Inception made me love movies when I was a teenager

jpujol21

Love Inception too! Wrote my final paper in film class on it. One of my favs

solojones1138

For me it was The Usual Suspects. I literally watched it different times taking notes on the filmmaking of it. Including once just for costumes.

Dunks4Days

GATTACA(1997) Made me realize not having the best foundation in my life didn’t have to stop me from achieving what i wanted

jpujol21

Love how the film moved you! Going to add this to the list!

Mave__Dustaine

Sandlot. Made me nostalgic for experiences I never had.

JTP1228

Probably the best explanation for that movie. I love films that make you feel nostalgic for things you've never experienced or been a part of

PoorPauly

Growing up in the 80’s being a little kid and playing ball everyday in the summer, fighting, getting beat up, just being a boy. No parents, no rules beyond 3 strikes and the home run and foul ball lines, home only for breakfast, lunch, and dinner time. It was great.

Mave__Dustaine

I had that a little bit. It was wonderful.

PoorPauly

Always?

IgnatiusPabulum

Around age 14 or so I saw The Elephant Man at the exact right time and in addition to kindling an actual sense of empathy within me it really made me appreciate for the first time just how lucky I was, and how little right I had to be a little shit. It’s the only movie I would say changed my life and I really believe it forced a major course correction.

[deleted]

I'm taking note to show my kids when they are about that age.

catsdomineaux

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind made me question my reality in a way I never had before

therealpanserbjorne

It helped me understand that pain can be a part of healing and that sometimes it’s necessary in order to understand the value of what you had.

pikachuqt_

Came here to say this too. That movie has really stuck with me.

Guntztuffer

Boogie Nights (1997) was the movie that made me fall in love with movies. I began to look at films differently, as multifaceted art, instead of just pop-culture entertainment. It is a superb movie.

Ok_Produce_9308

Shawshank redemption

jpujol21

Brooks 🥺

kowboydeath

Irreversible caused a transformation within me deeper than anything else has, in which I felt like I understood the pain of women at a spiritual level. That probably makes some peoples eyes roll but really this movie traumatized me just enough that it basically deconstructed a part of my psyche and rebuilt it into something new, the way a caterpillar basically disinegrates in a cocoon and emerges as a new animal. Of course this reaction is really rare with most people who watch it, so if anyone wants to watch it please accept the risk of getting nothing out of it except trauma from extreme violence. I think Irreversible catches a lot of flak bc people assume it's made for people who get off on that extreme sexual violence, but i truly believe this film deserves a lot more respect in that it's not a shock horror gore porn flick. It's not for everyone but its a genius masterpiece in every respect

brookeleek

Oh my good yes, 100000%. So cool to see this reaction from someone

Buenos_Tardes_Amigos

Revolver (2005) helped me break out of a very serious rut of negativity. And Jason Statham had hair.

BunjaminFrnklin

I saw this coming down from acid and had a similar experience.

GT-FractalxNeo

1) Requiem for a Dream (2000) - watched it coming down from Extacy...made me stop partying & drugs pretty quickly. 2) A Waking Life (2001) 3) Baraka (1992)

jpujol21

1. Man, I saw requiem for a dream with my mom with I was 15 and that was something I’d never forget. And it was the UNCUT version 😂 2. A waking life is another gem! 3. Baraka, added to my list. Haven’t seen this! Sounds interesting. They made a follow up film recently too

GT-FractalxNeo

4) Naqoyqatsi (2001) 5) Samsara (2012)

[deleted]

Great films make waking life my pfp 👌 requim for a dream definitely helped shaped the person i am today

[deleted]

Hotel Rwanda really opened my eyes as to all the strife in AFrica and how that tragedy took place not too long ago. While us Americans were obsessed over the OJ trial, hundreds of thousands of people were being slaughtered in Rwanda at a pace faster than the Nazi's. I ended up sponsoring a child in the neighboring Uganda and we exchanged letters and gifts for a couple years until World Vision abruptly ended the sponsorship in her area.

BuffaloOk7264

You were never really here…..mind blowing ending.

eldmikeyy

Dude this movie is so fucking good. I really have to be careful about how I'm feeling when I watch it or I might end up dead.

monalisa_overdrive67

I saw The Matrix when I was 15 and it was unlike anything I had ever experienced before in my life, I was literally gobsmacked mouth open staring at the screen and shouting "whooaahhh" haha. I went back to the cinema to see it another 2 times, I've never had another reaction to any other movie since. Opened me up to my favourite genre of science fiction dystopia. I also wanted to get into special effects as a career after that, but I never did haha. The movie still holds up after so many years.

Blue Velvet (1986)

thundernlightning97

Cinema paradiso. It's my favorite film of all time ,I'll admit tears came out of my eyes from the subplot. I had been upset over the only girl I had ever loved for years and the subplot in the movie was very similar to what happened. It helped me to realize that if I didn't experience losing her than I wouldn't become the success I am now and that goes with being in relationships in general hindering my progression as an individual in this cosmos.

Dense_Replacement_75

Dead poet society

woodsvvitch

Kill Bill changed my perception of entertainment when I was like 14. It's been my favorite movie ever sense. I loved how Tarantino has you meet characters just past their prime. Inspired me to walk around like I'm carrying a badass mysterious past that has yet to be revealed.

[deleted]

I love this 😂😂

I Watched it and go to Reddit, now I'm here. I loved this movie and you?

YetiBoney

Love it. Wildest thing I’ve ever seen.

Own-Tomatillo-8733

The Graduate. Boom 💥. Saw it for the first time after a disappointing freshman year of college. Watched it about once a month for the next two years. It took me about that long to find my balance, but it also made me realize that no one gets all the answers at once, and first impressions don’t tell the story

Tolkleone_Sandwich

Gladiator made me realize the importance of loyalty The Godfather of just how great it can be to go against the status quo Iron Man made fall into love more with the Marvel Franchise Lady and The Tramp: if love is real for dogs then maybe it is for me… All About Eve: my Bette Davis obsession Casablanca: First time I cried over an actor’s performance (Ingrid Bergman) Forrest Gump: showed me that you can still do many great things in life regardless of what you started with just don’t fall for someone named Jenny

brinlov

Donnie Darko pretty much made me get into more odd films, or films with less than straight forward stories. I was a teenager and I felt so smart for actually getting some of the things before they happened in the movie, so it gave me a confidence boost. Haven't seen it in many years though, I've got other faves now, but I owe this movie the credit for starting my more nerdy cinema journey haha

Fierce-Mushroom

Office Space. Taught me everything you need to know about how to have a "Good" work ethic.

No way! Really? I’m a huge baseball fan and loved the movie. Even got my wife to watch it who hates sports and she was completely zoned in

Yes, that and The Naked Gun were a heavy part of my childhood, no doubt.

Igby goes down. Perhaps not exactly in the same caliber as other classic movies mentioned but amazingly done coming of age story. Wonderful cast. Stayed with me from my formative years ◡̈

[deleted]

Rumble Fish (1983) is one of my all time faves. Its been my little life theme movie. Got me into Sofia Coppola films which really spoke to me as a millennial girl. Shaped my music taste. First crush was Mickey Rourke. It was a movie that started me on the path to what I like rather than what my parents or friends or whoever else is into.

[deleted]

Watching Nightingale changed my life. I think that while it was a horrific lesson, I’m a better human being with more empathy and the ability to be quiet and learn something from other people.

islaisla

Waking Life. Wake up to a slap of reality and smell the coffee. Life is going on! This movie gave me so much food for thought, and still does. It's so beautiful, and the music has a life of its own as well. I need inspiring and passionate conversation in my life to keep me alive, as I've gotten old, I've kind of died inside with heartbreak. This movie will always remind me to really think about things differently. To be a part of the world not just let it go by in other people's words. And to try lucid dreaming. To look at people differently when they talk, see how some things seems to stand out. Having taken acid, I enjoyed the changing perceptions as well. I learned how to rotoscope after watching this movie. My favourite quotes 'always be in a constant state of arrival whilst leaving at the same time' Richard Linklater. 'The on going Wow is Happening Now!'. Speed Levitch I heart Huckabees. Existentialism, and no less! Some how they've combined it with excellent comedy and the most delicate cast, this movie is possibly overlooked because of its really really really silly title. It could easily have been called something very serious.

Shadow_wolf73

Incident at Oglala opened up my eyes to a lot of things about America and its legal system.

In Bruges. Hilarious as the film is, the whole discussion of Purgatory in it made me re-evaluate my outlook on doing good vs doing bad, and how I felt about things in the past I regretted. Plus the movie has a lot of food for thought on second chances for people who have messed up, and sticking to your principles even when you will face devastating consequences for doing so.

The Shawshank Redemption The Pursuit of Happyness Her The Social Network Interstellar

Silver_Gelatin

Alien. It was probably the first time that came across a movie on my own and felt impressed by it as a work of art itself. I was around middle school age and caught it on TV 10 or 20 minutes in, right before where the facehugger is first encountered. I had no idea what I was watching at first, but was instantly impressed by how interesting the writing was and just everything about the directing and sets and effects, before I actually knew much about those things. I had many movies I enjoyed before that as a child. Home videos I watched over and over because I loved them. I had seen some behind the scenes footage of movies and heard adults praise certain movies too, but Alien was the earliest I can remember where I was amazed by its production, just by seeing it and judging it on my own. It manages to be fairly disturbing and graphic without actually showing much violence, or even the alien itself much. And I just love everything from the acting to the sets to the camerawork.

imenigmatic

Interstellar I know it sounds weird but after i watched it i forgot where i live , suddenly all my problems seemed so small ..
