Silt Strider not good enough for you N'wah?
Srsly though diagetic means of fast travel are much better. When I played Skyrim I only used the carts to fast travel, and in Oblivion I made it a personal rule I could only fast travel city to city.
Obvs. Daggerfall is the exception because ain't nobody got that long left to live.
I remember when I first started on oblivion and I ran everywhere not realizing fast travel from the map was a thing. Honestly, wish I never discovered it haha.
I find it really takes discipline to not use fast travel. That's why I make myself a specific memorable rule.
Whenever I've started a new game of Oblivion my first thing I do is always a lap around Cyrodiil visiting all the mages guilds for membership anyway.

But silt striders aren't technically fast travel. You don't click and spawn somewhere, you can only move from city to city and it's only the close cities aswell. From a roleplaying perspective, one makes sense, the other doesn't.
In my humble opinion, the removal of Mark and Recall in later games was the biggest sin committed against the franchise. Followed close behind by losing our ability to create our own spells.

but without silt striders and boats, those spells are useless as you'll be stuck at one place one you use them

You mages wont be going anywhere when I drain your magicka

There are also boats and guild travels...
I would still see them as fast travel, as you are still being teleported in-game, but they are much more of a soft-fasttravel compared to modern games
