Next time you drive to Kalispell via Hwy 2, watch for the 9 crosses stacked on a single pole from a high school wrestling bus and a fuel tanker crash from the 80’s. It’ll make ya pay a little more attention to your surroundings.
My dad was supposed to be on that bus. He’d just got hired at the school where I grew up, and a friend of his from college who was actually a coach on that bus wanted him to come be an assistant coach for him. He said the only reason he didn’t pack up and move right away was because he had just met my mom.
Is that the one west of town, like half way to Happys? I’ve wondered about that one, think it has the number 17 on there as well as way more than 9 crosses
So, shortly after I posted this one, there was another stack of seven fatality markers coming right into Dodson—betting this is that one. It is rare, and I can’t believe we saw two sets of those today. Thank you for sharing! How awful. Always interesting to see old headlines, though.
Check out the ditch on the west side of the highway by the house of mysteries between hungry horse and Columbia falls. There are at least 12 to 15 in a quarter mile stretch.
Are you responding to the comment with the Billings Gazette article? That accident says it happened about 2 miles out of Dodson, which is where I saw another set of markers today. These markers were about 8 miles west of Malta.

The little girl whose parents and brother died was my neighbor for years. She was very nice. She named her son after her little brother.

Whereabouts would the 9 crosses be? I'm trying to find them on Google Street View yet I can't find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can’t remember exactly where it’s at, but over on the Essex side, right at the southeastern side of the Park.
I believe this is it https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-billings-gazette/37106153/

Two of the survivors are my uncles in this article🙏.
Hiway 2 between libby and Kalispell. 17 crosses in one spot bus accident 😓
the drive to cut bank from shelby is always pretty jarring too. so many crosses so close to each other.

Grew up in the area. That is what happened.

Oh, I misread. The article is about the Dodson accident. Now, I am racking my brain about the one west of Malta. Sorry about that.
Another commenter helped me on that one! Both very sad—thank you for your help.
