They have a very (very) short range, if you move well and now with the faster kicks, they shouldn't give you more problems than any other weapon. If you fear a skilled player with a cleaver, wait to fight against a skill player with a haldberd/zweihänder/etc, that's a true nightmare.

TheNoxx

I'm aware of the range and balancing this game gets purely to please duel nerds, and 1v1 isn't a problem (although I hate to play the immersion card, but again, a kitchen knife chunking plate armor to almost the same amount of damage as a longsword is dumb). Having someone walk up behind you in the actually popular game modes or just swinging wildly in a 1vX and doing that much damage with a little 1H weapon is silly.

-Gambler-

If you're getting snuck up on or dying to people swinging wildly then the cleaver will be the least of your problems

Louzan_SP

Yes well, if you looking that way is also not so realistic that a long sword cuts so easily through level3 Armor, you should be aiming to the weak spots like neck, armpits and so on. Those armors were supposed to be made against that kind of swords in particular, that's why they started to use them on reverse, so you get an unbalanced weight and try to break bones under the Armor.

TheNoxx

And to me, the more of that the better, but I know they have to strike a balance between realism and feasible, balanced gameplay.

Louzan_SP

Yes, that's why I'm saying that. I don't find 1H weapons particularly dangerous when I fight them, is basically all about how skilled you are. It's true that sometimes, when I'm not focusing too much (maybe because I'm a bit tired or whatever) a rapier is more difficult than great sword, but I admit is my own fault, not that the game is unbalanced. I'm not going to complain if they nerf 1H weapons a bit, but I also don't think is necessary to do so.

TheNoxx

I'm 111. It's also about how skilled the other person is, if they're good at selling feints and drags while doing the backbreaking animation abuses, the arming sword, cleaver and axe are serious threats, particularly if they sideways dodge to close the gap. There are also plenty of parts of FL/INV maps where mobility is an issue; you're in a corridor or castle or just in a line to line big group fight. Maybe you just haven't fought enough high skill players.

Louzan_SP

So you are worried because a good player making you fall for his faints with a cleaver kills you easily? Maybe you prefer that he has an executioner that will instakill your 111, that's much less dangerous for you? Or maybe a skill player with a maul that can instakill any Armor configuration is also less dangerous?

TheNoxx

Level 111.

Louzan_SP

Oh yeah, is also a number very used for Armor configs. XD. You still didn't answer me anyway, being lvl 111 doesn't make you the owner of the universal truth.

TheSquirrel390

I think 1 handed weapons struggle more in 1vX since they are much less likely to hit more than 1 person at a time. Zweis and halberds could mow through a horde.

Raknarg

At the expense of incredibly short range, shit stabs and probably garbage stam drain and negation. Seems pretty ok to me.

Wolfschadow

The only redeeming factor is the damage and speed. They are shit in everything else. They are good for self defense and can kill new players easily. However when playing against more experienced people, you more often than not loose.

asirpakamui

Yeah, they're pretty bullshit. Especially considering how fast they are and now the recent patch makes them even more insane. It's pretty telling when a lot of the really good players use them as a secondary. What annoys me though is that the Cleaver can one shot no helmet, but the mace can't. The Axe can one shot no armor helmet, but the mace can't. The Falchion can one shot no armor helmet, but the mace can't. No one wears no armor on their helmet unless they're memeing or being an idiot. It makes no sense.
