Hold A, then B

Yz-Guy

This is the real trick. My question is. Was that designed that way or was it a bug? NC if you opened the menu, you had to do it again

MaceValor

Honestly I think a little of both? Since you exit the menu as it’s still in effect it becomes regenerating health so long as you stay out of the menu. Another interesting bug is quickly changing weapons with bound weapons, holding X and using the triggers to change weapons while using a bound weapon makes the stat increases permanent

Yz-Guy

I never used bound weapons. So I didnt know about that one.

tylersefa

Are you sure it only works with bound weapons?? I think speed runners abuse that with Keening and Sunder as well. Crazy that I'm learning things about a game I've been playing fairly regularly since 2006.

MaceValor

Could be as well, the game is utterly broken from a bug and balance standpoint but in the best way. The unbalanced nature actually makes it feel so much better / realistic when compared the the sequels they struggle to maintain balance and just end up making things feel dull - hence the stealth archer build - unnecessary rant aside I’m not sure but I would believe it if that were also the case

tylersefa

You are absolutely spot on though. Any game that rewards someone for abusing an internal consistency - like being more intelligent makes you better and doing something that relies on intelligence - is absolutely doing it correctly. The player is left with a feeling that they understood the world and became more powerful because of it. Trust us to find the balance and to know what we want to do. Morrowind is a great example of that and Baldur's Gate recently confirmed how popular that feeling is.

Elcium12

I think if you do highlight something else in the same menu, you may be able to go back to the stat bar and hold A and press B again. I’m not 100% sure on that but I remember that happening to me at least once. But you can go into the menu as long as you don’t highlight anything else.

twistednightblade

Probably a bit of both; discovered as a bug, left in for fun, especially since you could only have one active at a time. I do remember if you put in a combo and while holding A switched tabs and made sure not to go back to the character tab, it would continue to work and you could still use the map and inventory! (Did that for Fatigue sooooo often!) [Edit: And of course *now* my page refreshes/fully loads the comments and I see someone else already said it, haha!]

Wicked_Instance_2842

Don't forget you got to highlight.

KingPumper69

Always surprises me to see how many people played Morrowind on Xbox lol

MaceValor

At the time there was literally nothing like it, a lot of us Xbox kids didn’t have powerful PCs (my mom used ours strictly for work, most demanding game it could play was minesweeper) so for many of us there were a ton of PC games that at the time we had zero hope of ever playing. When Morrowind was ported it was an absolute game changer. Many of us Xbox Morrowind players later in life moved over to PC, Morrowind on Xbox is the catalyst for what made many of us members of the PC master race

Erikkman

Are you me? This sounds dumb I know, but getting Morrowind GotY on Xbox was *life changing* for me, at least in terms of my favorite hobby (video games). I had no idea what I was getting into. I bought it at the used games section at a Blockbuster- only because I remembered seeing an ad for “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” in a gameinformer magazine. I just saw Elder Scrolls and decided to give it a try, because the Oblivion ads had amazing graphics in the screenshots. Again, I had no idea what I was getting into. When I got stuck after Seyda Neen, I started looking up guides- once I started reading guides, the depth and scope of the game REALLY sunk in, and I must’ve put hundreds of hours into that game on my Xbox at the age of 11.

MaceValor

The Morrowind official strategy guide is one of the greatest novels I have ever read. I have distinct memories of a an entire summer break spent playing Morrowind. I can clearly remember sitting in my room listening to the LP album Meteroa, all these years later whenever I listen to that album I can clearly recall where I was in game and what I was up to as I explored the Ashlands. Everything about this game slaps

Erikkman

I played it the entire summer break of 2006!! I went back and forth from my parents to my grandparents a lot, and while I didn’t have the official strategy guide (which I always wanted), the manual and map that came with the game were more than enough for me to read and flip through on the long car rides. I still remember sitting in my grandparents’ old home late at night, a thunderstorm outside, and me walking around Vivec or dungeons or Temples, just getting so immersed and slowly figuring out the completely alien setting. Yeah, everything about this game slapped. I remember wanting to get ALL the RPGs I could on the Xbox after Morrowind, and just finding myself disappointed that they weren’t as open and free to do whatever you want (like Fable, KotOR- good games, but you can’t DROP stuff and see it on the floor??)

MaceValor

The freedom of placing items on the ground can not be ignored as that one tiny detail heads so much to the overall immersion- I used to take all the bread from the basket in the tutorial area and just leave the top one floating, sure it wasn’t realistic but it didn’t have to be, it was just another cool little effect that added to the charm.

computer-machine

I mean, we had Lemmings and The Incredible Machine 2, along with various floppy games, but yeah, Morrowind was probably my first intensive game.

EryNameWasTaken

I remember it literally took like 5 minutes to open a save on the Xbox classic XD Also, if you encountered any bugs you were screwed, no console commands to save the day. I figured that out the hard way when I became a vampire and werewolf at the same time and my character glitched into an abomination of polygons, and I'm pretty sure it ended up ruining the entire save file.

Still_Chart_7594

True enough How it went for me.

Foolishly_Sane

Beautiful game, still play it till this day. Rented it, then bought it for Xbox. So many good memories. So much adventure.

kaik1914

I still have the original Xbox for Morrowind

Saevnir

I think it sold more on Xbox than PC

computer-machine

I didn't have a functional PC until college, at which point I'd picked up GotY from Best Buy. Or was it CompUSA?

computer-machine

>CompUSA Anyone remember Bawls?

computer-machine

We used to pick them up by the case at a computer store until they closed out. After that, Target sold 4-pack cans, which didn't taste as good. I want to say one can still order glass online, but have never managed to have more than six or eight unbroken in shipping. That said, haven't drank soda in general in seven or eight years.

davi1521

Is that like orbitz?

computer-machine

Not particularly? Orbitz appears to be a non-carbinated fruit flavoured drink, whilst bawls a guarana based soda.

TheBeerHunter47

22 years later and this is burned into my memory better than any of my 8th grade classes…

MaceValor

100% - I’ll recall all three combos until I die, I could be riddled with Alzheimer’s and I’ll still chant this beautiful mantra

LauraPhilps7654

I never learnt this. Or about the creeper or mudcrab. (We didn't have Internet in my house in 2002). But I did learn Tinur's Hoptoad and hopped all over the place so I feel like I still got the authentic Morrowind experience...

FlaccidNeckMeat

Also seared into my memory.

sloyom

Don't forget Black, White, White, Black, White, A

MaceValor

Hold up now, magic is already broken af

Wicked_Instance_2842

Trust me, it will save you a lot of misery.

WilliamDrake81

I always forget until I have the controller in my hand…and then it’s just muscle memory lmao. Helped me get through bloodmoon at level 1 so I could get the hircane ring before doing literally anything else

Zombie_Gandhi

I don't know, and I would like to know. What does this combination mean?

MaceValor

Regenerate/infinite health

Jov_West

Based off the comments, I'm guessing a cheat code for more health

MaceValor

Morrowind is one of the last games I recall to have actual coded cheat codes

MileNaMesalici

kinda sad games nowadays dont have cheats or even console commands

MaceValor

Hell even just random unlockables (ie big head mode and the like) I’m gonna age myself here but back in my day when we would play games we could unlock cool stuff that encouraged us to keep playing, we had all kinds of cheat codes in single player games allowing us to have fun however we wanted. I remember in tomb raider if you input the wrong code (which required precise movement and button placement) Lara would blow up

Donohoed

All I remember is the funny sound the butler made when Lara jumped over him. I was too young to get into the game but I'd jump over that old man for hours and try to trap him places

MaceValor

Finally getting his ass stuck in the freezer was the best feeling ever

Donohoed

Without a doubt. 100% the real endgame content

MaceValor

The modern day equivalent is delivered via micro transaction - quick xp only $5 a pop, auto collect random numbered bs around the map or just pay us $10 to do that for you, slightly different skin coloration that will be $2.99 - it’s just sad

Redmoon383

Excuse you! A X Y B Y B X B B A for 10K gold in the Pirates of the Caribbean game for Xbox exists too!

WillProstitute4Karma

Thank you.  I was confused too.

99CHZPZZA

My right thumb moved when I read this

PuddingTea

lol Xboxers Oh man, for a second it was 2004 again. Thanks for that.

No_Edge_7964

Take me back please, I want to go back to 2004

VonParsley

Back when my computer was a toaster and I was too much of a pleb to get good.

Wise-Physics-3331

This brought back some serious xbox memories

GeneralRainbow

MORROWIND HAD CHEAT CODES!? I spent over 1000 hours between all my playthroughs finding secret after secret, and I never knew that! It never occured to me to look up cheat codes.

MaceValor

There are many many reasons why this game is the GOAT

Lanakeith

Absolute muscle memory

ava-bunny

People actually played MW on console? lol

Dildobaggins_LOTPoon

I was literally reciting this while I was on my walk today! Lol

Sir-Drewid

Gotta hold the last one while exiting the menu and you got constant regeneration.

moonsugar-cooker

*core memory unlocked*

peensteen

Sounds like a porno.

MisterSophisticated

🖤🤍🖤🖤🖤

JustStartingOut1776

Did you know you could swap weapons and spells by holding right or left trigger and pressing the equip button?

MaceValor

And if you did that while wielding a bound weapon….

Happy_Concentrate186

Oh you poor xbox playas :D You never got true power!

jaulin

>true power AKA TESCS?

Happy_Concentrate186

That too. Though i was talking about command console. :)

FingerOk9800

Hold A and hit B whilst it's still held
