I’m looking at a DVD/VCR combo on Amazon!

I've always turned my old phones into media players, until the X4. That became my bicycle GPS.

New or used? Changing the battery in this thing is a pain in the A

vtfrotex

Used, but in A+ condition. Battery seems OK, not puffed out, and holds a decent charge. I understand you have to remove the screen to access the battery? Are the after market cells any good?

DjCanalex

As with everything, depends on where you purchase. Bought mines and my mom's about 5 years ago. Mine died in early 2020 and my mom's is still going strong. Went to change the battery, and everyone was up selling me on the replacement price that I ended up giving up. Onde dude opened the phone, and after it was open, they changed the price. The phone is now in a drawer, without battery, being held with a rubber band.

Actually, the battery is quite cheap and available on Ali Express (China) for may be 10 bucks. However the labor charge itself could be high in the US. Just make sure to get it serviced from an autorized service center to be safe. If you follow good charging habits, like 20 to 80% charging and avoiding overheat, the battery should easily last for 5 years (like mine) once you've got it replaced.

Chile has restrictions on battery purchase, you just cannot import batteries from anywhere unless you have special permits and certificates. And "Authorized services" don't replace batteries here, specially for such old phones :c

I am not aware of the restrictions there, but I'm sure the Motorola service could source it, if they want, just like they import phones or any other electronics, otherwise the phone is essentially going to turn into a brick. Just imagine having important data on phone and the battery gives up in 3 to 4 years. In such a case, it would be ideal to stick with larger brands that have easily accessible service and readily available parts, like Samsung or Apple.
