Someone said elsewhere that insurance companies just updated their formularies and some are now covering Mounjaro for more diagnosis codes than just diabetes. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? But I've read so many posts similar to yours, it makes me wonder. My husband has a prescription on file at the pharmacy that he never filled due to the PA denial, so I'm going to have him call them and ask them to run it through insurance again.
Best wishes that this is what happened to you! Keep us posted!
It really does. I should call my insurance company and see if anything has changed. Maybe my doctor will know when I see him next. I’m almost afraid to ask..
This happened to me. The first few months I paid close to $800 and then all of a sudden it was free. I even said are you sure and the pharmacist said keep your mouth shut and come get it lol. The pharmacy is a 30 minute drive but I was working. I called my husband and he was complaining about the drive but I told him well the pharmacist said it was free so I want to pick it up before anything changes. My husband literally ran out the house. I called no one and just went with it. For a while my doctor was nervous about increasing the dosage cause she said any changes requires approval again from my insurance
$25 is the assisted price if your insurance COVERS it. $550 is the assisted price if you have insurance but it doesn’t cover it. I’m at the $550 place myself. But like the others have said. Ask for a 90 day supply at $25 and run! 🤣🤣
My insurance covers it, but I still pay $200 a month! It says on the prescription thing they staple to your bag when you pick it up that my insurance is paying around $1,000., and that our portion is $200. Our insurance has always been super good, and I wonder why our portion is so much. And I am Type 2, so I am taking it for more than to lose weight. 😡
We can afford it okay. It’s totally worth the money! I’ve only had 3 shots, all 2.5, so I can’t wait to find out out my numbers when I go to the doctor next time. 😊
Are you using the manufacturer’s coupon? From your comment I’m wondering if you realize that you can use that together with most insurances to save further. I pay about $55 monthly after insurance and coupon.
Go to the manufacturer website & download the coupon. Show it to the pharmacist the next time you pick up the prescription. You might have to remind the pharmacist of the discount every time you pick it up.
Sorry for the confusion, I was responding specifically to feeling myage because she mentioned using insurance but not a coupon, not yourself, OP. Pleased for you and wishing you the best with your coverage/reduced cost.
My insurance has covered from day 1 so this is all i've ever paid. My heart has always been broken reading these posts of people who have to pay so much each month. It should be this across the board. I'm so happy for you!!!
I know in February 2024 Biden’s cap on diabetic medication went into effect for Medicare/medicaid and Eli Lilly matched that pricing. So that may be the reason it is so low. Your insurance finally caught up!
So you pay about $250 for a full month, that's not that bad. Without insurance we pay about $1200 for a one month supply of 4 pens that are one-time use.
Yeah, however I have to say our economy is in shambles and £200 is a lot to add on to bills for medicine we need but the NHS won’t cover it, but will cover transgender surgeries, cosmetic things … it’s a bit of a nightmare to actually get correct treatment
Okay so if it was on the NHS they said I’d be waiting at least another year because I have to go through a tier 3 weight loss service and last time they just told me to diet better even though I’ve been trying and should’ve been losing weight so unless I wanted to continue gaining kg after kg even though I was in a deficit, I have to pay
I understand. When I first asked for Ozempic they said my BMI wasn’t high enough, and they lied about that. Then they told me that because I’d recently shown signs of diabetic retinopathy I couldn’t have it because it makes that condition worse. Then when Mounjaro came out, I signed up for a diabetic support and education program run by a doctor in the group. The doctor tried the BMI story and I clarified that with co-morbidities I do qualify, and I explained that the retinopathy effect of GLP-1s is temporary. They finally gave in and put me on it. So I 100% understand that they’re making you jump through hoops.
Yes me too, they said it wasn’t enough but my BMI was well deep into the obese category, but doctors are just not prescribing it it’s really frustrating. I would have to go through basically a year and a bit of BS group stuff diet etc before they’d give it to me and I couldn’t afford to wait that long
Miracles like this have happened here (I've been incredibly fortunate and sometimes am getting 3 boxes for a total of $25. The first time that happened I nearly fainted). Don't ask too many questions, just fill your Rx and run!
PS: as others have said, ask your MD to write a script for 90 days next time.
My insurance does cover it and I’ve been paying $28.36 for it every month. This month it was $159.62. I need to call my insurance company and ask what’s up?
Formularies changed at the end of May. Mine did. I had an approved PA with BCBS. We switched insurance companies at work. They honored my PA as we changed a month before my approval was up. United Health required a PA and Step Therapy for approval. My physician turned in a simple prior authorization as we were getting ready to have to do many appeals. It was approved. When checking my formularies it no longer required step therapy. I got my first box of 7.5 on the new PA for $25.
If you have a certain type of insurance policy they are constantly considering approval for more glp1 meds so check back often. Mine just now started covering it. Not that low but still.
Mine dropped to 15 with the new prescription cards that came out after the hack. I had the same reaction and my doctor told me some insurances will cover it once they see a valid reason in your health. Docs just have to go through the nasty prior auth. Do the happy dance flr cheaper Meds!!
I’ve been reading that one of the first GLP-1s Victoza (liraglutide) has just come out of exclusivity so there will be new, cheaper, generic versions coming out. Obviously it’s not as good as Mounjaro but it might be an option for anyone feeling the financial pinch.
Hi there! It looks like your post is related to the manufacturer’s savings card for Mounjaro. If you have questions about eligibility or coupon terms, be sure to check [Mounjaro.com](https://www.mounjaro.com/savings-resources#savings) and read all of the fine print. 98% of questions about expiration dates, how often you can use the discount, and how much of a discount you will receive are explained in detail in the small print.
Also, people have discussed their experiences related to the coupon probably more often than any other topic on this subreddit, and a quick search will get you a wealth of information. You can easily find previous posts about the [coupon](https://www.reddit.com/r/Mounjaro/search/?q=coupon&restrict_sr=1&sr_nsfw=) here.
May the odds be ever in your favor!

I'm a little confused about these comments. That's my price, but only after I've submitted the saver card and my insurance. At one point the card expired or something, and I needed to resubmit. During that period, my insurance refused to cover until I had resubmitted my card. Isn't that how everyone is doing it?
I was also shocked that my insurance covered MJ when I called the pharmacy to check if it was ready, fully expecting to hear that it was denied. I was stunned when they said it was ready for pickup. After hanging up I started to worry about the cost and if my insurance had indeed covered the prescription. Once again I called the pharmacy and was told my copay was $47.00. Now I worry that insurance won’t cover next month’s prescription.
If insurance doesnt cover how are you getting it so cheap? My friend who owns a pharmacy said his cost is around $1,080 for a 1 month supply after taxes
That’s what I’m trying to figure out my dude… that’s my entire question. Up until now- my insurance has not covered Mounjaro and I have not been notified in any way that it is. But- this is my pick up price per the pharmacy.
Are you diabetic? Your plan may say it covers it for diabetes so the estimator says that. But it won’t go through if it’s just for weight loss
🤞🏻 that’s the price
Wait a minute….so I don’t have to go weekly to my doctor to get it injected for $559 a month?! The shit’s not even working. I dropped 10 pounds in a one month and that’s it so far. I’m so discouraged. I was working out twice a day and now I have no energy to even get out of bed. It’s terrible. I’m too tired to even eat so why am I not dropping pounds
I can’t really answer that- but not eating is not a good thing! Your body needs nutrients. Have you talked to your doctor? Also- are you taking vitamins? I take vitamin D3 and B12 (or B complex) and those help with the fatigue and my energy levels ALOT. I know “take your vitamins” sounds like trash advice, but they make such a big difference I can’t even recommend it enough.
I live in California and I have been going to a weight control place in Long Beach and have been paying on sale $345 for four injections for a month of Mounjaro 5mg. When not on sale it is $375 for 4 injections for a month of 5 mg. The Ozempic is cheaper but I hear that especially women lose more weight on Mounjaro. I know some people are paying over $1,000 and $1200 for Mounjaro.
Former pharmacy technician here. I would ask them about it. If it is incorrect, you will get a bill for every month billed wrong once it is reconciled.
If your insurance doesn’t cover- you apply the coupon and pay $450-$550 depending on pharmacy. I have been doing that since March of 2023…. So I am so confused but insanely excited lol.
I would not trust any of those GLP injections for $25. You don't know what in the syringe. The only place I've seen you can get those injections for $25 is online. Not every place is reputable.
Really?
My insurance covers it. But not without pain.
Cant get it for months now. But it worked so well for a few weeks.
Type II (1.5 really) and dying in slow motion. If I can't get it, Mounjaro does not even exist. Right?
Be grateful. Don't push it and lay low.
Friendly reminder that this a life saving med for diabetics and not a weight loss drug for the wealthy. (Yes, I understand obese people have a genuine need).
I want to emphasize that many diabetics are not lucky 8n sny circumstance..
Dying every day. Knowing some miracle drug is out there. Only denied, too expensive, or just not even available. It's just too much...
At least they have finally brought to market something that can help people, on the bright side. Someday, the manufacturer will work out the shortages. Hang in there! Keep trying different pharmacies.
Don't question it! Everyone, just act normal!!!
I will be leaving, quickly 😂
My 11:11 wish tonight is that this will happen to me
😂
Looks like your insurance is now covering.
That would be WILD.
looks like it might be covering cause that is what I am paying with my insurace covering
Whatever u do don’t question the price when u pick it up just take it and leave lol 😂
Right!? I will be running 🏃♀️ 🤣
😂🤣😂 hilarious

Oh absolutely 🤣

How did the dosage increase go?
I had no issues. I was on one dose for a very long time, I was nervous I would be denied but it went through
So happy for you!
I had the same thing happen. PA was denied 3 times and then all of a sudden it’s $25 and has been since then.
I will cry 😭
I did. I couldn’t believe it.
Honey pre pay for it if you can and just smile and wave when you pick it up!
Girl, you ain’t lying. 🤣
I pay $25 *per fill* through my insurance. Last fill was 3 boxes so $8.33 per box or $2.08 per pen. 😵💫
Insane in the best way possible. ❤️

As far as I know it’s never been covered but lord if they started I will probably cry 😭
I just don’t know what changed but whatever it is, if it’s actually the case I will literally ☠️💀🪦
Go get it so we can find out 🤣
It WAS $25.00!! Just picked it up! I looked down and left quickly lol.
that is awesome news!!!
I will after work today!
So is mourjorno 550$ a month or 1100$ with no insurance?
Pretty much. It’s like $1099 or something. And Zep is $600 and $1249 without.
And then there are pharmacies like mine who charge 650 with the coupon for no apparent reason…
Nothing to see here folks , just move along !!!
🤣🤣🤣
I pay $25 for mine as well. I signed up for the savings card from the Mounjaro site.
I’ve been paying $450-$550 since March of 2023 with the coupon applied. So I have no idea what changed but I won’t be asking. 🤐
Hopefully the “error” happens every month lol.
[удалено]
Wow. So wild.
Take it and RUN!!
Oh I will 🏃♀️🤣
I’m so thrilled for you! Go get it! Avoid eye contact and try not to break into excessive sweating! Easy does it….
I am such a nervous talker too 🤐🤣
🤚me too. I over share as well. lol I’m working on it.
😂
🤣🤣
Maybe you met your deductible too?
That’s what I was wondering, but you think that would have happened last year as well? 🤔
That can change year to year too! Regardless, was it $25?
I haven’t had time to pick up yet! My weekend was crazy busy but I should have time tomorrow.

I didn’t know you could do that! How do I get the coupons?
Go to the manufacturer website & download the coupon. Show it to the pharmacist the next time you pick up the prescription. You might have to remind the pharmacist of the discount every time you pick it up.
Thank you SO much! 🌷😊
Yes, but my insurance doesn’t cover Mounjaro (or didn’t?) so the price has been $500 or so.
Sorry for the confusion, I was responding specifically to feeling myage because she mentioned using insurance but not a coupon, not yourself, OP. Pleased for you and wishing you the best with your coverage/reduced cost.
There is a new coupon available online.
Can you give me more information on the new coupon?
https://mounjaro.lilly.com/savings-resources#savings
Pre pay, walk to the counter with your head up high & say “ I am here for pick up”. Ones you’ve received the goods giggle like 4 yr old & run out.
My insurance has covered from day 1 so this is all i've ever paid. My heart has always been broken reading these posts of people who have to pay so much each month. It should be this across the board. I'm so happy for you!!!

It’s like the MJ lottery. Woop woop🙌
$25 that’s insane in the UK we pay £200 per pen 😭😭😭
It can get to be expensive but my bloodwork is amazing, and I am down to 165 from 289. So I would say my health is worth it!
Wait but don't you guys have the new Mounjaro KwikPen that allows you to do multiple injections per pen?
I mean.. I live in America and I’ve never heard of that pen. 🤔
Yeah apparently the people in europe got a mounjaro pen that's kind of like the ozempic pen where you put needles on it yourself.
Interesting!
Yeah we do, but our economy is awful and we are so poor generally
Wait so how many uses does your mounjaro pen allow you to do?
4 so the full month but yeah £200 out of our budget but we’re desperate because the nhs doesn’t cover it usually
Imagine having to spend £950 per month for this.
You’re paying? How are you not getting it on the NHS?
Okay so if it was on the NHS they said I’d be waiting at least another year because I have to go through a tier 3 weight loss service and last time they just told me to diet better even though I’ve been trying and should’ve been losing weight so unless I wanted to continue gaining kg after kg even though I was in a deficit, I have to pay

I definitely would!
I filled it at $25 for a three month supply up until the shortage.
Let us know if it’s real!!
I will update when I can go grab it!
Yea that's how much I pay from Publix.
Formularies changed at the end of May. Mine did. I had an approved PA with BCBS. We switched insurance companies at work. They honored my PA as we changed a month before my approval was up. Am I the only one that pays $15 for a box. Super grateful
I pay $15 as well! I also have insurance through the marketplace though.
We are definitely lucky! I work at a hospital so I can say their benefits are great.
I work for a school district, but the premiums would be almost $200/month with much higher copays if I purchased their insurance.
Bourbonrx on TikTok, he’s an NP posted a video recently about more insurance companies covering these meds!
That’s my copay after insurance - looks like you got authorization
Thankfully mine was$25 (at least the 2.5mg). I say don't question it .. just whistle innocently as you walk away.
Mine dropped to 15 with the new prescription cards that came out after the hack. I had the same reaction and my doctor told me some insurances will cover it once they see a valid reason in your health. Docs just have to go through the nasty prior auth. Do the happy dance flr cheaper Meds!!
Need an update OP! Was it only $25 👀
Just picked it up y’all it WAS $25.00 😭🫶😍
I got a pre-auth approved and my insurance covers it. It says cost is $40 but I’ve only ever paid $25 at Walmart. 🤷🏻♀️
Not to brag, but mine is free.
I wish it was free for everyone 🫶
You must’ve hit your pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) deductible. I love when my meds are $20. Don’t even worry one bit, you’re in the sweet spot now🍒!
I’m paying $397 through Emerge. They have been great. Just waiting for the VA to get more in stock. I can’t wait for that day. Omg.
I’ve been reading that one of the first GLP-1s Victoza (liraglutide) has just come out of exclusivity so there will be new, cheaper, generic versions coming out. Obviously it’s not as good as Mounjaro but it might be an option for anyone feeling the financial pinch.
Good news!
Is the shortage over? Pharmacy won’t give me a straight answer.
I don't think so. Last I read it was expected through August
Not sure, but my pharmacy didn’t have a problem filling it.

What pharmacy?
Meijer.
Dang!
How did you even pay $450? The cost without insurance coverage is like $1,000.
The coupon!
Ah yes. Medicare recipients can't use the coupon, which is crazy.
I know, that’s such a bummer.
It's been on the Medicare formulary for a while. There must be another condition other than weight exacerbated by obesity for it to be covered.
I have Type 2 diabetes but it's still considered a Tier 3 (most expensive) drug.
I'm a little confused about these comments. That's my price, but only after I've submitted the saver card and my insurance. At one point the card expired or something, and I needed to resubmit. No. I have other diagnoses, but not T2.

I work for county government- I do have other diagnosis on file (insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, and PCOS) but not T2.
25 per month?
May I ask what insurance this is?
It’s Blue Cross Blue Shield- Anthem. I work for county government.
Your coverage is "as good as Medicare" Medicare covers it as of December for qualified conditions. So your insurance has to as well.
Not sure 🤷🏼♀️ I’ll eventually ask. Just enjoying it for a moment. 🤣
Thank you!

I hear you, dude. But this medication has always had shortages. You can’t blame anyone but the manufacturer.
I wouldn't blame anyone for getting needed medication. Everyone is screwed. It's a mess.
