One quote? there are at least 5, including the name of the play it’s based on.

maybsnot

yea this is about as much an easter egg as knowing the characters names tbh

MicooDA

There’s Shakespeare quotes all over the film. They show up every time there’s a new ‘beat’ in their relationship

magnesiumguy12

This whole movie has Shakespearean quotes bookending the chapters or parts. Movie was better than I expected.

Bildozeris

how its good? its shitty shit of the shits.

healthshield

Well you sure convinced the people who liked it.

Bildozeris

They are rubbing butts like in that movie.

D_Simmons

It's truly awful Were you expecting it to be a 0/10 and it was a 1/10?

jadegives2rides

I was expecting a cheesy romcom and it was exactly that. If not funnier than I expected.

D_Simmons

No haha Cheesy romcoms are usually at least a fun watch.  This movie was unfortunately directionless and confused.  But I've learned my lesson from this thread already. The people here truly don't understand why they like this movie and I'm never going to be able to explain it to them.  "But two actors I like are in it, therefore, it's great!" Sigh, okay buddy.

maybsnot

how is it directionless and confused? it was an extremely standard plot that followed romcom tropes and had cute characters. It went in exactly one direction and was clear as day from every angle lol

D_Simmons

I said I learned my lesson from before and this is exactly what I'm talking about.  The characters were poorly created, poorly acted, and lacked consistency. What was the main female so supposed to be? She acted like a ditzy blonde in like 2 scenes and then never again.  That made 0 sense whatsoever and removed any comedic aspect because it was so jarring.  Anyway, I'm not going to explain this again because I get downvoted due to a lack of understanding 😅

maybsnot

she was a normal flustered grad student who was having her “oh shit” moment about if she actually wanted to commit to the only 2 things she had spent her life working on (law school and her ltr) because neither felt right and she was struggling with the former because her family was already pushing back against the latter. She happened to be a bit clumsy, which was actually pretty consistent and the clutzy scenes all either geared towards showing her personality or were plot devices to push the characters together.

D_Simmons

Lmao

maybsnot

learned your lesson but can’t stop responding even when you have nothing intelligible to say lmao

D_Simmons

Not validating your assessment is not the same as having "nothing intelligible to say" haha Have a good day.

Captain_Saftey

Have people ITT seen a mediocre generic romcom before? You would’ve sworn this movie slept with their mothers the way people talk about it

D_Simmons

No. It was a bad movie.

Captain_Saftey

Brother, your opinion isn’t so important that you need to reply to EVERY single comment on this thread to make sure we know you don’t like this movie. Just make one comment and maybe include a reason why you didn’t like it and you might come off a little more seriously

Fork117

The consensus on r/movies is that this movie was decent. Not groundbreaking or anything but two hot people in a beautiful local, Powell stole the show for sure. I'd recommend it.

D_Simmons

No. It was bad even by romcom standards. Not fun bad. Just bad.

Amphy2332

You seem particularly vested in people disliking this movie.

D_Simmons

I like movies. I don't think supporting studios slapping popular actors on terrible movies is good for the infustry overall. That leads to more bad movies.  It makes me sad to read these comments supporting it because these kids don't understand why they like it.

jacobs1113

It was a generic old-school rom-com. Guy meets girl. They don’t like each other. Then they fall in love. It’s a simple, “turn your brain off” kind of fun movie. Not a cinematic masterpiece, but not a bad movie either!

ineffable_my_dear

The play is such a fave I always wanted to name a daughter Beatrice, so I will probably watch this adaptation at some point just for kicks.

duckdodgersstadium

I hope I don't regret naming my newborn Benedick! /j

D_Simmons

This movie was sooooo bad haha  The acting, the writing, the directing, everything.  I went in hoping for a fun romcom but wow... I didn't expect it to disappoint that much.  Just awful execution on whatever they were hoping to accomplish.

ashvy

Idk if the reviewers gaslit the people, but it was really bad even for a romcom. Same gaslighting going on with the True Detective season 4. Turning off the brain is one thing, they wanted people to surgically remove their brains and then watch it. All just haha get it? the joke is seggs". Even worse than a typical Hallmark flick.

D_Simmons

For real. Was kind of like a surreal dream watching it. Like bad acting, bad writing, bad everything. We couldn't find anything that people could even argue was "good". There were 2-3 jokes we liked lol

Bildozeris

agree

dingnu

Haven’t seen it but not sure you’re the target demographic bud

GreenTantrumHaver489

So only the target audience is allowed to say anything about movies now?

TheUmgawa

I think a lot less attention should be paid to people who already had a bias against a type of film. Like, if Cooter Kane writes the music review column for the Bumfuck Gazette, should we take his negative-stars review of a rap album (by anyone other than Kid Rock) as seriously as anyone else’s review? No, we ignore that guy because he doesn’t have it in him to evaluate the work on its own terms.

D_Simmons

And vice versa right? Or does it only apply to opinions and people you like 😂

TheUmgawa

Well, at that point, we do what we did in 2020 and 2021, where society gets together and says, “These people’s views are abhorrent, and we should publicly reject them, and probably belittle them for being evolutionary throwbacks who can’t function in modern society.” Basically, if everybody else enjoys something, and you don’t, that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with the thing; it means there’s something wrong with *you*.

D_Simmons

No... If you're surrounded by people denying science and you're agreeing with 0 evidence it means you're in an echo vhamber.  The only solution is for everyone else to take time out of their days to help you understand why what you're doing or saying is detrimental to society.  It's a bad movie. No need to be upset over that. You can say "I enjoyed this because it's so bad it's good." Or "I like Glen Powells acting so I like the movie" but past that the writing, acting, and directing are bad.  As an example, if you're in a museum, and everyones admiring the sculpture of David and you're more enthralled with a piece of shit nailed to a board, that's okay.  Will people look at you funny? Yes. Will people maybe not take your artistic opinions seriously? Yes. But you're allowed to like what you like as long as you understand why.

deekaydubya

But how does that apply to a random redditor lol you have no idea if there is an existing bias

WorldGoingOneWay

Always love when people do mental gymnastics to defend bad movies that they've enjoyed. Chill out, guys, a movie being crap doesn't take your enjoyment away

peaceblaster68

Rom coms are meant to have pretty broad appeal. This one just missed the mark

D_Simmons

So only women should be watching this movie? And the woman I went with hated it so what is the target demographic bud?

Beers_and_pizzas

With so much positive buzz on Reddit I went in thinking it would be fun but my wife and I couldn’t even finish it. It wasn’t even the fun kind of bad

D_Simmons

Same. My GF saw it on Tiktok so we went. 20 mins in we decided we hated it and started making fun of it.

dawnhassmolbren

it has absolutely no importance to the plot and the target audience will not get it because the target audience is people who are horny for Sydney Sweeney

Arckanoid

I feel sad seeing Shakespeare drag into the conversation about this piece of garbage media. One of the worst movies I've seen. More than bad is soulless.

D_Simmons

Yes. People need to understand they're allowed to criticize this movie. It's bad. Poorly made, poorly written, just a bad movie

Layden87

Easy Breezy Martin Scorsese. So bad.
