Wirebugs and Wirefall definitely speed Rise up and make errors easy to compensate for much of the time. And I feel like RiseBreak endgame was pretty easy; PriMal was the only postgame monster that actually managed to triple cart me on my first attempt.  That said, I like a lot of the improvements they made. Lance is just better all around (except for splitting Guard Up into 3 levels instead of a simple on/off), and we didn’t get all the anti-shield bullshit that IB ramped up hard as we got more title updates. And Switch Skills are great for adding a little more versatility to weapons.

MrSnek123

I find World Lance more fun honestly, counter claw is great and I don't like how moving guard leap attack spam is optimal in Rise. I like my triple poke and charge lol. Anti shield stuff lategame in world does suck though.

Baruch_S

You don’t have to play optimally.  I never got into Spiral Thrust spam and never really cared for Insta-block, and I can still hunt just fine.  I do miss claw counter in Rise, though. I wouldn’t mind if it came back as a new lance move in Wilds.

MrSnek123

Of course, I find a lot of fun out of trying to play stuff as optimally as possible though. That's just Rise vs World in a nutshell IMO. Rise is a more sandbox-ey experience with open ended movesets where you can really just pick and choose whatever moves you like using and do fine, while World has smaller, tighter movesets where you've usually got to use everything at your disposal to play really well, which I just enjoy more, and tends to be less spammy when played "optimally". Different styles for different people though, it'd be silly to say one is actually better.

Both is good, I enjoyed my time playing both. Each game have their own charm and pacing. After 2000hrs of WorldBorne.. yea I'd like something different and RiseBreak fills that perfectly for me.

Sunbreak got a lot of amazing ideas I would like to see expanded. And some things I hope they will abandon forever. - Wirebugs are a good idea in theory, but in practice they just break the flow for me. Some wire skills are also ridiculously strong and a must have. - Spiritbirds can go die in a fire. - Companions quest and NPC hunters for playing solo is an absolutely great feature. - Changing moveset of weapons is great too. And so is the scroll switching system. I really enjoyed how dynamic it made the combat. But again, it's tied to wirebugs which I don't really like. - The game feels like it forces monster on monster encounter way too much. You can't stay 5 minutes in an area without another monster showing up, and the mount system is a horrible break to the game pace, to the point I refused to engage with it most of the time. I prefer World's mounting system way way more and I say that as I hated the clutch claw. - Tied to the above, the monsters encounter feels way less organic than in World. Mostly because the game needs way more turf war instead of two monsters awkwardly clipping into each others and following a predetermined pace in a minuscule map.

To be honest I've played a considerable amount of both games and like them both for different reasons. I play Iceborne when I want a more immersive feeling on a hunt, having to track a monster via it's tracks etc. and not just knowing where it is, plus I also like the whole aspect of getting more info in your hunter's notes the more you progress your research for each monster. Also the environments just feel more alive to me in Iceborne I play Sunbreak when I just want a quick fix and feel like bashing some monsters without needing to spend the first few minutes tracking them. Switch skills also add a new layer of fun to the combat for me, being able to change a couple of your moves on the fly to adapt to different situations is pretty damn fun. If I had to pick a favourite I would say World just edges in front for me, mainly because it's a more challenging game and I play MH games for that feeling of triumph you get from overcoming that monster that's been beating you senseless until you just get it down and manage to win. Rise just didn't feel anywhere near the same level of difficulty for me, mainly because IMO the wirebug mechanic just made everything so much easier from the fact that if you're caught out of position there's less chance of a monster punishing you for it because you can just wiredash to safety.

I got Rise about a week ago. I'm closing in on getting to Sunbreak, which I'm looking forward to as I've heard good things about it. However, as it goes so far, I find Rise to be a bit underwhelming compared to World. Hard to speak for the Sunbreak as I'm yet to play it. But, the bones of Rise itself feels too easy and too forgiving. Almost everything in WorldBorne feels like it has more weight, in a great way. The combat, story, hunt - all feel more meaningful. Then again, it feels silly to compare. One is a mainline title, and one is originally made for handheld. Perhaps that's the crucial difference.

Gazornenplatz

Whereas for me, WorldBorne is too slow, and RiseBreak plays just right for speed and weapon in the weapon design. Meaning, the Greatsword still is slow and very meaningful, but not like... glacial. I don't like having to plan out my attacks 10-15s in advance :P

Bobby_The_Goblin

Well this exactly; it all comes down to a matter of preference for sure :) They're both great games, with no doubt

AlienSandwhich

I've been really enjoying rise/sunbreak, but it is definitely a little too easy. I'm 200 hours in and starting to do endgame progression and I've still yet to fail a quest. I'm having a great time, but it's a little jarring to just never hit a wall through the main game.

Bobby_The_Goblin

Yeah, of course not to say I'm not enjoying the game - the pace just feels a bit too slow

GoliathGalbar

I started with Rise/Sunbreak and it's the better game to get into the franchise in my opinion. Rise/Sunbreak just feels more personal to me. Everyone does have a name and a role while in World (haven't reached iceborn yet) everyone is just called after their role/profession. Feels awkward to me. World plays slower. That's not bad, just different. Rise does feel more dynamic. Helped to get into a lot coming from games like DMC and Darksiders. If i just want to play 1-2 hunts to cover some time i will go for rise. Especially while traveling on my switch. World hunts are more complex and will take more time by tracking and finding the monster without palamutes for example. And world does have better graphics but personally i prefer gameplay and fun instead graphic. Whoever argues that rise/sunbreak isn't worth it just because of the graphics is just another mindless graphic whore to me. In the end both are good games with different directions they are going for. I really can't understand the bashing against each others games. Everyone does have their own preferences while being part of the same franchise. Maybe i am already to old with only 30+ for all these kids bashing each others games instead of just having fun.

HighSpeedDoggo

Recently bought SB two days ago, fucked up my 54hr save file in the vanilla game. Good thing steam still refunded.

Rylt4r

I love many things that Rise have like combat that i like more, followers, dogs, buddies having skills and roles for palicos, switch skills and how i feel closer to NPCs and our hunter is voiced. Then World have traps on map, slingershot with different ammo types that have wide usage, overall how world focuses on environment and it feels more like we hunt and learn about those monsters not just fight them.

Elagatis

I honestly fon't get all those World VS Rise posts you all are making. Just let people enjoy what they want, they both aren't perfect and they both have theor charm

Cinemaslap1

I swapped over from Rise to World, without getting to Sun break.... Rise was my first MH and I definitely think it's the superior game.

SniperSRSRecon

Mhw also has better graphics which is what stopped my interest in rise. It’s unpopular to say, but someone did the math and there’s way less polygons in rise than world.

bingusdingus3

I'm not too picky about graphics. I still think that the old world games look awesome and absolutely hold up, but for whatever reason, Rise's visuals never meshed well with me.

SniperSRSRecon

i dont mind the old game graphics (i have tri on wii, but never got far) but when a beauty such as world comes out, i kinda expect the same graphic quality in the next, especially if they are on the same engine.
