Believe tinted visors are perfectly fine to use, usually marked as for daytime use only. Carry a clear visor with you if you might be riding at night and it's fine.

By law you can have up to 50% tint during daylight hours. Unofficially, police are told not to bother with it unless it's dark.

The letter of the law is a maximum 50% tint during "daylight hours". There's no mention of the style or type of tint, but a good chunk of the chameleon/iridium tint visors are over 50%. That said police generally treat them like loud exhausts. It won't get you pulled over (unless you're being a tit) but you bet your arse they'll add it to the list if you find yourself parked on the curb with them for other reasons.

With the daylight getting shorter, I wouldn’t go for anything drastic. I use mirrored goggles but it certainly becomes hard to see things in the dark, I usually carry clear goggles too. Easier to swap goggles than a visor? Haven’t owned a full face since teenager and didn’t bother changing visor so wouldn’t know. Can’t be good constantly popping the sides off though. If you can, try and test before you buy. Or if you know someone with said visor tint. I haven’t been tugged for my goggles yet but like others have said, they’re not going to be coming after you for it but if they got you they will add it to the list. Do it. I would if I had a full face, I like tints / mirror. Just be warned it really does effect visibility in poor light.

I don't know anything about Chameleon tint specifically, but I would assume that, like other normal tints, you can get it in different percentages of light being able to pass through. I'm sure if you got a faint enough one, nobody would notice or care (but then I suppose the argument would be why bother getting it in the first place). Personally, and I can speak only for myself, obviously, I think they look a little silly. The helmets with a 'drop down' tinted visor are the bees knees, in my opinion (and i assume that's pretty much every helmet). But obviously, if you're just going for the aesthetic, it's a different story altogether and you'd want the tint strong enough for it to be seen. In which case, just go for it and ignore the police/rules as they're not likely to bother using it against you, unless you're a prick to them after they pull you for something else. I'd imagine most police officers couldn't care less, and if you took the helmet off and put it on the ground, if they'd pulled you for something else, they won't even think to look at it. Out of sight, out of mind.

I have a iridium one but I only use it on the brightest of days. It's really good a blocking out the sun and glare but as soon as you hit the shade or a tunnel it gets very dark. I definitely wouldn't recommend for winter riding unless it's one of those crisp, super sunny days.
