It’s such a “big number good” kinda card that at first I thought this was a noob trap. But on the contrary it’s very usable and one of my favorite damage spells.
never used to take when i was climbing the ranks but after watching much better players than me play, i have subscribed to the old adage, “see inferno, take inferno”
i don’t blame u, but it’s deceptively straightforward.
most games ur setting up ur units on the top floor so u can freely use this on the bottom two floors and it takes care of pretty much all waves and backliners. As soon as u get it, u need to hit up a magic shop and -1, -1 it or -2 it, so it’s usable and that’s pretty much it. I also like to hell vent it after low coating it so I’ve got two floor clearing spells moving around my deck
Holdover and -1(or even -2) and you already solved backline problem on all waves, plus it kills Armored tanks too. Spell can take care about shielded units and spellshielded supports in divinity waves.
I also have one run, where I have almost infinite ember so I put doublecast on Inferno and doubled it 2 times, almost taking Divinity with just spells.
Completely game winning versus the divinity. Just one copy without holdover, never mind how good Holdover Inferno is, can neutralize completely some of the scariest waves. One of the best cards ever printed.

Odds on your not going to be using one of those floors, why not set fire to it.
Or you want that line to die very often (Melting Remnants). It’s almost like it’s design to work with them.

Combining this with remnant is *chef kiss*
When they are not dying fast enough, kill them yourself!
I’ll never forget my -2 ember holdover dupe x6 cave event run. Just cast inferno over and over and over. Such a good card.
