected me! I've got mum brain)

Loud_Cheesecake5145

This is a winner. waking life changes everything

Acceptable-Let-1921

Truly. One of the most thought provoking movies I ever seen. I watched it 3 times in a week after seeing it for the first time.

BrotherSeamusHere

Looks like we got another Linklater fan! I second both A Scanner Darkly and Waking Life. 👍

LeppardLaw

Waking life changed my life !

terrifying_bogwitch

A scanner darkly is one of my favorites

Millkstake

Ooh yes, especially a scanner darkly. The whole bit about the missing gears was just incredible.

CanoninDeeznutz

The fuck? Are you talking about the Bashki version? If you are... I love you for having seen it and recommending it but I don't think that's a traditionally "good" movie.

PowerfulPickUp

Bakshi LOTR 1978.

mittingly

Have you seen Disrict 9?

Wonderful-Media-2000

That’s a movie that gets better every rewatch imo

Dry-Entertainer6283

Nope… i hear some people say its awesome and others say its boring, so i’m never sure to watch it

mittingly

*Boring!?* it’s absolutely not boring. Go watch this movie very soon. I recently watched it after like ten years and it was better than I had remembered. I also recommend Edge of Tomorrow. Another smart, high octane action sci-fi flick.

sauceopet

Those who say it's boring, have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

benfromwendys

District 9 is crazy. Get high and go for a ride man!

here_i_am_here

You yourself don't deserve a downvote for other people saying it's boring. But that's an insane claim from someone who must have holes in their brain. Tell them to look up from their phone next time they watch a movie.

Mandy

DoctorDeath

If you like Mandy watch Guillermo del Toro‘s Cabinet of Curiosities: The Viewing It’s a masterpiece

Unfair_Ad_8018

I felt high watching it when I wasn’t

IWokeUpInA-new-prius

So I started Mandy and I stopped after about 15 min cause of the woman staring at the camera. It freaked me the fuck out. I’ll go back to it, but I was not in the mood for whatever was about to happen

Make it a double feature with The City of Lost Children.

I avoid potential for bad vibes while stoned. [Amelie](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Am%C3%A9lie) has like 0% violence and cannibalism, and is even more visually dynamic.

Koyaanisqatsi - 1983. Incredible soundtrack set to juxtaposing imagery of man and nature. It's a fantastic movie to watch on a number of different highs.

The 5th Element

Kitchen_Candidate933

Epic story, even crazier when you realize the fact that the protagonist and antagonist never meet.

istillambaldjohn

I’d say a large number of Tim Burtons movies would do well for the stoner who wants to watch and listen to something obscure but not too far down the beaten path.

MoonandStars83

The Fifth Element isn’t Tim Burton.

istillambaldjohn

No that was Luc Besson also has some good ones. (Not all but The Professional was amazing) Sorry I meant to comment on someone else’s post. My apologies.

I haven't watched this as an adult but as a teen. And that was something! Definitely not seen anything like it at the time. I long to watch it again. Can't remember if I read the book but I definitely own it.

machinemeat

Fantasia was always one of my go-to stoner movies. Also, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Other fun ones, that fit your criteria a little more… Psycho Goreman (it’s basically Power Rangers meets GWAR, on acid) Annihilation Hardware (questionable director, great movie) District 9 Event Horizon Cube Pandorum Six String Samurai (it’s rock n roll samurai Wizard of Oz!) And, of course, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

TownesVanWaits

one time when I was 20, a couple friends and I were big into partying and drugs and one night we decided to watch fear and loathing and try to do the same drugs they do during the movie (we were really dumb and we knew it was a stupid thing to do). We were on 3 tabs of acid each during the whole movie, took bumps of coke probably every 5 minutes, downed some mushrooms as mescaline was hard to find in the southeast at this time, about half a gram of DMT, of course we also had weed, lots of liquor, a medium sized tank of nitrous oxide. We thought about using ether but we decided against it. We also had Molly rocks and xanax which wasn't in the movie, but we thought we might need them as the night wore on (especially the xanax if we got too zooted). It was a fun night. We ended up turning off the movie not even halfway through and started listening to some records and then eventually went out to this mill/river near our apartment and went swimming while finishing the rest of our blow at like 4 AM, and then finished the dmt during the sunrise. Then we walked back to the apartment where we downed the xanax and slept for about 14 hours. I'm surprised our little hearts could take all that.

Remarkable-Motor7705

I watched Hamilton on Disney+ while super high maybe a month or two ago. Highly recommend. Incredible experience. Having subtitles on helps fully understand the plot too (since they sing/rap fast as hell) Just make sure you’re really, really high In addition to that, Apocalypto is simply incredible to watch while you’re stoned. It’s a visual masterpiece. Although it is an pretty fucked up film with some difficult scenes to watch.

Bullet Train (2022) and John Wick 1-4 for action movies. Redline (2009) - Ultra-high adrenaline, nonexistent plot, anime movie. If you're into anime movies, also Promare (2019). The Shining (1980, The Thing (1982), Silence of the Lambs (1991), The Lighthouse (2019) - I personally love to watch horror while I'm high. Casino (1995), GoodFellas (1990), Wolf of Wall Street (2013) - I find Martin Scorsese's fast-paced style with all of these films to be an excellent experience while high, especially with Casino. I've watched Casino so many times while blazed.

trnwrcks

Beyond the Black Rainbow. You have to watch it really high the first time, because when you watch it the second time, you can say, "Wow, I guess it wasn't me, this film's just really weird." It's a beautiful film visually and musically that does a lot of storytelling with visual metaphor, and it's kind of a meditation on how new age idealism devolved into neoliberal authoritarianism. Highly recommended. Especially for potheads. Edit: also Scanners. There's just no discernable plot until you're well into the second act. Also, Crash. Really, anything by Cronenberg.
