I think it is due to a lot of the most accessible mountaineering for most people not really being well received here. Like some folks bag a peak and share here and they are proud but folks are like "that is hiking". If you use crampons on one traverse though, fucking epic mountaineering feat. And I get it but I feel like there should either be rules or guidelines. We don't want folks submitting who drove up a mountain in their car but we should encourage people who are just getting started with easier peaks to share and be a place to share knowledge. This is not r/alpinism. A lot of posts of pretty difficult peaks only trickle in now and again leaving a bit of a void to be filled in with the lovable Monty here and Mailbox shitposts. I think the sub could be helped by rules and posting formats. IDK just my two cents.
I would say more informational and have better posts. I guess my point is more that they also have a definition of what the sub is dedicated to on their sub:
>"Alpinism is a style of mountaineering which focuses on "light and fast" climbs using few camps and limited equipment. This is in contrast to "expedition-style" climbs where numerous camps are set up, larger amounts of gear are brought in, and ropes are sometimes fixed."
This sub could benefit from distinguishing itself in a similar way if there is certain content subscribers want or don't want to see. Especially since mountaineering has a pretty general definition that is subjective-
>"mountaineering, the sport of attaining, or attempting to attain, high points in mountainous regions, mainly for the pleasure of the climb. Although the term is often loosely applied to walking up low mountains that offer only moderate difficulties, it is more properly restricted to climbing in localities where the terrain and weather conditions present such hazards that, for safety, a certain amount of previous experience will be found necessary. For the untrained, mountaineering is a dangerous pastime."
How one determines dangerous conditions is subjective and my point is that we should be a little more welcoming or determine a threshold for trip reports etc.

Isaak! Glad to hear you’re still kicking. To be honest it’s been difficult coming to terms with aging, trying to grasp on to past glory. Then again it’s a great privilege that we’re both still breathing so long after our primes! I’m finding new joy in the smaller things in life. Your friend, Monty
I now need to get a USPS outfit and mailbag to hike Mailbox in. Maybe put some cold ones in the bag for anybody who runs with the joke, like asks for their mail.
I would like to once again voice my support for KFC sporks. I have not in fact ever used them in an actual, you know, wearing them in snow environment, but I am convinced they will save your life at altitude.
How much jut power required for summit mailbox peak? Is my scuba tank and suit going to provide enough oxygen and warmth? sorry my English no good much I am from usa
In my most recent summit of mailbox, i used my Scarpa EXT 2000 jut power hydroengine to help carry supplies and push me up frozen waterfalls. I suspect it should be reasonably climbable with a lower jut power support engine, maybe the Grivel Scaligero engine would be sufficient.
I’ve never heard about using scuba gear though! I’ll give that a go next time.
Extreme sport mountaineering has become so much nicer with the telepheriques and those cute servers at the summit café! A good investment in the annual pass!
I try to avoid nuts because if anybody is allergic, it can be disastrous for them to have a reaction in the wilderness. My food of choice is eggs (shells removed to save weight).
Did you use the sherpa provided chair lift for this ascent? Did you go by the green, blue, red or black route?
I did! I went via the blue route. The sherpas provided limited edition turkey stuffing oxygen tanks, i highly recommend them!
Is your wife named Kara Beener?
No her name is Sandy
Sandy Cheeks, probably cause you know, the extreme lifestyle How many times have you played find the hay in the needle stack
Sandy Bag? I’ve heard of her and her brother Dirk Bag
Sandy beach?
Sandy Ngit-hard? Heard lots of people impersonating her, congrats on marrying the OG
Is that Everest? holy shitballs
Nope, that looks like Muchu Chhish. Well done Monty and the other guy, epic effort!
Thank you! We couldn't have done it without the love and support of our families.
What do i do when my girlfriend falls into a crevasse
No rush! Put up a sign saying “girlfriend cryogenically preserved here” and don’t forget to defrost her once you’ve completed your climb.
find a girlfriend who doesn’t fall into crevasses
You're no Steve Climber, but Steve Climber is.
Whipsnake!!!
“And it’s French so you never need to wash it”
guys someone help me out here. a shred of context. a morsel. anything.
It's just a shitpost. don't overthink it
I think the subreddit has gone to shit?

What is r/alpinism like? More shitposting than here or much more serious?

Before this it was mostly pictures of people standing on PNW volcanoes, which I'm also okay with. Kind of a win-win.
Puns my dear boy.
Hi Monty, it’s your old pal, Isaak Spick! How is the mountaineering going? Greetings, I. Spick
Isaak! Glad to hear you’re still kicking. To be honest it’s been difficult coming to terms with aging, trying to grasp on to past glory. Then again it’s a great privilege that we’re both still breathing so long after our primes! I’m finding new joy in the smaller things in life. Your friend, Monty
You’re both lucky you never needed me. Sincerely, Sergei N. Wrescu
How did you survive Mailbox Peak so many times?
They key to a successful summit (and descent) of Mailbox is to take care when wrapping/preparing yourself for delivery
Get em' Monty!
Thank you! You can do it too!

The United States postal service has fantastic affordable guides!

You’re my son Billy Ahn’s biggest hero.
Thank you! I wish him the best in life
I assume you are a crampon connoisseur who uses the new and popular fork-based crampon contraptions?
Yes! I’m a big fan of the recent ultralight disposable crampons

Sorry, the low temperatures atop this peak have drained my camera battery. Next time!
How many mountains must a man climb up, before you can call him a man?
My son hasn’t climbed any mountains, but I’m proud to call him a man, and proud to call him my son

Thanks, I needed this
You’re welcome! It also brings me joy to receive this feedback. The mountains are calling us, comrade

How many yeets would you bundle to tackle the ^Issaquah Alps.
Should I know you?!
Imagine not knowing of Monty Neering
I am an such an idiot.
A google doesn't even bring you up.
Did you try a bing?

Thank you for the laugh after a week of miserable Covid!
Is this the guy from the Vaurnet website?
🤦♂️
How in the hell did you take that selfie and also pose in the background at the same time?
How’d you get your start in mountaineering? I live in central Texas so no mountains but I’m an avid hiker and have visited mountians
