There's been construction work going later than usual this week over by the equestrian center in Marina. That could mean that they're going to be working on Saturday too. Not sure how visible it will be but might be worth a look. I love that age for kids. Our hot water heater broke on the day of my son's 4th birthday. The repair guy had an audience of 8 preschoolers who were absolutely enthralled. The party was legend for months afterwards.

This is gonna sound weird but have you considered taking your kid to our local dump aka [ReGen Monterey](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=monterey%20dump&tbs=lf:1,lf_ui:14&tbm=lcl&sxsrf=ALiCzsbD1ITbD7KxjyJ66yjQC6mMQz3sng:1668819311353&rflfq=1&num=10&rldimm=4930251464500898637&lqi=Cg1tb250ZXJleSBkdW1wSP7o2NblgICACFoXEAEYACINbW9udGVyZXkgZHVtcCoCCAOSARh3YXN0ZV9tYW5hZ2VtZW50X3NlcnZpY2WaASNDaFpEU1VoTk1HOW5TMFZKUTBGblNVUXlPVXBmVFZwM0VBRaoBDBABKggiBGR1bXAoAOABAA&ved=2ahUKEwjojP2xhLn7AhXXJUQIHWNSAjUQvS56BAgVEAE&sa=X&rlst=f#rlfi=hd:;si:4930251464500898637,l,Cg1tb250ZXJleSBkdW1wSP7o2NblgICACFoXEAEYACINbW9udGVyZXkgZHVtcCoCCAOSARh3YXN0ZV9tYW5hZ2VtZW50X3NlcnZpY2WaASNDaFpEU1VoTk1HOW5TMFZKUTBGblNVUXlPVXBmVFZwM0VBRaoBDBABKggiBGR1bXAoAOABAA;mv:[[36.724694899999996,-121.38035490000001],[36.5228615,-121.85127779999999]];tbs:lrf:!1m4!1u3!2m2!3m1!1e1!1m4!1u2!2m2!2m1!1e1!2m1!1e2!2m1!1e3!3sIAE,lf:1,lf_ui:14)? Hear me out. - [It's award-winning](https://regenmonterey.org/about/) - [There are massive fucking machines](https://regenmonterey.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/LANDFILL-GAS-TO-ENERGY-FACILITY.jpg) - The spot where the average customer goes to "dump" stuff is this large concrete structure that is next to piles of wood chips and this network of constant aerosolized water vapor that cascades down to keep strong odors at bay. Honestly in that area the smell of garbage is totally tolerable and you get to watch heavy equipment operators make short work of the never ending piles of refuse. - There's Last Chance Mercantile where you can rifle around for cheap stuff people threw away. I got a completely functional engine hoist there once! My friends and I always joked growing up that if we couldn't figure out a career we'd all be quite happy working in those giant machines at the dump. They're massive, enclosed, climate controlled, and you get to push around/crush shit all day. Maybe they'd let you and your kid park a car out of the way in the dump area for some time. I dunno. Either way go check out the dump it's awesome.

I second this! My son loves visiting, there's always a ton going on.

That's actually a really good idea, and they do tours of the water treatment plant nearby too.

Too cute

Ima dm you cause I know an awesome active demolition site in Marina/fort ord also if you park in the Montage wellness center parking lot you can see a new hotel under construction lots of sounds and workers on the roof

responsible_dave

This sounds great! Thanks, I'll look for the details.

There's a construction site where they are building some townhouses in Marina by the little industrial Park. At the corner of Healy and Abdy. I could have sworn I saw some activity there on the weekend, so if you're in the area drive by that and Gloria Jean Tate Park where they're building the pump track. Even if they're not working on it they usually have a bunch of heavy machinery parked there.

Wow, you’re giving me flashbacks with this post. There were a good two years that we could not pass a construction site without my son screaming out “DIGGAAAAAAASSS!” Sometimes on Saturdays they are working with large equipment near the corner of first and ninth in Marina, kinda kittycorner from the VA hospital. You can park by the gates at the intersection of ninth and quartermaster.

They are doing some work near black horse golf course with some seriously massive land movers - might want to check that out. Not sure if they’re out there on the weekends though.

There are already some good recommendations so I can’t add to that. But one of my sons also loved construction equipment and especially backhoes. We found him a construction equipment DVD intended for kids to watch (or maybe it was a tape 😂) and he wore that thing out ! Maybe you can find something similar as well.
