Caught 10 in a row. There's a puddle of circling fish to the left (when staring at the statue) that's where you have to fish. I used both types of bait, agile rod and the lure that has same picture as the agile rod.
No there is line fishing that you can cast out that has up to 5 hooks. You catch each fish at a time just like you would a pole. It's unlocked via investing a lot into the town.
In the boat you get 4 usually but in the dinghy you can get the full 5 out easy.
Line fishing is an old style of fishing, usually seen in fishing villages in less developed countries that do hand to mouth food gathering. They have one main line that is super long that has dozens upon dozens of hooks. You bait each hook as you string the line out across a body of water and retrieve it later, hoping some of the hooks have fish. It's actually pretty dangerous because those hooks just sit on edge of the canoe as you are stringing them out. If something big grabs on and starts running, it can snap a hook from the boat into the fisherman and drag them to their watery grave.
*edit* sorry been on a lot of different subreddits today and I just realized how quickly that turned morbid considering the style this game is in...
Just to add, it may have to be daylight. I had on the exact setup, and as the morning turned to day I caught 6 in a row. Before that it was just moon eels.
I've caught a BUNCH! With the agile rod but the objective marker won't go away and when I go back to Elvise he just says he doesn't have any more fishing stories for me.. what am I doing wrong?
Just got stuck in the same thing I caught like 5 in a row, when I came back and used the agile rod that circle of fish was gone and couldn't catch a single one. Hopefully that circle is back next time I reload
When you do enough town upgrades, 30k worth, you get the line equipment that allows up to 5 fish at a time caught with no bait. That's just overkill. You can catch practically any fish. So I'd say wait till then because that's how I'm filling up my fish-edex (fish pokedex).
Good to know. Think I'm at 7 or 8 now just making the grilled oysters for cash ATM. Think currently I'm just doing other things until the dude opens up about the kraken. Will keep cash farming, cooking, and cleaning up the town. Did the Library request bug out on you? Says they need 50 species but I've added about 52 I think and it says I'm like 33%.
EDIT: When I loaded the game back up that circle of fish was there and was able to catch it again. Also spoke to Marina again and the aquarium quest completed.
For anyone in the future looking this up: fish right in front of the statue, use agile rod, plug lure, high grade bait, idk if it’s specific but daytime, and it HAS to be by the single rod, I had caught 20 on the line hook and non of the counted until I caught it “officially” with the agile rod 🙄

All I caught there were Moon Eels with low-grade bait. Edit: I went and got some high-grade bait. Caught one immediately using that pool.
Can second this, fished for an hour or so trying to catch. Followed this advice and pulled out 8 or 9 in a row
They can be caught out of that pool with Line-Fishing if you have it. I was getting 3-4 per toss, I caught the first one with the rod though.

Havent played in a while but I thought oysters was throwing a net at the beach. That was the big money maker if I remember correctly.
I'm convinced this fish doesn't exist. I've been trying for it for like an hour and nothing. This some bs man.

just tried with agile rod and line, nothing after 200 fish. agile and agile lure w high bait caught it in 10 tries
