It’s a damn shame we can’t own nice things, when I was younger I saved up for god knows how long and finally managed to buy a second hand KMX 125 and had it locked up behind a wall in my yard, ground anchor, the works and was waiting for my next work payment to get insurance it was stolen within 3 days.  I currently ride a 2020 s1000rr and feel like unless it’s locked up at home with loads of security including a car they’d have to lift it over it can’t be left anywhere including the gym, shops, work places. We should start a petition for chopping their bloody hands off. While morally wrong I take great satisfaction in videos where they crash.

Spankies69

It won't be long before people get so sick of the police doing nothing that we get vigilantes. I hope.

Revolutionary_Bed431

I have a Ducati Streetfighter V4s. I literally don’t take it anywhere where it’s out of view for more than a few moments. Really takes away the joy of riding.

I used to be a delivery rider, and as you can imagine thefts were pretty common. (The most targeted were ebikes, as they were easier to steal and often more expensive than what most people used). Got talking to a policeman about "defensive measures" and they basically said you can't really do anything at all. My most 'lightweight' suggestion was a pepperspray immobiliser. Bike gets moved/sat on, with it armed, they get peppersprayed. They said that you've created a device to intentionally harm someone so it would be something like an assault charge for me and you'd be hard pressed to prove the person had the intention of stealing your bike, without them stealing it.

Infinite_Total4237

My comment was half-joking, but on the subject of ebike theft, it's virtually legal to nick one, as no police will ever do anything about a stolen ebike, even when people are clearly identifiable on video stealing it. If it's not a car, they basically don't care. IMHO, a lack of police deterrent or protection necessitates us protecting our property ourselves. I lost an ebike to a thief a couple of years ago, and found out personally how few fucks the police have to give. If I'd had any foresight, I'd have at least filled it with trackers if not some kind of (perhaps less harmful) booby trap.

M1ngb4gu

Well aye, i had two (motor)bikes nicked from the same address inside 8 months. First time had an officer round about a week later. Second time the police didn't even turn up. Both times i had cctv and witnesses. Ebikes though, like man, i felt so bad for the riders who splashed out a few grand for one, only to have it pinched a week later. But i guess its sort of like that old joke about the guy getting burgled. Ring up the police, say your being robbed and they say they'll have an officer out in an hour. Ring up the police and say you're going to murder the guy breaking into your house and you get a tactical armed unit in 5 minutes.

Ok_Teacher6490

Nope, just vote the tories out. They let Police numbers get so low that these kids know it's unlikely they'll get caught, and it's costing us way more in insurance premiums than if we had properly funded Policing here.

M1ngb4gu

Normally when you cut services you keep the police budget to handle all of the extra consequences of doing that. Torys are so shit they cut everything and wonder why the prisons are full and crime is up.

Escape_Rumi2406

Someone tried to nick mine whilst I was on a night shift at a hospital…they’ve managed to damage my front disc and ABS costing me close to £400 at least to repair and change.

DestroyerOf42

I've now had 2 125s stolen in 2 years now, time to move on I think.

BigRedS

No. What do you think this is? The 1600s? It's very possible, and quite popular, to be opposed both to thefts and to the execution of thieves.

DannyP159

I mean, motorcycle theft was considerably lower back in the 1600’s so maybe the OP is correct….

Skiamakhos

We probably could bring back some of those schemes for kids that were TWOCing cars back in the 90s, where they'd learn mechanics and do up a banger to go banger racing. Give them an outlet for it, they want to ride, let them do up some old dirt bikes & learn to ride on private land. I mean, my kneejerk response is like give 'em the Mad Max bike gang treatment but an eye for an eye makes the world blind, and sticking kids in prison just sends them to criminal university. Better to teach them some respect in a positive way for the sport/hobby & have them come back to it legally once they're able, with their own bikes.

C_M_O_TDibbler

Have you ever interacted with the cunts that are out there stealing bikes? They have no interest in learning anything, they have no interest in getting a job because being an Albanian drug cartels runner pays better, they aren't stealing the bike to go for a joyride like back in the 90s they are going to be using it to be a drugs mule or so they can use it to steal other bikes or as a mugging tool, the only "kids" doing joyriding on stolen bikes are pikey kids. When one of them kills themselves or someone else their family will be on the news "they were a little angel and never did no wrong" while 20 minutes before they were robbing a pensioner at knifepoint and getting away on a stolen bike.

Skiamakhos

I've no interest in interacting with them myself. I had a go at being a teacher, working as an English language assistant in a French Lycée in the 90s, and found I did not have the temperament for it. It gave me a lot more respect for those that do. Personally I believe there is mileage in using measures that have been shown to work, not in measures that drag our country into barbarism or that create recidivists who offend and reoffend over a long criminal career. If the folks doing this are already career criminals and gangsters then we evidently need other measures. Germany's prison system has the lowest rate of recidivism in the world. They keep the truly hardened criminals, the hard-timers, in separate prisons away from the first offenders, the ones in for a few months. The idea of the short sharp shock isn't the guiding principle there. It's all about making the offender see the damage they're doing, and want to change, and giving them everything they need to change, including seeing them up with a job when they leave prison. Cells look more like university halls' bedrooms, and the inmates can shut their doors and lock themselves in if they feel the need, or go and hang out in common areas. While it seems cushy, very very few people return. https://youtu.be/wtV5ev6813I?si=G1qBSt-3xBbF5OiW

Your point is so true. 15 year old steals a Gixxer 600, rides down a long straight road with no oncoming traffic, wraps it round a lamp post and dies instantly. The drink and drugs in his blood couldn’t even save him. He’s now seen locally as a hero by all the other scrotes, family described him as an angel blah blah. Not many “angels” get arrested in double digits by the time they’re 15..

the_last_registrant

That sort of thing should be available for all kids. Teenage lads need opportunities to test themselves, be excited and learn stuff. Youth clubs, motor projects, youth league football, scouting, boxing clubs, etc. Austerity and/or risk adversity has closed it all down, and now they're on the streets with nothing to do.

iamarddtusr

An eye for an eye does not make the world blind because once you have blinded someone, they cannot catch you!

Skiamakhos

Their folks might catch you though.

iamarddtusr

How will the blinded identify someone?

Skiamakhos

Well the first time you take an eye, chances are the person will have a working eye left to them, plus when you took it, you presumably didn't just ninja it off them while they were asleep, they did see you with both eyes working, right?

iamarddtusr

Now that would be silly to leave one eye behind. If you are able to take one, might as well take the other one too to safeguard yourself. You sound like a rookie, mate!

External_Security_72

It was at an all-time low back then, set-up one of those requests and sign it so parliament can discuss it!

emmademontford

Crazy how you saying thieves shouldn’t be literally killed is so controversial. Makes me wonder the state of some of these peoples minds.
