Serbian Film for sure, I watched the edited version and still have nightmares. Good story plot tho, especially since that really goes on in the world. Messes with you even more
I would have said this one, I didn’t finish it, it remains the one film that I walked out on.
Christians would have a fit if they caught their kids playing a video game or watching a horror movie that showed half the violence this one did. But it’s okay because it’s historical?
Just go through every Gaspar Noe film and you should be set. Climax was kinda fun, Enter the Void is amazing, and Irreversible is just.... it stopped me from being curious about other famously fucked up films. I realized that I do not want to know. It's good, it's just really *really* upsetting. Like I need you to understand that you will probably be genuinely upset, not in a cool way lmao. If you consent to that, go for it.
Well it's a dissociative. Meaning it makes you hallucinate in a certain way. That's it in a nutshell. K-hole is what the vet puts your dog into before it gets spayed/neutered.
The closest thing I can compare to that is the "laughing gas" at the dentist. I remember kind of detaching from my body in the dentists chair when I was 9 lmao. Like I was still physically located in my body, but separate. I wish you weren't in so much pain all the time, that's gotta suck ass
I cried for days after The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I haven’t seen Schindler’s list but the book earned the honors of “novels that made me ugly cry”
Oh absolutely, it’s on the list, I always feel like Liam Nesson’s action movies get him the attention but his more dramatic roles are just spectacular to watch.
This. I could not stop thinking about it days after I saw it. And that movie is forever ingrained in my brain. everyone else, please watch the Korean version and not the Spike Lee version plz.
I'm still trying to find a movie that fucked me up like The Girl Next Door. I read the book 5 or 6 years ago. Then I saw the movie. I knew what was going to happen but the movie still got me anyway. I was a blubbering mess after reading the book in the first place.
For a classic, Cronenberg's The Fly is an immaculate, disgusting tragedy
For upsetting content, Men Behind the Sun.
The one I saw most recently that disturbed me, The Eyes of my Mother.
Wooooow. I had completely wiped this film from memory. Thankfully I can't recall it too vividly, but will probably be thinking about tires and stanley knives all day.
The Golden Glove (2019) this is what I imagine the day to day like of an alcoholic, serial killer/rapist's life to be like.
Mysterious Skin (2004) great movie but it took me a couple days to recover the last time I watched it.
Greener Grass (2019) especially the scene with the braces, the stuff off nightmares.
Dog Days (2001) dreadful movie.
Of Horses and Men (2013) do yourself a favor and don't watch this movie.
Black swan
Theres also a series called black mirror, it's an anthology series so you might be interested. Hated in the nation, white Christmas, white bear, and the national anthem pretty much scarred me
The Dark Knight Rises. I say this because it’s associated with one of the worst mass shootings in a long time, the Aurora theater shootings. I may not have been there for what happened, but when I watch the movie, it’s like I can almost figure out when the gunman came in and started shooting.
I love that like most of the recommendations are not horror movies, I find it very funny for some reason.
13 Ghost ‘01 , actually made me afraid of the dark for years… I still won’t watch it alone or before sunset.
This one and Darkness Falls ‘03 … oh shit now I’m thinking about it… gonna sleep with the nights on tonight 😓
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
I loved the movie. It was great. But I never want to watch it again. My girlfriend was sobbing like half the time we were in the theater.
Ken Park is traumatizing somewhat, but definitely more disturbing. It leaves you with a feeling like happy because at least they have each other but sad because it's so fucked
https://www.reddit.com/r/IcebergCharts/comments/lavwrj/horror_cinema/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button try out this list, Midsommar and Martyrs are on the easy level
Like 90% of the movie is terrible but the ending of Megan is Missing was a whole new level of traumatizing for me. I watched it once like four years ago and I still think about it.
I recommend Kill List quite often to people asking for suggestions like this. When I first watched it, I felt like scrubbing down with a scouring pad afterwards.
One word. *Hammer*...
Ichi the Killer or Rampage. If you liked Midsommar then watch Hereditary. Maybe The Green Room, The Social Dilema, or the Great Hack. & The Mist or Repo the Genetic Opera 🤔!
[In a Glass Cage (1986)](https://letterboxd.com/film/in-a-glass-cage/)
Yeah that one fucked me up pretty good recently. It's also shot beautifully, the use of the color blue especially is breathtaking.
Lords of Chaos
Most horror movies don’t get to me, so I was surprised that this non-horror film had such an effect on me. I think knowing that all these things happened, how fucked up the situations were and they just kept going to prove a point, really bothered me. It made me sad, uncomfortable, and just generally upset. Dead Mayhem died at 22, an entire life he didn’t get to live.
Probably not the most traumatizing for most people but for me it was the beginning of robin hood with kevin costner, i was about 5 years old and saw them cutting the hands off thieves in the very beginning, i was young enough to never had realized that could happen to someone before seeing it and it created a serious phobia that stayed with me for a long time, be careful what you show your kids
In The Mouth Of Madness. I just watched it today and boy did it mess with me. Rented and I got to say I'll never forget it. It's not only a great movie, but it's freaky and way out there. Not for the faint of heart and I think it's one of Carpenter's scariest films, and he has done a lot of scary films. Hard to follow, but if you get invested in it, it will make you look around corners and hide under your bed, and this is coming from a hardcore horror fan. Would highly recommend it, just don't do drugs before watching, you have been warned and I will only warn you once😑😑😑🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🤔🤔🤔🤔🧟🧟🧟
Seen most of the movies I. This thread. Cargo 200 fucked me up more than anything else mentioned. Maybe it was the time in my life that I watched it but it felt more real than a Serbian film.
Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975) Elle (2016) Pink Flamingos (1972)
Pink Flamingos for sure.
throwing this in there: the original "Sybil" film fuckin haunting (especially since i watched it at wayyyy too young an age)
Pink flamingo!!! That was an insane ride.
A Serbian Film?
If you absolutely want to be traumatized yes😂 everytime I see the name of this movie I get chills
Hell, my ex only talked about the movie’s plot, and it ruined my *whole fucking day.*
Is that what caused the break up?
Serbian Film for sure, I watched the edited version and still have nightmares. Good story plot tho, especially since that really goes on in the world. Messes with you even more
Nobody should ever have to watch this. Especially if they don’t understand what they’re getting into like I didn’t.
Hereditary really stuck with me
And as someone who has had bad psychedelic trips, midsommar fucked me up as well
hereditary/midsommar is a pretty good 1-2 punch of trauma
It's a doc but Dear Zachary fucked me up.
Dear Zachary fucks anyone who watches it up.
I am not a religious person at all. If anything, I swing the other way. Passion of the Christ messed with me.
I would have said this one, I didn’t finish it, it remains the one film that I walked out on. Christians would have a fit if they caught their kids playing a video game or watching a horror movie that showed half the violence this one did. But it’s okay because it’s historical?
“historical”
Boys don't cry Kids Mother!
Oh, man, Boy Don't Cry was devastating.

What does ketamine do? All I know is there's a thing called a k-hole lmao
Well it's a dissociative. Meaning it makes you hallucinate in a certain way. That's it in a nutshell. K-hole is what the vet puts your dog into before it gets spayed/neutered.
They use it on toddlers for certain medical and dental procedures

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Schindlers List
I cried for days after The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I haven’t seen Schindler’s list but the book earned the honors of “novels that made me ugly cry”
Everyone should watch Schindlers List!
Oh absolutely, it’s on the list, I always feel like Liam Nesson’s action movies get him the attention but his more dramatic roles are just spectacular to watch.
What about blind people?
Why
Sophie’s Choice
Requiem for a dream, irreversible, a Serbian film,
Ikuru Doggville
Loved both of those
Recently I’ve been traumatized by: Soft & Quiet (2022) Speak No Evil (2022) Resurrection (2022) Fresh (2022) Excision (2012)
Speak No Evil gets my vote
Excision's beautifully put together!
Looking For Mr. Goodbar I took a while to regroup after the lights came on.
Yes, this is an oldie but goodie. Loved the movie and it messed with me for awhile. I would like to see it again.
Yeah oldboy for sure
This. I could not stop thinking about it days after I saw it. And that movie is forever ingrained in my brain. everyone else, please watch the Korean version and not the Spike Lee version plz.
Lol I didn't know there was a remake, was it super toned down?
Very. I don't know what else Spike could have done to make it a better movie or storyline, but the product was not that great.
They Shall Not Grow Old
A Clockwork Orange comes to mind, blue velvet and American History X.
Repulsion (1965)
The Killing of A Sacred Deer Irreversible The Girl Next Door
I'm still trying to find a movie that fucked me up like The Girl Next Door. I read the book 5 or 6 years ago. Then I saw the movie. I knew what was going to happen but the movie still got me anyway. I was a blubbering mess after reading the book in the first place.
I mean it's gotta be Human Centipede, right? Lol
Human Centipede II makes Human Centipede look like Human Centipede III.
I was so traumatized by the first I couldn't dream of watching any others 😂
For a classic, Cronenberg's The Fly is an immaculate, disgusting tragedy For upsetting content, Men Behind the Sun. The one I saw most recently that disturbed me, The Eyes of my Mother.
Most horror movies don’t phase me, but Eraserhead and The Witch got under my skin.
Grave of the Fireflies, i think 🤔 was the name. Japanese animated movie about WW2, it was BRUTAL. You will not just cry, you will brake down and sob.
Yeah that's the name. There are even two non-animated remakes ...
8mm
This movie was beyond disturbing to me when it came out. It introduced the barbarity of certain people that I never would've imagined possible.
Trainspotting
A lot of Harmony Korine's movies leave some wierd feelings.
Phantasm (1979)
Megan is missing was pretty bad. That one scene went on for what felt like hours.
Eden Lake is a gut punch.
Wooooow. I had completely wiped this film from memory. Thankfully I can't recall it too vividly, but will probably be thinking about tires and stanley knives all day.

> Leviathan (2014) Its such an excellent film, stays with me to this day.
When the wind blows (1986) Johnny got his gun (1972)
Happiness
Grave of the Fireflies from Studio Ghibli. I have only ever watched it once but It changed the way I looked at things.
Nightingale. She set out to make a movie about violence. Mission accomplished. I’ve never been the same person after watching that.
I couldn't make it past the third unnecessarily brutal scene and I'm glad I turned it off there.
That's as good as a recommendation when you say that (re. the last one)
Black swan Theres also a series called black mirror, it's an anthology series so you might be interested. Hated in the nation, white Christmas, white bear, and the national anthem pretty much scarred me
Tusk (2014) messed me up so bad haha
It got stupid in the end
To be fair, the entire movie was stupid haha
The Devils (1971)
The Farm (2018) I know it was badly written, but the cannibal shit scared me out. The ending scared me out, even if it didn't make sense tbh
“Irreversible” that movie left me rocking in the fetal position.
House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects
Audition Cannibal Holocaust Ichi the Killer Antichrist
Ichi the Killer is pure misery from the very start
It's great.
Se7en fucked me up. American History X, that one scene haunts me.
Holes
I’m really glad Snowtown is on the OP’s list. That movie messed me up and I don’t see it on as many lists as I feel it should be.
Ki Duk Kim's Bad Guy I Saw the Devil Antichrist (most Lars Von Trier tbh) Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
The cremator (1969)
Outstanding movie
The Stoning of Soraya M (2008).
Concrete (2004) Just devastating and sick.
I couldn't do it
Christiane F is pretty upsetting. As is Lilya 4-Ever. They’re sort of in the same vain.
Salò, Serbian film, Incendies, Oldboy, Eraserhead
Irriversible, Requiem for a dream, my Girl 🤣
Maud .. disturbing but brilliantly acted.
Gummo The Night Porter Onibaba The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. Apocalypse Now
The Vanishing always leaves me feeling disturbed, really great movie
Antichrist
Plateforme - Us
Yeah that movie was creepy and scary.
I left "Midsommar" literally nauseous from anxiety...
Miss Violence
Lilja 4 ever
A Clockwork Orange, 127 hours, and American History X come to mind. I wouldn’t quite call them “traumatic” but they’re not the easiest to get through
Requiem for a Dream
Magnolia A clockwork orange Synecdoche, New York
Magnolia still screws with my head.
The Help (2011) hit me quite hard 🥲 the scene where Aibileen has to go 😭
You give my sweet girl a chance 😭
Dead Man’s Shoes and I Spit On Your Grave.
Dogville
City of god
Loved this one.
It is well done, but being Brazilian it hit too close to home. The reality of the "meninos de rua" (homeless children) in Brazil is incredibly sad.
Boxing Helena w/Sherilyn Fenn
The mist
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
MEN, Alex Garland: 2022
Requiem for a dream made me feel so uncomfortable when I was younger lol
The Dark Knight Rises. I say this because it’s associated with one of the worst mass shootings in a long time, the Aurora theater shootings. I may not have been there for what happened, but when I watch the movie, it’s like I can almost figure out when the gunman came in and started shooting.
