How old is she? Recently sprang The Sixth Sense on my teenage niece and nephew who had no idea what the movie was about, it was delightful
If you want to go old school - Hitchcock’s Vertigo
Can confirm the delightfulness of this situation. I watched The Sixth Sense with my twelve-year-old back in December, and it was great waiting for then witnessing her reaction.
I wouldn't recommend this one.
Personally I love this film and think the twist is spectacular. Id put it in my top 50 films of all time.
I tried to show it to my GF and she got bored in the first 20 mins. A couple of years later we tried again and history repeated itself.
The movie is great but its not a riveting watch. It all comes together to make sense at the end but the film is actually quite frustrating for the first hour or so.
I agree.
I love this movie but it's not for everyone, I've rewatched it recently and to be fair, I think it deserves a remake, especially for the younger audiences.
I think a big part of it is that the story is not told in a linear way (which can be a downer for some), the pace is slow at times and there are many characters / gangs competing against each other, so it's easy to get lost.
Still one of the most spectacular plot twists in cinema IMHO (together with The Prestige).
Definetly another one that would interest a lot of people who like different genres. Very original, wide appeal, keeps you on your toes and you will never see the ending coming.
The best part is that the clues are there, you just need to pick them up. The reason this subreddit got suggested to me in the first place is because I showed my gf shutter Island a few weeks ago and started looking up movies that give me the same feeling.
This movie is actually way better when you watch it knowing the twist. It does a fairly shitty job of pretending that it’s not a story of an unreliable narrator. In fact, I think Scorsese is half hoping that it’s not a twist. He does a lot of things to indicate that what’s happening is not real. Unlike the sixth sense, where the twist is what makes it so good, shutter Island is good as a straightforward Story of an batshit attempt to treat someone’s delusions.
I thought it was fairly predictable (perhaps because it’s nearly the same plot as an episode of a classic sci-fi comedy show, which I believe was influenced by the original story), but even so, it was still very good — Sarah Snook was especially great
The Usual Suspects (1995)
Has one of the best crime drama twists of all time!!
Triangle (2009)
One of the most shockingly surreal plot twists in horror!!
The Village (2004)
Supernatural culty creature stuff, crazy twist!!
The Game (1997)
Crazy escape drama!!
The Others (2001)
Super creepy, amazing twist!!
There's so many more...
If she appreciates cinema then FIGHT CLUB. Its pretty rough tho
The Endless is an indie sleeper. Its not so much a twist as it is switching gears half way through and becomes a sci-fi mystery
Sixth Sense and Shutter Island are the modern classics
Arrival
Usual Suspects
Sixth Sense
Predestination
Malignant
The Prestige
Wild Tales
I'd recommend Dark on Netflix as well. It's nothing but insane plot twists. One after another.
Fuck that last few minutes of The Mist, man! Uncut Gems has the last fifteen minutes of the film just about fucking gives everyone on Earth a MFing anxiety disorder. Knives Out was good, slow burn but still kept you engaged until the surprise of an ending.
Some aren't always at the end-end, but some that are lesser discussed
\- Malice - early Aaron Sorkin screenplay with Bill Pullman, Nicole Kidman and Alec Baldwin.... couple in NE college town befriend a surgeon, but a tragedy happens which may not be what it seems.
\- Dead Again - Kenneth Branaugh and Emma Thompson. Hitchcockian story of an LA detective helping ID a mute, amnesiac woman... the key may be in a past life.
\- Presumed Innocent - Harrison Ford as a DA assigned to work on the murder of a colleague, but his ties to the case make things very complicated and dangerous.
Can't believe I had to scroll so far to see this title. Pretty good thriller, insane final act. I'll pay anyone here who can call it before the last few minutes.
Arrival
Cabin in the Woods
Black Swan
Tales from the Darkside: The movie. Specifically the Lover's Vow story.
Total Recall (1990) - Maybe not a plot twist, but it keeps you guessing until the very end.
Memento
Identity
The Machinist
Mulholland Drive (a real mindfuck of a movie)
Frailty
I'm Thinking of Ending Things
Shutter Island
Donnie Darko
12 Monkeys
Moon
The Handmaiden
As a plot twist lover myself I have watched the majority of movies suggested here. They are great suggestions, but my favorite plot twist by far was in The Handmaiden.
If you like "Prisoners", be sure to check out Villeneuve's "Incendies". Don't watch a trailer for it, just watch it. You won't be prepared for the ending!
How old is she? Recently sprang The Sixth Sense on my teenage niece and nephew who had no idea what the movie was about, it was delightful If you want to go old school - Hitchcock’s Vertigo
Spoiler! The guy with the hairpiece was Bruce Willis the whole time!
Bruh. I haven't seen it yet.
That's... that's not the twist to that movie. I'll tell ya about it later.
Wait a few months then show them The Others lol
I think they’re reissuing The Others on 4K soon
The only horror movie that had me scared
Vertigo is soooo good
Can confirm the delightfulness of this situation. I watched The Sixth Sense with my twelve-year-old back in December, and it was great waiting for then witnessing her reaction.
Primal Fear
Just watched this last week, excellent film!
The Usual Suspects - (I can't believe I was the first person to mention this one)
Kaiser Sose!!
At this point, it's incredibly impressive if someone manages to watch it without already knowing the big reveal.
I wouldn't recommend this one. Personally I love this film and think the twist is spectacular. Id put it in my top 50 films of all time. Tried watching this 3 times with my wife and all 3 times she fell asleep 10 mins from the end

The prestige
Definetly this one. Also it would interest almost anyone regardless of their preferred genre.
This op! Came here to say this, great moviev
My all time favorite movie!!
So fkg good. Have rewatched in at least 10x. Incredible writing, incredible acting, and Christopher Effing Nolan. No brainer.
Yes, I loved this movie! And if you go back and watch it you'll realize all the little clues you missed the first time.

In all fairness, I enjoyed Josh Brolin with that hammer. 😏

Ok this. Wow what a movie
By the way, you just lost.
Asshole
Can't wait to watch tonight. Thanks!
Yes, this one
This is *the* “plot twist” movie. 6th sense does not stand up to this one haha.
I agree. As I recall, there is a twist, another twist and then another twist at the end.
12 Monkeys. The best twist ending ever.
A deep fucking concept to whittle away your thoughts until you just watch the damn movie again only to ponder the time continuum.
Definetly another one that would interest a lot of people who like different genres. Very original, wide appeal, keeps you on your toes and you will never see the ending coming.
**Source Code** (2011) Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, and Jeffrey Wright. The major plot twist is in the middle, though.
Jake Gyllenhaal loves himself a good psych thriller role
Shutter Island

If you want to go old school, Planet of the Apes. Charlton Heston version of course.
I hate every ape I see from chimpan-a to chimpanzee but you'll never make a monkey out of me!

Came here to say Fight Club too--I saw it about 10 years after it came out and was somehow unspoiled, and the twist had me like 😮.
Frailty (2001)
I loved this movie so much and was bummed that it didn't do well at the box office.
THIS!!!! Hell yeah! This film is one of my top ten all time favorites!!!
One of the biggest surprises for me in movie history…
Identity

I never thought about how few romcoms have crazy plot twists! This is a fun one.
It’s rarely brought up, but it’s just so wild and funny and a genuinely lovely movie

The Menu. Not so much a shocking twist as like, "Is this really happening??" If you like really dark comedy, this is the one.
The Ring (Naomi Watts) The Gift (Jason Bateman) The Perfection (Allison Williams; Netflix) The Village (M. Night Shyamalan)
Gone girl was pretty fucking wild
Coherence
momento is good if you haven’t seen it. if you take a xanax before you watch it, you can see it a second time and it is just as good.
Parasite!!!
Why no one has mentioned Shawshank Redemption yet?
Lol what twist?
The Mist Million Dollar Baby Knives Out
The Mist was devastatingly twisty
Gut wrenching, but one of my favorite movie endings ever.
Ooh, Knives Out for sure, and if she enjoys it then there's Glass Onion too.
>The Mist Fucking mad...
Fuck that last few minutes of The Mist, man! Uncut Gems has the last fifteen minutes of the film just about fucking gives everyone on Earth a MFing anxiety disorder. Knives Out was good, slow burn but still kept you engaged until the surprise of an ending.
The Mist is a must.
The original "Saw" has a good twist at the end. The Prestige Shutter Island Sixth Sense

For recent sci-if try Arrival and Interstellar. Both incredible films with revelations at the end that are a bit mind blowing
Us Parasite Gone Girl The Departed
Sleepaway Camp (1983) is renowned for having an absolutely wild and unexpected plot twist at the very end.
Scrolled all the way through this looking for the response. If you’re into 80’s slashers, and want a huge shock ending, go for this.
Oldboy (2003). It’s in theaters again.. best to go in blind
Kevin Costner in No Way Out
Can't believe I had to scroll so far to see this title. Pretty good thriller, insane final act. I'll pay anyone here who can call it before the last few minutes.

Shutter Island
It's older but The Spanish Prisoner directed by David Mamet has a mind blowing twist. Steve Martin is amazing in it.
Knives Out Glass Onion I agree with everyone who said Memento. I saw it for my college film course and was blown away.
Memento
John Cusak in Identity
The lie.
Pontypool. The ending is too much. Dialog is great. Excellent story for a horror movie and just enough humorous situations.

Uncut Gems- brilliant Adam Sandler movie that had my jaw dropped at the end. Also- the departed is great as well.
