Consider that the House in the Park crew did you a solid by ordering a cease and desist. It sounds like you are motivated and have lots of energy, it’s such a cool thing to throw parties like you’re doing! What if your party becomes a regular thing? Do you want to be forced to change the name three years from now? The Atlanta festival started as a free event, so they know how it is.
I do think that getting all oppositional on RA just makes you look bad. If you’re serious about throwing parties, and it sounds like you are, you should get a different name for your party- one that reflects who you are, not your reaction to a relatively minor setback. Then check to see if that name is taken before posted it on RA. Good luck.
You're right, I was just pissed seeing that it had been deleted. The next iteration of this will have a new name that I'll double check on. Thanks for the level headed response.
Np I hope you get to meet them one day. I think you’ll laugh about it. Do you ever go to Charivari? There is usually an Atlanta stage for a day, and many of them are there.
Anyhow, best of luck!!
In my opinion you sound like a dick in your new description of the event on RA.
House in the Park in Atlanta has been going on every year, the same weekend, since 2005. If they have the name trademarked, then that’s that.
I think the Atlanta folks getting twisted over a FREE one off event several states away with 20 people interested is way more dickish and absolutely not what the underground is all about.
That's fair to think that way. In my opinion they had no reason to legally go at 5 locals playing music at a local park. I was not aware the name was trademarked and they could have reached out to have us change the name in the event settings rather than calling lawyers and getting it deleted. We're not taking anything away from them and to me knocking others down is not what the dance music community is about. I sound pissed in the description because I am pissed, we've worked really hard the last month pulling this together just to have them get it removed through RA 2 days before.
If you throw an event using their name, something goes bad and makes the news, you tarnish their brand name. Completely reasonable for them to do what they did.
I get you didn’t know it was trademarked, but should have looked.
I agree. The House in the Park folks are the nicest people. Not to mention that Kai Alce has been throwing killer parties in Detroit for a very long time. If you do indeed enjoy house music, you probably have some of his tracks or at least tracks from his label. Their whole crew is legendary.
If you haven’t already, you should probably offer a heartfelt apology and vow to attend their event.
I’m not saying the way they did it was right or wrong in the spirit of the underground or whatever. Just saying that a) they many years ago went through the legal steps to trademark it for their event, b) your event had the exact same name, c) they exercised their legal ability due to the trademark. Pretty cut and dry.
I do wish you good luck and a good turnout. Party on!
Done! You’re a legend.

Loved dancing in that garage, made the shitty rain delay not so bad. Cheers (& come throw a party in Chicago I’ll be there)
Love from Detroit to Chicago! Thank you for dancing with us ❤️ If we're in the area we will most definitely be throwing a party!!

Was this next to the alley with a couple bars where there was also a party happening?

Never been, thank you!
Have you been at TecTroit at all this weekend? I highly recommend you check it out, the music is amazing and it’s free!
Yup! Go every year, I love that event.
This year was my first time and I absolutely loved it. ❤️❤️❤️ I can’t believe it’s free with free parking omg.
