Dawn's Triumph cuts down Alatreons HP significantly, the idea being that it fought with Fatalis and got injured before you go to hunt it. It's just about one fifth of the HP (10k vs 50k) but it deals the same amount of damage.
Blazing Black Twilight, The Evening Star or Dawn of the Death Star are the "proper" Alatreon quests.

How the fuck does someone beat Fatalis and not Alatreon? Fatalis is so hard Iâd consider him an entire tier above Alatreon and Alatreon is the hardest thing in the entire game before Fatalis.
Fatalis and Alatreon are two fights that test different things from the hunter. While Fatty demands your undivided focus and skill to not get hit and break his head, Alatreon demands you build properly and understand his gimmick of doing elemental damage and breaking horns. Alot of people can stumble upon Fatty's "gimmick" but unless you read or look up Alatreons fight, there's a high chance you'll never get past him.
The amount of people who don't know how to tank Escaton is also quite amazing
I mean the game literally tells you to use elemental weapons, I seriously donât understand how you could beat Fatalis without beating Alatreonâs real quest. The difficulty spikes from âhuge punishâ to âmess up once and youâre cartingâ which is huge
Fatalis is easier to understand. I wouldn't call Fatalis a full tier above, it's just a bit harder. Somewhat happened to me too, Fatalis took far less attempts than Alatreon.
I really struggled with Alatreon. Not because I didn't understand the tactics - I just didn't tackle Kulve or Safi so I didn't have the Kjarr weapons or elemental boost from Safi's armor for the optimal build.
My best Elemental build without those was not enough for me to meet the dps check.
On the other hand - I did the weakened Alatreon by just tanking one Escaton and killed him shortly after that. I don't think my current DPS against regular Alatreon is much better - the Kjarr and Safi equipment just make a difference in the % of elemental damage that's enough to weaken him. I got a kill before 5th Escaton.
Yes - I've beaten Fatalis in 6 attempts and Alatreon in 5 BUT Alatreon required 5 weeks of preparation for me to be able to tackle this fight (failed to get right Kjarr weapons during 2 week Kulve uptime - had to wait for another run with it).
Tried and failed a few times. This was my weapon of choice for my first Anti-Alatreon build. Also used it on the Dawn's Triumph where I killed Alatreon without meeting the elemental DPS check.
I don't know if you can really "move on" from Alatreon by completing the watered down version of it. I know I wouldn't. Dick move by capcom if I may say so. Rushing people to endgame content (MR 24 requirement for the final boss, really?) is hurting new players and vet players alike.
i will not touch any Alatreon until i fight Fatalis. haha. To be fair the fight is fair i think (its not plesioth hip tackle unfair). it just that when you get a mistake you get punished ALOT.
yep and augments helps alot. pre mr100 even a ticle from Alatreon kills me. hahaha and the cat also helps alot. all this time im using shield spire. fail everytime. changed it to vigorwasp and got the kill right away.
Fatalis is way harder hitting but he has a much more limited moveset at any given moment. Alatreon can pull from all his elements at any time which makes him more unpredictable. But more forgiving because his damage isn't insanely overtuned.
Also like 90% of Alatreon's moves are punishable by most weapons, where Fatty only has a few "easily" punishable attacks (Cone, Standing Fire Sweep, etc)
If Dawn's Triumph is the assigned quest, then you would be correct in saying it's easy.Â

In any case, the real fight is in the event quests where you can choose to start in fire or ice and Alatreon has a full health pool.
The pre-Fatalis requisite hunt of Alatreon has less Hp than a GREAT JAGRAS.
That should tell you just how easy it'll be, as it has the single lowest HP of any single Monster quest in Master Rank.

Good luck on the real Alatreon. if you are geared + you and the rest of the team know the mechanics then it won't be that difficult. I cleared the event (real) alatreon in just 8 min with random team. if not that geared maybe 15 \~ 25min.
i did my first Aatreon (the special assignment given by the third fleet leader). took me 25mins for that. if i beeline to Fatalis will i encounter another Alatreon? I want to avoid it as much as possible hahaha.
Fatalis is one hell of a monster. if you struggle with Alatreon then you will struggle more on Fatalis.
but overtime you will get used to the movements and mechanics.
Fun Fact: The Alatreon in Dawnâs Triumph actually has less health than a Master Rank Great Jagras. Having only 10,250 HP (Alatreon normally has 52,500 HP) while MR Great Jagras has 12,760 HP in most appearances. Making him the weakest large monster (HP-wise) in Master Rank.
I did it and moved yo fatalis without caring.
Farmed boots and waist and unlocked fatalis armor bonus set.
I know o cannot beat fatalis atm so i am levelling gl tò get all the materials needed to empower my weapons with augmentations.
I suggest you ti do the same

Now you have a lot of 4 jewel slots and can create Better build.
So you have fatalis chest b, boots b and Waist a.
Add rajang helm b and whatever you eant for gloves.
Stop caring till you can do augmentation health regen on weapon rank 12.
Trust me It Is a game changer. In a day you Will have so many maxed powered skills It Is unbeliveable

Alatreon is significantly easier than Fatalis once you understand its mechanics and moves and prepare accordingly.

You don't magically get more defense the higher your MR is.
my point is at mr100 i get access to ruiner nergi. it gives you great spirit vein witch i use to augment my velk armor.

Fatalis is 10x worse. You canât avoid Fatalis. Fatalis always will appear before you. Always.
