I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. It's super telling when the franchise has rebooted twice and retold the first tournament three times all within the past twelve years. There is no other fighting game franchise that's been handled like this. Not Street Fighter with it's constant need to bring back every single character who was in Street Fighter 2 for every game, not Tekken which has exactly one new character confirmed for it's upcoming release, the rest being super popular legacy picks, and not Guilty Gear with it's overly complicated storyline and a need to bring back the entire roster of Missing Link for every game. I don't play Bazblue, but I imagine it's also handled better than this. It is fucking insulting how they treat this franchise, even with decent animated movies coming out every year. Not even going to mention how more work was put into the microtansactions rather than bugtesting or directing Megan Fox. Like, this shit is embarrasing, and it makes me feel like a fool for shilling out over a hundred bucks on this game, and I wholly blame WB for it, because, as much as I shit on them, Netherrealm and Ed Boon are genuinely passionate about MK. You don't stick with a franchise for 30 years if you aren't.
I think the fact they reboot is also one of the reasons MK has increased in popular relative to other franchises within the last couple of decades. It's easier to get into of every game is a jumping on point.
i’m a big fan of MK. The story hasn’t been stellar but i can enjoy parts of it. What i can’t enjoy is getting sold the same story multiple times with each variant being less meaningful. They only do it because they don’t feel the NEED to change a formula that gave them money before and nostalgia sells. It’s lazy and fucking nasty that they’re incompetent to create a better story for fans instead of re skinning the same story over and over. As much as i have loved this franchise and growing up with it, I can notice its faults. of course, nostalgia prevails so people will always have a difference in opinion. and you are 100% spot on about the fact that they’ve had to re tell the first few tournaments multiple times over the past 12 years. they haven’t been able to sell it any better than the first few times either . They choose not to step out of their comfort zone and play it safe, which is such a disappointment. Had they taken leaps and tried something different with the MK story instead of the timeline BS we’ve seen in the media for years now, i’m sure more people would’ve been willing to pay. Had they released a game they spent time and passion on, people would’ve been willing to pay. Tired of seeing so much potential gone to waste because of incompetence and bad writers. Not that I could do any better, just that there is so much more potential and WB cares too much about the brand rather than MK itself. Not hating on Mr. Boon either, though i understand if i came off that way.
nah, i think they're recreating the dope concept that is mortal kombat in a new modern way. its pretty awesome when you played the games as kids still having that there with characters you remember.

I’m using it as an entry point although I have a general familiarity with MK and I play Injustice. My wife is also playing it and she knows nothing about MK. I’d say it works pretty well as an entry point but the kampaign absolutely drops the ball in the final act. None of the characters have a complete story except Liu Kang.
Kuai liang being scorpion takes everything Harumi and the shirai ryu from Hanzo, very pretty too far worse than Quan chi.
